  1. Matt Szczur 0/2 but with 3 BBs and 0 Ks. Pretty impressive plate discipline, despite no hits.
  2. Baez had himself a game. 3/4 with a HR, BB, and a SB. The other 2 hits were singles.
  3. Man, does Shark work painfully slow out there. Brutal to watch.
  4. Baseball America came out with its revised top 50 list today, with Baez checking in at #25. Full list: http://ht.ly/c2dm2
  5. The Braves signed Ben Sheets and seriously plan to start him within the next 2 weeks. Against major league hitters. We've read about the Braves' interest in Garza and/or Dempster before. We really need to turn the screws on those guys and see if we can coax a few horses from their stable of SP prospects. I'm optimistic that Jed/Theo will be able to use the Phillies' ridiculous (but not unsupported) asking price for Hamels as a means of persuading teams that Garza is a "better" deal; i.e., why give the Phillies 4-5 of your best prospects for Hamels when you can just give us 2-3 really good prospects and get a guy who's cheaper and not that much worse.
  6. 102 seems a little high for sure. But to add my $0.02, I saw Cash hit 101 on the stadium gun at Citi Field when the Cubs visited the Mets last September. Again, stadium guns have a way of being...not accurate, but I have little to no doubt that Cash can hit triple digits if he wants to.
  7. Lolz: Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN Source: As of early afternoon today, Carlos Lee continues to tell the Astros he won't waive his no-trade clause.
  8. Trade is apparently fully agreed-upon and the clubs are now just awaiting Carlos Lee's sign-off.
  9. Cashner no-hitting the Stros through 4 innings.
  10. Seems fairly obvious that Shark is struggling turning over a major league lineup. That could be due to a number of things, all of which are the typical reasons why some pitchers are relievers and not starters: no third pitch, little deception in delivery, lack of movement on secondary pitches, poor pitch selection (i.e., not varying up how you attack hitters the 2nd and 3rd time through vis-a-vis the 1st time), and poor stamina. Long story short, there is a reason why bullpen pitchers aren't starters. (Unless you're Aroldis Chapman and your manager is simply a complete idiot.) At this point, I just hope Shark's issues are with stamina and concentration and not "stuff"-related.
  11. The Yankees have decent prospects in their system worth trading for, like Gary Sanchez, Dante Bichette Jr., and Mason Williams. They just happen not to be pitchers.
  12. Well we don't take walks, but we sure can dole 'em out. So there's that.
  13. How the f___ do you walk the pitcher in that situation.
  14. I'd be shocked if the Cubs could get both Turner AND Porcello from the Tigers for Garza.
  15. Thanks for linking. He has such a quick, easy swing. Still holding out hope that he can be a league-average offensive player at 3B in a year or two.
  16. These sound about right to me. I see something in the .270/.355/.480 range, myself. (This is all completely arbitrary and baseless, of course.)
  17. So is this the thread where we all post our expected slash line for Rizzo so that we can pull up said thread in October and make fun of the people who were far too optimistic / bullish on the kind of numbers he's going to put up in half a season coming from the PCL? I need guidance here, guys.
  18. Really? Yup. DeJesus and Castro each went 4/5, and neither scored a single run.
  19. this is mostly baseless speculation, right? Is it? Theo's kind of said we won't be spending on major free agents until we have enough pieces around them and has said he knew this would take a while to fix the right way. I guess it's me speculating, but I also kind of think the writing's on the wall somewhat. Sveum also said something along the lines of he knows that we have a lot of holes to fill, and ,most can't be filled from within and something along the lines of evaluating the free agents to be. I don't expect a Hendry-esque off season, but at the right price I could certainly see them in on guys like Upton, Ethier, McCarthy, and Sanchez at the right price. Hopefully Hamels as well, though I expect the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers to be all over him as well. And yes, I think that Jackson and Vitters both could be building blocks, but not corner stones. Ethier just signed an $85 million extension.
  20. Nothing seals a trade like throwing in veterans that not even a 24-46 team thinks are any good.
  21. Probably about 10 points low I'd wager lol probably more than that. i mean, people give guys like campana and trout 80 scores in speed. which is justified because they're faster than like 99% of baseball players. hamilton needs his own score. Agreed. If Hamilton isn't an 80 runner, then no one is an 80 in anything.
  22. Hate to throw the proverbial wet blanket on a ridiculous performance, but I just noticed both of these: keithlaw ‏@keithlaw It happens. Not a guy, though. “@davidrelliott: @keithlaw you got anything on Frank del Valle? 6 perfect, 11K's tonight somehow......” Kevin Goldstein ‏@Kevin_Goldstein not a big prospect. “@OffAirOnPoint: @Kevin_Goldstein Frank Del Valle having good night for Daytona, what u know about him?”
