  1. simple, you shoot the hostage.
  2. On facebook, the article the Cubs posted about Theriot's arbitration mostly got a lot of comments such as "Theriot IS our team. GIVE HIM THE MONEY!" and "He's one of the BEST SS's in baseball... I see this being ANOTHER DeRosa deal. Get with it, Hendry!" It made me VERY embarrassed to be a Cubs fan.
  3. you are really lazy if you couldn't bother to find the 2nd bulletpoint on the site that links to: http://koreabaseball.blogspot.com/2010/02/cubs-ink-another-korean-prospect.html that's how I roll. thanks.
  4. When is his arbitration hearing? I keep seeing a bunch of other hearings and didn't know how long this usually took.
  5. is there a link to the article? I'm too lazy to hunt around mlbtraderumors.com...
  6. Which doesn't mean much...
  7. Technically they already need to. touche´
  8. also, they're going to need to rewrite the lyrics to Go Cubs Go.
  9. Finally, the Cubs are coming around. Time to start giving the low middle class people the shaft! wait. that's me. crap. There's no way on earth I could afford the EI package, let alone me getting my wife to say OK on that (plus, I just have standard cable, and I don't think there are any options available for me on that).
  10. I enjoyed what Adolphus A Busch IV had to say about it: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0122-rogers-mark-mcgwire--20100121,0,1973932.column
  11. I think it is more he knows it might take most of the first year to get back to what he was thus he wants a guaranteed second year. or there's that... either way, he doesn't think he's healthy
  12. My concern with Sheets is the fact that he's demanding 2 years at 10-12 per year. That tells me he doesn't think he can pitch more than 1 year and wants to get as much money as possible NOW instead of trying to "earn" it by proving he is healthy. If he honestly thought he could pitch successfully for more than 1 year, he'd take a 1 year incentive laden deal and prove he can be effective AND healthy and score a bigger contract next year.
  13. RIP, T&Ps with Angel and his family If I were a professional athlete from Columbia/Venezuela, the first thing I would do when I had the means is move my family out. That area is just out of control. Yeah, I don't get why anyone with money wouldn't do that. You KNOW your family will have a bounty on them once you start making any kind of money...
  14. Great lineup. Still wondering if they are really gonna roll Martinez out there at C everyday. I guess when you have the money, you just sign the player no matter what. Man, baseball needs a cap. He'll probably DH when they face a lefty, but I imagine Youkilis gets the vast majority of starts at 1B... and if he has to fill in at 3B to cover a Beltre injury, you're probably looking at Kotchman getting the start more often than not. And I think you'd be shocked if you saw how little the Red Sox were actually paying. I know their payroll was actually lower than the Cubs last year at least. So they're going to platoon Ortiz? I was predicting a semi-platoon based on the idea of keeping Ortiz's knees healthy... but yeah, he hasn't really hit lefties for a few years and should probably be platooned at this point. I'm flabbergasted at the thought of needing to "semi-platoon" a DH so that you can keep his knees healthy. He only plays half a game each day! Not saying you're incorrect, just the thought is astounding.

  16. I really like the 1908 Logo/Uniforms... I'd like to see an updated version http://static.squidoo.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/draft_lens4592272module34715132photo_124278984808uniform.gif or the 1911 uni's: http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/images/nl_1911_chicago.gif
  17. Exactly. But, I am curious what the Red Sox would be giving up to get Gonzalez. Gonzalez is still cheap this year and next. The Padres still need a SS and Lowrie (even if he hasn't lived up to his early hype) fills that spot. Boston could pick up a little bit of Kotchman's contract along with sending Ellsbury. Looking at Boston's roster, you have to figure they aren't done making moves, even if they trade for Gonzalez. They have A LOT of veteran players without positions. DH- Ortiz C- Victor Martinez, Varitek 1b- Kotchman, Youkilis, Victor Martinez, (Gonzalez??) 2b- Pedroia SS- Scutaro, Lowrie 3b- Lowell, Youkilis OF- Hermida, Drew, Cameron, Ellsbury Even if they don't trade for Gonzalez, you still have to figure someone's gotta go. Didn't they just trade Lowell for another catcher (Max Ramirez)? Or has that not gone through yet? If it has, it moves Youkilis back to 3rd but you still have a logjam of Martinez/Kotchman/Possibly Gonzalez if they get him. Granted, that doesn't make it a logjam because obviously you start Gonzalez... but whats that going to do with Varitek/Martinez/Kotchman? At least it seems like the Yankees spend all their money on positions they don't have filled yet...
  18. Ellsbury got me a free taco. Do whatever it takes to get him to Chicago!
  19. The link you provided also shows that he's a 5-time gold-glover. But I think he's lost a step or two over the years.
  20. My big problem with the article is that he suggests moving to Florida would hinder the recruiting of new players. Seeings as though Roy Halliday has specifically said he doesn't want to get traded to a team who doesn't play in Florida... I would have to say that the move to Florida would not hinder recruiting of new players.
  21. I'd also like to note that it wasn't a sports radio station. It was either KSHE 95 or 105.7 the Point. I can't remember which. Also, the DJ was extremely unpleased that this was happening.
  22. I had just heard on a St. Louis radio station that Ankiel looked to be close to signing with the Cubs. I haven't seen ANYTHING online about this and wonder if they were just spouting off something they over heard from someone who heard someone else say that their cousin once said... I hope this is as untrue as they come.
  23. I think the suggestion was to trade Z to another team for prospects. Then turn around and trade those prospects (plus some) to Toronto for Halladay. And Zambrano would waive his no trade clause for what reason? he said he'd pitch for the white sox... who's to say he wouldn't want to pitch elsewhere too?
  24. any chance we could trade Zambrano for the parts to get Halladay? I'd much rather have Halladay as the ace over Zambrano, even if he is older.
  25. Now's our chance to finally get Dunn!
