  1. Looks like he's taking a 3 year deal with the Dodgers: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/10/report-dodgers-lilly-close-on-3-year-deal.html
  2. Fans of other teams argue which WS team was better. We're reduced to this. sad.
  3. That was my thought as well. I can't remember exactly which hit it was in the 1st quarter, but he looked a little dazed getting up and didn't look any better the rest of the half.
  4. Here are the rivalries that are bigger and more culturally relevant than the Bears/Packers (according to Joe): USC-UCLA?! Really?
  5. Assumed so, Rodgers was ridiculous. I forget how good Rodgers is until I watch him play. He's freaking good!
  6. I'm learning quickly that you can't argue with "stupid", but I'm giving it my best shot. I have a friend who is from Chicago, but hates all Chicago teams. He only roots for the "Best" of each sport, ie Yankees, Lakers, Duke, USC, etc. He is arguing that the Bears/Packers Rivalry is a joke of a rivalry and that they aren't even one of the biggest rivalry's in the NFC, let alone NFL and other major sports. I'll include my conversations with him so you get an idea of what I am going up against here:
  7. Oh man that is great. I really miss FJM. Especially when they dish on Joe Morgan, even though he's an easy target.
  8. MLBTradeRumors is reporting that Towers wants Maddux in Arizona with him as a bench or pitching coach. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/09/dbacks-notes-padres-maddux-towers.html
  9. Kind of my thoughts too...
  10. source? http://www.maplebatmakersofamerica.com That's a biased source! Of course they will skew their results to favor their product!
  11. I hadn't read anything about this... http://www.pantagraph.com/news/state-and-regional/illinois/article_a6458a84-c586-11df-bcd4-001cc4c03286.html
  12. There actually is an ash shortage in the states. The "emerald ash borer" has wreaked havoc on ash trees in Illinois (specifically an Ash farm in McLean County). If you see a purple bag hanging from a tree in the woods, they are checking for the emerald ash borer. Not quite sure how it works though.
  13. MLB is investigating why Castillo's bat broke. As if maple bats breaking is something new and unheard of.
  14. Lidge and Dotel both finished with 97k's in '03 (Wagner had 105). That was the last effective year the Astro's had from Dotel and Wagner, I think.
  15. Agreed! I can't stand listening to Cardinal TV. I don't really get 720am where I live either, so I can't just listen to the radio and watch the game.
  16. My apologies for attempting to interject some humor into the story.
  17. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/09/cubs-fire-sales-and-promotions-head.html Cubs fired Matt Wszolek because of "sagging attendance." And Jim Hendry still has a job.
  18. And, why don't we help them out by sending Soriano and his contract for Rasmus. Larussa gets the lead-off guy he desperately needs. :) Yeah, and then have Soriano go and hit .400 with 78hr and 144SB?!
  19. Brandon Phillips was SO far off from the truth!
  20. Unwritten rules are stupid in general. Should a team that is winning by a large margin stop playing competitively? My boss is a HS coach and someone asked if he was going to let up and he replied with, "Are you going to stop trying to catch up?" As long as their is another team in the same game with the same goal, you can't really let up. Sure you don't have to pour it on and risk injury, but you can't just coast.
  21. I love that he's wearing a "Rad" shirt.
  22. I have never understood why the Cubs pitching staff continually walks more batters than other teams. Is it a Rothschild thing? I understand that usually "power arms" will walk more batters, but seriously... throw a freaking strike once in a while. The past couple years, it's simply been a Marmol thing. Three more today, despite three strikeouts and a save. Not to derail the thread, but I feel like hitters are starting to "figure" Marmol out. They realize they aren't going to be able to make good contact against him, so they just stand there and take a walk after 7 or 8 pitches. Then Marmol inevitably loses it under the pressure and gives up a hit or two (or just walks more batters).
  23. What's lost in this is that the Nationals lost 16-10... they were down by 10 runs, but still made it a fairly close game. I never saw a rule in baseball (written or "unwritten") that says if you're losing you have to pack up and go home. Marlins need to suck it up and quit being a bunch of whiners.
