  1. well, they don't make any money from player salaries. it would have to be all ticket and merch/food sales.
  2. I have been complaining about this for a week now! "Gotta have a veteran catcher in there... don't want some rookie making rookie mistakes." SO it's ok if it's a veteran making rookie mistakes?
  3. What was the "On defensive indifference, Venable scored"???
  4. based on what? His straight as an arrow 99mph heater and his unhittable (read no where near the strike zone) off-speed pitches.
  5. Do we REALLY want Hendry going into the off-season thinking, "We need to spend more on the bullpen!"?
  6. To be fair to Denny, it was dark when he asked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Strike_(Seinfeld)
  7. I read on SI that the Mets are looking into the possibility of voiding his contract. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/baseball/mlb/08/16/mets.rodriguez/index.html
  8. Well, there goes that. If anybody's going to change their mind with the trade deadline looming, it's Colletti, though. He did trade Carlos Santana and a prospect for Casey Blake. You don't just let that good of a guitar player go for that little of a return. He should have at least gotten Richie Sambora along with Blake.
  9. I'm sure it's happened, but I can't find (or don't know how to search) for an instance of a pitcher and catcher having the same name (though possibly different spellings).
  10. It's probably a combination of that and the gunk pitchers keep on the bill of their cap.
  11. He got quite a bit of help from the ump later in the game.
  12. Nevermind, found the post where we signed him... he was clocked at 89mph. But that was when he was like 17 or 18.
  13. Between Lee and Castro, doesn't Lee have a stronger arm? I thought I remembered hearing (or reading) that he was throwing in the upper 90's. Would the stronger arm be better at the 5 or 6?
  14. I'm pretty sure it's Michael, and he just finished yelling, "WAAAAAAAAAALT! Where is my booooooy? I need my boy!"
  15. This pretty much sums up the Home Run Derby. Sure, there are some monster shots, but Berman acted as if every time the ball barely cleared the fence that it was a feat unseen by humans before. It got really annoying after about the 1st HR 15 years ago. Good catch.

  17. Saltalamacia is a head case right now who can't even get past his mental block to throw the ball back to the pitcher. Pass. Get him a Fredrick's of Hollywood catalog and he'll be fine.
  18. Really? Wrigley Field is the reason we haven't won since 1908? I find that extremely hard to believe. Good, because that's not what I'm talking about. I agree with him that Wrigley's facilities for the players, home and away, are crap, and I agree that the Cubs have a [expletive] schedule due to them playing too many day games. Am I saying that those are THE reasons they haven't won a WS in over a century? Of course not, but I think they are valid criticisms, and I think that they are factors, however relatively small, that have contributed to this being a crappy organization over the years. There are much, much, much bigger issues and problems that have sidetracked the Cubs, but that doesn't mean what Rolen brings up aren't also problems in and of themselves. I agree. I agree with this as well... but I would say that an organization that is properly run would take care of the facilities and improve them as time goes on. The fact that Wrigley didn't get lights until 1988 is just ridiculous.
  19. I think they are valid points. But what does Scott Rolen know. It's not like he actually plays baseball or anything like that. You simply can't discredit the day games and the horrible facilities. Sure, visitors have the same disadvantage, but they are only here for 3-4 games at a time. The Cubs have to play 81 games in subpar conditions. "Oh... but they make millions a year, they should suck it up." Easier said than done. Also, I'm sure it probably costs more to lure some of the bigger name free agents to play at Wrigley than if the Cubs had more reasonable facilities to play in.
  20. Maybe I don't know as much as I thought I knew about baseball, but they brought this guy up to save the bullpen arms and sent Stevens down... yet there were a few games he was up early on where we were being either beat soundly, or winning soundly and Piniella still put in Marmol and Marshall. If you're trying to save arms, why go with the most worked arms in those situations?
  21. not to interrupt the pissing contest about juan pierre, but it looks like Pinto has signed with St. Louis. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/06/cardinals-sign-renyel-pinto.html
  22. nevermind, it just seems like FireFox is the culprit... works in Chrome.
  23. is slamtracker broken for anyone else?
