  1. But how many of our picks actually turn into something? How many of the top picks? At the very least, any 1st/2nd round pick should hold trade value in the first couple years of their professional career. Even if they never become big leaguers, they can be assets. The key is not offering them no-trade clauses. How many of our recent 1st/2nd rounders have we given no-trade clauses to? I know Samardzija, but outside of him, I don't know.

  3. I was thinking the same thing myself. I thought the usual sign is a drop in velocity and he was hitting 94 last night. I wonder if his shoulder is giving him trouble. Loss of velocity points to shoulder problems, loss of control points to elbow. But he has perfect Mark Prior-like mechanics!
  4. The Duke. He once threw at his own son in a father/son game.
  5. what was the deal with valverde doing his stupid celebration after "closing" out a 5 run lead? I could ALMOST understand that if he actually got a save... And also, Soriano's celebration was after a game winning grand slam. If you ask me... THAT's when you SHOULD be "over" celebrating.
  6. Yeah, he needs to get ahead of more hitters.
  7. speed slumps if it's not getting on base.
  8. It was a few years ago, when Rich Hill was first called up (if my memory serves me correctly), and he was on the bases. I can't remember who got a hit, but when Rich was rounding 3rd, he fell down. The noises that came from Ron were terrific.
  9. Silly, it's because he's not white.
  10. no that's true. michael jackson was both black and then white in the same lifetime. mlk never did that. props mj for bringing 2 races together (in your own body) Madonna did that much more often. ftw.
  11. RHB against in his career: .236/.327/.343/.670 LHB against in his career: .179/.285/.273/.558 What's wrong with using him as a loogy? I was mostly taking a jab at Lou's use of Marshall; obviously, I didn't bother to look at Ryan's splits. And the difference in Ryan's numbers don't scream "use only vs. lefties"; not enough of a differential, IMO.-- Carlos Marmol career according to http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/player_splits?player_id=7789: vs righties: .172/.293/.273/.566 vs lefties: .204/.332/.407/.739 I'd say there's just as much of an argument that Marmol should only face righties as saying that Ryan should be a a loogy....and I don't see many people saying that. At this point, I cringe when I see Marmol facing anybody. Hopefully he gets that release point figured out over the break.
  12. plus, IF the game went into extras, Lou made LaRussa burn a bench guy. They only had one other left. I know you don't play to tie, but it would have made things a little interesting.
  13. When I broke up with a crazy girl that I had dated for almost 2 years in High School, it took me a while because I had so much stuff at her house... I would take things home little by little so she wouldn't suspect anything. Then when she caught on, I just had to gather what was most valuable and run for the hills. Perhaps he still had a lot of crap that he wanted back.
  14. wouldn't it be kind of funny if they ended up trading braun for some pitching like Halladay?
  15. Looks like McNair (puts sunglasses on) traded a gold digger........for a grave digger. YEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! FTW +1
  16. Maybe he was trying to break it off? He should have listened to the great George Bluth (Sr) ... "You NEVER fire crazy!"
  17. If there's one thing I've learned... it's to ignore how good ANY Cubs lineup/rotation looks "on paper."
  18. My friend is a police officer in Nashville and told me about this a few hours ago... i was hoping he was joking.
  19. Maybe then deal Z for a hitter? I mean, we'll need to fulfill that "leadoff position" with Soriano gone...
  20. Yeah, but there's someone on his team making just as big of a butt of himself after each strikeout...
  21. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/sns-ap-bbo-k-rod-bruney-spat,0,2783857.story Brian Bruney calls k-rod's celebration a "tired act". I don't see how anyone who is a teammate of Joba can call someone's celebration a "tired act" and keep a straight face. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere.
