  1. just look at that lack of hustle!
  2. now, if that fan had just brought his glove to the game, he'd be uninjured with a free souvenir!
  3. that rookie team would be a formidable club! though I don't know why Gallagher was left off the starting rotation...
  4. Sorry, I just assumed everyone read the sportspickle...
  5. He did it better (for one night) then A-Ram. Not since Santo has there been a 2 HR 6 RBI night by a Cubs 3rd basemen. Correct me if I am wrong. Aramis had a 2 HR 6 RBI game last year, a 2 HR 7 RBI game in 2006. HA that is what I get for listening to ESPN. They said no Cubs 3rd basemen had done it since Santo. Niceee....... Perhaps they meant "white" third baseman?
  6. (keep in mind, the article is from the sportspickle...)
  7. http://www.sportspickle.com/features/volume7/2008-0702-bandwagon.html Love it.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13dUZTSf_lM Sorry if this has already been posted...
  9. That's easy... I'd shoot him in the knee.
  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Danks I think it was more of a reference to the last time a white sox pitcher tried calling out the cubs (and greg maddux) and maddux replied with "Who's Mark Burhle?"
  11. Intrascrotal hematosa. ftw
  12. It's weird... the cardinal fans I work with are complaining... saying that it sucks because of all the injuries... and I mention our past injury problems, and they try to "compare" them saying there injuries are 1000000000x greater than any we had.
  13. I live 10 miles from highland (go there for walmart runs sometimes). I've been hearing about this kid for a while now. Has been really impressive and has a lights out fastball (for a high school kid).
  14. I wish ESPN would have let me know about this! now I've missed the greatest event to take place in my (or anyones) lifetime. dang it!
  15. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080603&content_id=409058&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp I just posted this in the minor league thread, but not a lot of people venture over there. Clement started yesterday against the Daytona Cubs.
  16. No mention of the fact that it was Matt Clement pitching against Daytona? Good news... clement is pitching again... bad news is he didn't look TOO terrible out there. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080603&content_id=409058&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp
  17. there's definitely a difference there, but the road stats (though i'm no expert by any means) seem to be alright.
  18. The greatest heckle I ever heard was in the Yankee Stadium bleachers (pre-alcohol ban) with Joe Carter playing for Toronto. The fans were all over him, his fat behind and marital status. A handful of eastern European tourists were thoroughly enjoying the evening, and one got into the act with, "Joe Carter, I've done things with your wife!" nice. My personal favorite from this year is a toss up between the "Sli-ding glass door *clap clap clapclapclap*" they were doing for Hunter Pence or a this guy who shouted "HEY , YOUR BATTING AVERAGE IS SUB-PAR" but what about his OBP?
  19. I still can't believe we just GAVE him to the Reds.
  20. Can we please stop acting like this team is good at stealing bases and clamoring that they do it more often? They can barely lay down a decent bunt. I think that's one thing we all agree on... being fast doesn't equal being good at stealing bases... but when the first baseman isn't holding you, and the pitcher isn't checking (and is basically giving you 2nd base) and you don't take it... that's different. And you're spotting this exact no-doubt situation over and over again? My guess is he's referring to last night. The fact that he didn't steal 2nd with Broxton on the mound, runners on the corners, and 1 out seems to indicate that he's not that close to 100%. That is the scenario that I was "spotting" again. And it didn't end up costing the cubs that time... And also, I don't believe stolen bases are as valuable as they were in the past, but if the game is close and you have the opportunity to get into scoring position... then do it. Be smart about it, but do it. Don't pull a Corey Patterson and try to steal 3rd with 2 outs and get thrown out to end the game, but at least try to get yourself into scoring position to give your team the best chance to win. But what if you play on a team that as a whole really, really, really stinks at basestealing, but is suprisingly very good at hitting? At this point, the only person I'd tolerate attempting to steal on this team is Fukudome. Too bad the best basestealer by far is wasting away in the minors "fixing his swing." I do agree with you for the most part. In that situation, just hit the runners over, manufacture the runs, etc. Speaking of our best base stealer who is fixing his swing, how's he doing back in Iowa?

  23. I'm not criticizing him for being hurt... but I AM criticizing him for continually lying and saying he is 100% healthy when it is obvious to EVERYBODY that he isn't. Even my coworkers (who are ALL cardinal fans) were like, "What's up with Soriano... he couldn't even score from 2nd on a base hit!" If he is not healthy and cannot run, he should NOT be hitting 1st. Granted, we don't have many other solid options there, but at least put someone who is going to steal a base when the pitcher is giving it to them.
  24. Likely scores and Actually scores are worlds apart in close games.
