  1. The only starter from the opening day roster that has not yet been on the DL this year. And it's correct. 4/5 starters, 4/8 starting position players, 2/5 bench players (with another one demoted), and 1/3 of the key relievers so far now have hit the DL. Starting to remind me of Charlie and the Chocalate Factory. That damn Augusta Gloop pisses me off every time I watch that movie.
  2. Been away from my computer and didn't get a chance to post the link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/baseball/mlb/06/29/cardinals-franklin-released.ap/index.html?sct=hp_t2_a10&eref=sihp
  3. Also, is it ok to throw a spitball? And then flip off the crowd?
  4. Didn't see this posted anywhere. Looks like the Cards have released Ryan Franklin.
  5. Threw out an opening pitch that was just awful. Made it about 20'
  6. These are almost all thoughts going through my mind... pitch from the stretch or full windup? If I do a windup, do I do an exaggerated windup? Do I do the Nomo? The DWillis? The Fernando? How often do I shake off the sign? Do I step off throw to first?
  7. That might be the most amazing 1st pitch ever.
  8. So, I get to throw out the first pitch of a professional baseball game (I cringe to call it "professional"). It's for an independent league game. Anybody have some tips? Do you take a mitt out? I feel weird throwing without a mitt. Do I throw a breaking ball? The heater? Change up? They are all pretty much the same pitch for me and top out in the upper 50's.
  9. I was disappointed in the lack of Gayroller 2000 shirts in the video. http://shop.theoatmeal.com/collections/frontpage/products/gayroller-2000-shirt
  10. OH MY GOD! We're having a FIRE. sale. http://www.ifc.com/videos/arrested-development-top-banana.php
  11. I had posted a story in the "It Gets Better" thread.
  12. Wouldn't unloading Soto right now be about the worst time to unload him?
  13. Not sure if this belongs in this post or deserves it's own (or has been talked about already). Cubs owner [Joe Ricketts] accused of firing women for harassment complaints [at TD Ameritrade] http://www.pantagraph.com/news/state-and-regional/illinois/article_31608978-9d97-11e0-b2a1-001cc4c002e0.html
  14. I can't be alone in not getting this at all. My only guess is that its an attempt at an poorly conceived gay joke. I took it as a way that it gets better for Cubs fans... as in Ricketts is firing Hendry. I could be mistaken.
  15. Tyler McNeely's dad played in the Cardinals minor league system and then later in his career on my dad's slow-pitch softball team. Mike (tyler's dad) is a really nice guy and has a canon for an arm. I remember when Tyler was born and Mike had to miss a tournament. This makes me feel old.
  16. Looks like the Rockies took Harold Riggins (NC state) in the 7th round. He went to my HS, granted several years after I graduated. He was a beast in HS.
  17. +1 Absolutely. Agreed. Vince McMahon agrees too. sports It's still real to me, damnit!
  18. He apparently got hit the night before.
  19. Who IS the leader of this team though? Aside from Kerry, he's the longest tenured player. Dempster is too much of the "fun loving" guy, Kerry is a quiet guy who spends most the time in the bullpen, not the dugout... there really is no "take charge" guy right now. Just because Z hasn't been a leader in the past, is he disqualified from trying to take the reigns now? I applaud him for stepping up and speaking his mind in a (surprisingly) civil manner.
  20. I haven't read through this whole thread, so my apologies if some of this has been covered. I was at the game (as I mentioned in the thread about Z calling out the team) and I thought Z looked really good today. His stuff seemed better than Carpenter's and he made Pujols look like a fool a few times. Barney is solid in the field. I saw him play in Peoria and thought he would be good (defensively). It's one of the very few times I called something like that! Koyie Hill is garbage. WHY DO YOU PITCH TO PUJOLS!? Theriot got booed VERY LOUDLY every at bat. There was a good contingency of Cubs fans near the party suite I was in. That made me smile. I'm pretty sure he was wearing an Affliction shirt under his uni.
  21. I was at the game today. Marmol looked ok, and his velocity didn't look too bad, he was hitting 94-95 on his fastball. He also didn't get a couple calls that could have turned things around, but you have to pitch to the current batter in the current situation, not the "What it SHOULD be" situation. Zambrano has every right to call the team (INCLUDING Quade). Can we start the preemptive Mike Quade is a Moran club? Seriously. Pitching to Pujols in extra innings with nobody on AGAIN!? Are you freaking kidding me?! Especially with the junk of a lineup the Cardinals had out there today.
  22. Can someone please tell me WHY Koyie is getting all this playing time? He has proven he sucks over and over, yet he still plays. He's been making some bad plays behind the plate as well, so it's not like he's a defensive genius or anything.
  23. Looks like Buster should have paid closer attention to Ron Stilanovich on how to block the plate. Could have used a Packrat, Gary C. or a Flatbush
