  1. An attempted header and whiff on a free kick actually puts Reading up 2-1 on Liverpool as it froze the GK.
  2. Whats the latest on this? A 3-4 defense could be really interesting. How many teams in the B10 play this defense let alone all of college football? This could make NU very unique in a good way. It'll probably take a little while before a defensive coordinator is named. We'll see, though. But they've been recruiting for a 3-4 defense for over 2 years now. They figured that it would be the best choice since they just can't recruit the good DEs. Ours just don't have the speed to put any pressure on the QB. And while we may not have a great 3-4 NT, I think the bulk up front should be sufficient. Plus, we can move some defensive linemen over to the offensive line, which is definitely a need. With Brendan Smith finally back next season, the safeties should be good and provide decent run support. But they've really be recruiting LBers the last couple of years, so it'll be interesting to see if the switch happens this year. The time seems about right, but the DC position is still up in the air and very much tied into that. Either way, it's not going to have the same kind of effect that the Northwestern spread had, but who knows. There will be some teams that might be better off with a 3-4 because of the same recruiting problems on the defensive line.

    The NBA thread

Detroit just got Nocionied. The officiating couldn't even save the Pistons.
  4. After what Harbaugh said over the summer about UM athletics, I really doubt they're looking to bring him in. Not now, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised in the future. And it doesn't seem like he's long for Stanford. I just don't see him deciding to be there for that long. Although I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him leave. Stanford is our main competitor and he's kicking our butts in recruiting over the last year.
  5. Greene is absolutely destoyed by playing at Petco. It is the best pitcher's park in MLB by a huge, huge margin. Away from home, he's a solid .800+ guy. Greene would be an excellent #6 hitter for us. That would allow you to hit Soto 7th - much less pressure. It would cause me a lot of gastrointestinal distress to trade Pie, but, with Colvin in the system, I would probably do it for Greene. Greene's power numbers on the road have certainly been impressive, but we can't discount his OBP struggles: Road splits 2004: .301/.353/.543/.896 2005: .244/.308/.465/.773 2006: .280/.356/.507/.863 2007: .288/.322/.519/.841 Not that I'd complain about having those numbers towards the bottom of our order, of course.
  6. Well that's not going to make the Cardinals look desperate to get rid of him.
  7. His attitude problems should limit his price, but I'd imagine they'll also keep him away from the Cubs. Then again, he is a switch hitter with success from both sides of the plate. I keep forgetting he's only 29.
  8. I don't like the sound of that... Of course, I'd imagine it'll be heavily backloaded. Just wait three years when they're paying Soriano and Fukudome as much as the Marlins' 25 man roster makes.
  9. Not only was it not Hendry's thought process, but it mostly just takes into account two or three player trades. Another GM might probably wouldn't be offering Hendry peanuts if it's a five or six player trade, which is where some over-infatuation with Fuld might come in handy.
  10. Lunch between Hendry and MacPhail leads me to believe they were hungry.
  11. Capuano straight up for Rolen is a good deal for the Cards. That'd be robbery. And it's the Cardinals who are hesitant to make that trade. Yeesh.
  12. As the previous article stated, though, MLB's deal with StubHub wasn't made until this summer. It looks like the playoff issue was for the 2006 season.
  13. Interesting. While StubHub and MLB do have a deal, it might not be a bad idea to play it safe and try to set up a StubHub account under someone else's name. You'd have to use their credit card, too, but nothing is actually charged. They only hold credit card information in case something happens.
  14. Wow! I did not know this. Thanks for the info. That's really strange. Is it illegal in NY now? It hasn't been illegal here in a few years. Plus, MLB and StubHub have a deal to make StubHub "the official ticket marketplace" of MLB. If anything, MLB would want more tickets to be sold on StubHub.
  15. I wouldn't exactly put too much into the ticket price comments, as he'll have no significant parking revenue to work with. Of course, he still hasn't seen the financial documents yet, so there's really nothing to go on at this point. He sure seems to have a lot of interesting, out-of-the-box ideas, though.
  16. It's fine, but you lose 15% of the final sale price compared to roughly half of that if done through eBay and PayPal. The FedEx shipping is convenient, however. Of course, on StubHub, you'll have a lot of competition and will likely have to keep on lowering your prices to stay competitive. Running auctions for your tickets is also an option, but I've never done one on StubHub.
  17. But MST3K's The Final Sacrifice wouldn't have been as great without Larry. Besides, spite is no reason to root FOR Boston.
  18. Well, he repeated AA last year, throwing 78 innings over 44 games with a 2.54 ERA, 71/18 K/BB, 1.08 WHIP, and just 1 HR allowed. He has a career minor league ERA of 3.58 in 259.2 IP, 224/84 K/BB, 1.29 WHIP, and a 0.49 HR/9 ratio. He'll be 23 next season. I guess we'll see if his 2007 minor league numbers were a fluke. But hey, Infante is gone!
  19. Bah. Well, it looks like everything points to Bates taking over as defensive coordinator if Colby is indeed gone. Bates is somewhat of an expert on the 3-4 defense and Colby was probably the only factor preventing Fitz from implementing the 3-4, as Colby had no experience with it. Either way, this sure takes the sting out of losing Murphy.
  20. I think Hendry might take one look at the BA column and pass on him before he ever got to see which side of the plate he bats on.
  21. I believe that to be the case, though. Colorado plays as a hitter's park more for the spacious outfields, rather than HR's. At least since Colorado adopted the storing of baseballs in a humidor. In 2007, Coors had a HR park factor of 1.218, 5th highest in the majors. It was 10th highest in 2006 and 8th in 2005. I think that it's drop from the top 2 or 3 earlier in the decade towards the middle of the pack a few years ago probably leads to a perception that it's not much of a HR park, but it's right back up there now.
