  1. I think I had forgotten just how many bad seasons position players had on that team: Damian Miller - .233/.310/.369 Alex Gonzalez - .228/.295/.409 Ramon Martinez - .283/.333/.375 Paul Bako - .229/.311/.330 Troy O'Leary - .218/.275/.356 Tom Goodwin - .287/.328/.363 Mark Bellhorn - .209/.341/.317 (forgive me) Lenny Harris - .183/.255/.229 Jose Hernandez - .188/.222/.348 Doug Glanville - .235/.259/.294 Tony Womack - .235/.250/.314 Augie Ojeda - 120/.185/.120 I guess I didn't realize just how much Ramirez struggled that season with the Cubs, too.
  2. I'm guessing that half of the seats at Pryor's next basketball game will be filled with head and assistant coaches. What a circus. I'm getting antsy for national signing day. NU has a chance to close out the class very nicely.
  3. The jerseys look better with the name and number on them: http://onionbag.com/images/products/10ALTUSAHSS0809.jpg I wonder what the rest of the kit will look like, though.
  4. He'll spend the 2008 season with Chivas USA.
  5. Shakeup in the ESPN booth:
  6. The Jeremy (sp) Stevens one is really troubling. Yeah. Unfortunately, there's a lot of disturbing stuff in that series, including the way Washington's legal system dealt with a lot of it.
  7. The Seattle Times is running a week-long series about the University of Washington football program that is quite interesting. I'd recommend reading it and this story might be a good place to start.
  8. They were clearly in the Presidential primary mood, I suppose.
  9. Not a great goodwill move if true.
  10. I'm going to move this over to the baseball forum, by the way.
  11. That's a pretty bold look ("Wait, is 'bold' the right word?"), especially since the roads appear to be just plain Navy. No better way to introduce a new kit than to beat Mexico, though.
  12. I'd imagine they felt the need to add those to make up for not offering the Friday White Sox game.
  13. The official announcement is still coming, but it has been confirmed according to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=978015 Thanks for the link.
  14. Did WGN and CSNC announce that? I must have missed it. Has anyone heard anything about WCIU HD on DirecTV? I haven't been able to find any information about it.
  15. I'm just the opposite. Reading things like this make me glad I decided to change majors from Journalism. And by the same token, reading things like this make me believe that I can become a writer for a big time paper someday. I mean, I may not have the biggest vocabulary in the world but at least I'm not a complete moran. I really should start printing this like this out and save them. Then, when I go in for a job interview and I get asked the question "Why should we hire you?", I can present things like this and say that I will never, EVER, write stupid crap like this. I'm not a sports journalist, but in the next interview I have, I'm going to pull out the +/- stat. What could be better at convincing someone to hire me than to inform them by doing so, they'd be +1?
  16. The Red Sox and Cardinals have always allowed buyers to purchase tickets for multiple games in one transaction, but the Cubs have not. I doubt they change that this year. I'd prefer that they did allow multiple purchases in one transaction. As it is, buyers pay separate fees for each game. It's all about the in-demand games, I'd imagine. If the Red Sox had put Opening Day and the Yankees games on sale, I doubt they would have allowed multiple transactions in one trip through the VWR. It would be nice if the Cubs could somehow work things where you could purchase tickets to multiple games that are less popular, though, but it would probably be a big pain for them.
  17. Bradley scored two more today and apparently Everton is hot after him.
  18. Supposedly part of that proposal was to dedicate a significant percentage of the parking spots to residents, but who knows if that's what would actually happen.
  19. The underground batting cages connecting to the clubhouse(s) were part of it, yeah. The plans were put on hold because of the impending sale. This was from last weekend and I'm sure the Cubs already knew about the proposal for the complex across the street: The restaurants and Cubs HOF were part of the original plans, I believe.
  20. Hopefully it won't block the view of the skyline from the back of the UD reserved seats on the first base side. I've always enjoyed that view when I've sat back there.
  21. This proposal calls for a 500-spot parking garage. While most of those spots would be used up by condo residents, but I'd imagine that it wouldn't make the parking garage proposed on the Wrigley campus all that useful. I doubt many staying at a hotel in that location would bring their cars. I'd have to believe that the triangular building proposal won't be brought back up for a while, although at some point they'll have to address the batting cage situation.
  22. I wouldn't think the demand would be there to auction off all 70 of those seats for the whole year, but you never know. If they decided to auction them off for individual games, that would probably take too long and most likely result in a lot of April and May games being released to the general public due to lack of corporate demand.
  23. I find it a little strange that the Cubs would implement a system-wide policy that minor leaguers must wear their socks up.
  24. I'm really not sure how that would work.
  25. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/alternatethumbnails/story/2008-01/34898959-24041718.jpg This would certainly change the feel of the area right around Wrigley.
