I'm surprised they re-signed Davis. As limited as his abilities are, he still provides some depth and is a pretty good special teams player.

I'm surprised the proposed Hester Rule even got that far.

I think what failed the Cubs was Wrigley being so cheap. The farm team and other areas of the game he went on the cheap. And for the longest time both Wrigleys viewed the successful PCL Angels much more as separate from the Cubs system, which really hurt.

When's the last time Kaplan has been right about something? If he was going to be right about something, I'd imagine it would be in regards to college basketball considering the connections that he has.

In case opening day gets rained (or snowed) out - they are able to postpone it to the next day. It also gives the players and coaches a much needed chance to settle in to their residences in Chicago. -
There are limits on how many times a team can appear on prime time. Without knowing the rest of the schedule, it's quite possible that the networks think there are other weeks this season that will benefit more from a Patriots game on TV than during the first weekend.

It's hard for there to be a direction when the team philosphy changes every year or is based on something unobtainable, such as improving clutch hitting.

Well, he sat for what, 45 minutes during the rain delay? He's at 89 pitches in the first game of the season. With the rain delay, that's extending him quite a bit. Heck of a start, though.

How in the heck do you get picked off second with 1 out in a tied game after nearly getting picked off a minute before?

79 pitches for Z through 6 innings. I know Lou won't pull him now, but hopefully he doesn't let Carlos go any further than the 7th.

I can't seem to find any gamecast that works well for me. Gameday doesn't update on this computer, yahoo's doesn't work, and ESPN only recently put up their link, but it still only lists the first inning plays.

2 minutes into the season and already Gameday is way behind. We could get some t-storms in another hour or a little less, but they'd be very brief.

There's more, but the path is pretty much the same as before. It's going to be close, but at the very least most of it will stay to the south. Whenever they take the tarp off the first time, they do it to dump the water into the outfield. They then have to put the tarp back on in order to roll it up properly.

I'm more optimistic now than before. The northern half of the second wave has been breaking up a bit over the last hour and it still looks like there's a good chance it'll miss us to the south. First pitch may not even be delayed that much, either.

I'm a couple of miles north of Wrigley and it's relatively dry right now, but it should start raining any minute now. I'm glad they were able to get in the Ernie statue dedication.
