  1. I'd just like to say that I hope Dallas sends Romo out Sunday. That's equivalent to Yost letting Gallardo stay in the game after he obviously screwed up his knee. They have a good enough team to at the very least make the playoffs, it would be dumb beyond cognition to let him play. Oh yeah, Philip Rivers for MVP. Glad all that "he's only a byproduct of LT" talk is over and done with. Of course you'd never know from the mass media that he's the best QB in the league right now because his last name isn't Manning or Romo. Or Favre. PS - Chad Pennington is currently 6th in QB rating right now
  2. obligatory "norv turner is inept" post
  3. Not sure about the whole "need" of a jackass, but I'd be fine with that too. However, he's 34,I want nothing more than 2 years. I think someone's dumb enough to offer 3 or more.
  4. Who cares. The mass media is obsessed with the Cubs losing ways. It's kind of flattering really. Would you rather be ignored altogether like they do with most other MLB teams? The Cubs have huge following and are probably going to be in a great position to win for at least the next few years. We're on the right track.
  5. Well he definitely has upside and he was only a viable option (in my scenario) because Hendry sold high on Theriot. Ideally he would sell high for another SS, otherwise what other options are there out there for SS? I suppose we could hand it over to Cedeno but I'm not more comfortable doing that either. Cesar Izturiz is this side of 30... *ducks*
  6. OK, if any of this has been covered I apologize. Here's my take. C: Soto = gold 1B: Lee - Would love to trade him, but what is his value at this point? Not to mention his NTC. He seems to apparently have a good influence in the clubhouse. Bat second please. 2B:Derosa - Keep unless you somehow get a steal for Roberts. I seriously doubt that happens though. Go after Roberts in 2010 if you still have your semi, Jim. SS: Theriot - Sell high. He got on base at a great percentage in 08. He also OPS+ 95. He's average with the glove at short but has a below average arm and below average range. Sell. High. For. Once. Furcal is number one option, if that fall through then Renteria. 3B: Ramirez - Obviously keep. LF: Soriano - There is no good answer here. He's got a brutal contact. Listen to offers, but undoubtedly there will be no takers. In LF or RF, he's got terrible insticts but a great arm. He's never played RF before, leave him in LF. CF: Trade Florida a package involving Pie for Hermida. Pie, Atkins, Veal would work for me. I have little hope for Veal, might as well sell while his value is somewhat ambiguous rather than nonexistent. Move Fukudome to CF. Teach him to hit lefthanders and breaking balls. I'm not a hitting coach so I don't know how to do this. But get it done. RF: Hermida SP: Harden, Z, (sign) Burnett, Lilly, Marshall/Gaudin/Marquis RP: Marmol, (re-sign) Wood, Marshall/Gaudin/Marquis, Shark, Cotts?, etc. Anyways, this is my October plan. I'd go this with lineup: SS Furcal/Renteria 1B Lee 3B ARam LF Soriano RF Hermida C Soto 2B DeRosa CF Fukudome That's a damn fine lineup, especially if Fukudome could figure out how to hit MLB pitchers. Not a complete overhaul, but some nice additions and changes.
  7. found this pic on facebook, is it relevant? http://blog.nj.com/ledgerupdates_impact/2007/11/medium_20071102abreuM.jpg

    Soto

anybody remember Sandy Martinez? That guy had a crazy catching stance. Sorry, off topic. No, not worried about Soto. Other than the fact he looks like he's terrible at baseball right now along with the other 8 players on the field.
  9. I wrote "it's not that hard" specifically for the innuendos. Nice work guys.
  10. I think this makes more sense than those who are claiming this team isn't motivated enough or they don't care. Just hire a stripper to work the clubhouse an hour before gametime. It's really not that hard.
  11. Yeah, but it's really a moot point until the new owner is announced and we see what kind of spending will be done and moves will be made. I REALLY hope Hendry can sell high on Theriot this winter, I don't think he'll match his numbers in 2009. I'm sure it won't happen though. If Dempster gets the money I think he will, I'll be happy he's gone. Also, you have Gaudin, Shark, and possibly Hill around to take Dempster's spot. Not great really, but thats only if we don't acquire another.
  12. What does that even mean?
  13. I'd guess groupthink theory. Since you're a mod, there is a cohesive quality to the group of cubs fans that you associate with. the more cohesive the bond, the stronger the relationship. Since you're a mod, you have a stronger quality of membership than others on this site. Honestly...I don't know. I'm just joking around. In reality though, if it was never brought up that the cubs haven't won in a 100 years, how big of a deal would it be? Certainly not that big of a deal. As KylJRM has mentioned unforgivingly, it's sometimes a crapshoot. So basically, what I'm saying is don't count us out. Maybe that's not what he's saying, but that's what I'm saying. LET'S DO THIS!
  14. So let me get this straight. Fukudome is trash for about 4 straight months, Lou starts him in the playoffs, he's still trash, and then Lou is surprised/upset? Good job Lou Yeah but Dusty would have done the exact same thing, but still defended him, and then made some sort of weird fishing analogy that confuses everyone and causes him to change the subject. Also Mike Fontenot would be out of baseball if Dusty was still the manager, so the next best option would have been like Steve Finley or something, but still. Why are we comparing Lou to Dusty though? Dusty should not be the standard manager to make comparisons about. Everybody is better than Dusty, so you shouldn't be congratulated for it. Fukudome has been trash for months and everybody knew it. It's Lou's fault for playing him. Dusty actually managed a team to a playoff series win. sorry, had to do it.
  15. I would imagine that Fukudome's pride is taking a huge hit. Isn't getting called out in the media even more embarrassing in Japan? Considering it's a collectivist society, I would say that being called out in front of pretty much the world, would have a detrimental effect. Seems like being unable to perform his job would be a bigger hit to his psyche than some American calling him out. The Japanese individuals I have met in my industry show extremely high amount of pride in their work ethic and ability to perform their job. Fukudome, cannot perform his job. Yep. Since we play here in America, the [sporting] media does little to sugar coat it. He sucks right now. He's letting his company down. He's a failure. I'm sure he feels bad.
  16. Who could have predicted that he'd fail? Matsui has earned his pay (i think?). Either way, he's been productive. I kept holding out that Fukudome would really alter his approach this offseason and be moved to center (if we got a good bid on pie). I haven't heard the post game conference, but I know I'm pissed at fukudome, so he's gone. Let's take it one game at a time. PS - Tomorrow will suck

  18. Is this game really still going on? I turned it off a while back. Drink some beer and listen to music, it takes your mind off how bad this cubs team seems to think it is in the playoffs.
  19. Had he said that about three weeks ago in General Baseball, no one would have thought anything of it. Saying it in the middle of a contentious game thread full of pissed off Cubs fan is generally a bad idea. Yeah, tell them that CC was a playoff choker in their game thread today and I guarantee you would have been banned.
  20. at least we have our top 2 pitchers returning next season. (not that it matters)
  21. I'm a UF fan and your sig makes me feel even worse. thanks a lot. I give up
  22. Considering it's 12:16 AM here I'll say yesterday only to be difficult. Other than that, no. I hate the cubs by the way. Who am I kidding? I hate myself for loving the cubs.
  23. This will be my defense mechanism of choice as well. GO CUBS!
