  1. Despite the football know-it-all's advice, the Chargers select: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ALAMCbqd0YY/SvHnh5wSRMI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/zO0V-IaatHA/s320/Mount+Cody.jpg Terrence Cody - DT - Alabama To me, he looks too much like Jamaal Williams v. 2.0 to pass up. He really doesn't have to move around too much in the Charger's 3-4 scheme - just get in the way. Of course, he could always lose weight too if needed.
  2. :yahoo: On a side note, are the A's planning on trying out Fox at 3B full time?
  3. I thought so too myself initially, but after perusing the schedule it appears that they'll need the fifth starter three times in April and once again May 1st. The Cubs play 20 games in a row from April 14-May 2. Not your typical April schedule. Good for me, bad for the team.
  4. I really hope he doesn't end up taking Tracy's roster spot (if he had one to begin with...) ](*,)
  5. Only 8 more days until we host #2 Virgina! BASEBALL! I'm pumped!
  6. A couple more All-American teams: National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ECU's Kyle Roller and Trent Whitehead named 2nd Team by NCBWA and Roller named first on Collegiate Baseball's list.
  7. How about this kid... (though I'm sure most here have seen it, it's a few years old and the view count's over 5 and a half million  )
  8. Yeah, I agree and I have mixed feelings about it. I agree with some of the negatives, but I think it also has the potential to make the event even better - it just depends on how it all plays out. However, I disagree with the point that no one will watch except for the fans of the additional teams. The biggest interest factor in the tournament are the brackets and I have to think that they will somehow work these additional games into them. That alone will generate a lot of interest, and consequently, ratings and revenue.
  9. I'll watch them because there is nothing else on sports-wise in February.
  10. somewhere between muhammad and ernie banks
  11. like who? Maybe if someone else stood out that much to everyone this past week they'd get talked about more than McCluster, but nobody has apparently. This Site cites 10 players as risers excluding McCluster: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/story/12852998/senior-bowl-practice-risersfallers-blount-up-gilyard-down This Site includes McCluster in their top 10 players: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/01/26/seniorbowl.tuesday/index.html Either way, I'm not saying he isn't (or won't be) an effective NFL player. I'm saying he, IN MY OPINION, will not make a great enough impact in the NFL to necessitate this sort of attention. If a backup running back is the standout in the senior bowl (and everybody already knows this to be the case) then this is one piss poor senior bowl. Tim Tebow attention aside, there should be other RBs (e.g. Blount, Best, Unga) that should attract attention from the national media.
  12. NO ONE is saying otherwise!! Not one single talking head is saying he's going to be an elite or great running back, so it's not like you are going out on a limb saying what you are saying. Everyone I've heard just says he has the potential to be a great scatback like Sproles. Lord have mercy. Fine, I accept that. I just don't understand why people (i.e. "college football experts") are so hung up on the guy. I mean he's a great athlete, but they could be spending their resources on a more worthy candidate in my humble opinion. That is all. After all of this, I really feel stupid, because my whole point was that I "like" dexter, but not as much as the media. He's undersized and there are countless other athletes that would benefit ten-fold from sort of media attention.
  13. who are the other guys who look best shirtless http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/daw0521/chris-johnson.jpg
  14. For crying out loud, I'm not saying he's not going to be a productive player. I just think it's funny that every "up and comer" or "improving their draft stock" piece I've heard on SportsCenter, ESPN radio, Cold Pizza (or whatever it's called now), etc., featuring McShay or Kiper features this particular guy. It would seem he's the only back toting the ball in the senior bow. Let me reiterate: I have nothing against the guy. But, he, perhaps amazingly I guess, is all that I hear about. He's a good football player, but I just think he'll be a middle of the road NFL running back in the end. I'm not saying he'll be a bust , that he shouldn't be drafted, or any other "antagonistic" approach.
  15. I don't think there is anyone out there who thinks he is or suggests that he should be. Like you said, he's Sproles. So why hype him? He's a role player. A change of pace back - aka nothing special. I could see if you want to hype him as someone that would never get drafted, but, low and behold, get's drafted. But ESPN has been riding this guy really hard lately and I don't see the purpose. He's another underdog story is all I can see. With that said, if he sticks as a slot-receiver then all bets are off. He looks like he has great hands and, so long as he could run effective routes, he is way quicker and "shiftier" (that's actually a word?) than Welker.
  16. Plus, it's really not all that impressive. He's in good shape, but not so much that he differentiates himself from other collegiate running backs. I don't have anything against the guy (even though it probably seems like I'm bagging on him), I just don't see what the big deal is. If he's the next slot-receiving wes welker then fine. If he's just another undersized RB who has an uphill battle in the NFL then I don't see the appeal or hype. That's all.
  17. He's Darren Sproles. Period. He'll be a really good change of pace back, but, ultimately, he's just a role player. That said, NFL teams are starting to rely on such players more so than ever before. He may be a very solid pick (at the tail-end of the first round - but more likely second round), but I've heard his name way more this week than I should have. It would be like constant attention on a Linebacker that is really, really, good in coverage but completely sucked at stopping the run. I think he simply cannot bear the load of an every down back. Disclaimer: This post reflects my thoughts of him as an NFL running back. If he has the skill set to excel at the slot-receiver, then I completely re-nig on everything I just said.
  18. WOST. SCENARIO. EVER. My friend is an Alabama football fan and a yankees fan. I swear I'll kill him if UK wins it.
  19. Samardzija's a veteran?
  20. he's not arguing against the number 20, or 18 or any other number. He's arguing that not all at bats are created equal. But if you were making that claim, couldn't you also make a case that those additional at-bats that the top of the order receives are at the end of the game - when you would undoubtedly want your best hitter's at the plate regardless of men on base? Not that I think Soriano is one of the Cubs best hitters, however.
  21. On a side note, good luck to him. If he was a Cubs top prospect, I'd probably have some regrets with him leaving. But, jealous baseball fan feelings aside, there are many things more important than baseball in this world. If you feel sports is not your true calling, and you could accomplish more in another career (see: Pat Tillman), then I have no problem.
  22. That's awesome. Yes. That is too awesome to even be sacrilegious.
  23. just nevermind
