  1. Olt I think Olt stays as a power bat off the bench. He can also back up Rizzo with tough lefties. Rizzo was actually better against southpaws last year (300/.421/.507) I do agree Olt's probably the best back up option for him, though.
  2. Maybe my opinion's skewed by the drunk Mets fan I talked to in a Dallas Hotel bar during a conference last week. Said he'd trade any Mets prospect for Baez because "guy's gonna be an absolute stud, bro". After that he said that the Cubs starting pitching would be strong next year with Samardzija and I pretty much tuned him out after that. But seriously, I guess it's probable Baez has faded that far in a short few months by how helpless he looked versus MLB pitching (and I guess PR league if you want to base anything off that). I agree that Almora should need a bounceback to regain value, but I think his "pedigree" as a top prospect with great instincts, defense, etc. could still hold weight to some GM's. And he's still only 20 years old (for a couple months). I just think that there is a lot of upside in those two, and to some degree the others in the deal. What about: Baez, Almora, Sands, Johnson, Vogelbach

  4. I was a dumbass to start this thing initially with my flagrant and unacceptable use of the word. Just wanted to say that. To make a positive statement: Kyle Hendrix wins 18 games with a 3.3 era and 2.87 FIP
  5. Just picked this up: http://www.topps.com/tony-gwynn-cardboard-careers-t-shirt.html Thanks for the link.
  6. Sorry if this had been posted elsewhere, but FG did a piece on "why the Cubs should keep Starlin Castro": http://www.fangraphs.com/community/why-the-chicago-cubs-should-keep-starlin-castro/ Lots of love and optimism in that piece
  7. Yeah. There's an older gentleman on campus that advises students for the honors college who found out I'm a Cubs fan like him. He now emails me randomly every couple of months whenever the Cubs make a deal to get my "take" (which isn't worth much at NSBB but is head and shoulders a higher IQ than the average NC baseball fan). He's nice enough and I don't mind the emails at all (unless I'm super busy) but it's just a little awkward. It also feels like he's trying to get my approval before he decides if he likes a move or not (most recently the Fowler trade). Outside of these sporadic emails I literally never have any contact with him. But maybe he just wants a friend and I'm being a jerk.
  8. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54498&p=2201849#p2201849 Ha! Harold Reynolds was right about Trout and Meph wasn't. The next page involves a bunch more posters making fun of Trout. He had committed to playing at ECU :-( That would have been fun. (And of course I missed the game last year when Theo and Jed where in this godforsaken town to see Hoffman)
  9. FG released another article related to Fowler's defense: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fans-the-metrics-and-dexter-fowler/
  10. Sorry, but I have to say it: as soon. He's never been great in relief and was terrible in the first inning last year. His fastball seemed to climb as the game went on. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see a viable reliever and I'm not keen on a test run that could potentially lose this team a couple games in April/May. He seems like a nice enough guy and I feel for him, but I hope he either pitches lights out in ST for the no. 5 spot or trade/DFA him.
  11. Is a plant about to sprout?
  12. To [expletive] with the meatballs who say "if you're in the USA then LEARN OUR LANGUAGE" he should learn French and just start speaking that.

  14. I [expletive] loved Kenny Lofton. I'd welcome him back with open arms.
  15. What about Hendricks makes people think he's a lock for the rotation/is going to be good? His FB averages only 87 MPH and he struck out like 5 per 9 last year. I get he has really good control, but his stuff just isn't there. He's already been really good. He continues to get results despite the velo. Plus Epstein seems really, really high on him judging by Theo's comments. Hendricks seems like a lock (and I'm happy about that). Edit: Gilby is in my brain, apparently.

  17. Is that why I can't find any more [expletive] five dollar subs other than the "veggie delight" and gross ass cold cut? Subway is fooling themselves if they think they have any sandwich appeal other than cheap as hell. It's like little Caesars charging more for their shitty pizza.
  18. What's his going rate for cocaine these days? He's been clean for quite a few years. My ex brother-in-law smoked weed with him when he was living outside San Diego probably three or four years ago. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it seemed topical.
  19. This game finished 45-26. Rutgers only scored 8 points in the 2nd half. Ha. And they covered the spread of 18 points, too. They are ridiculous on D.
  20. Thanks, Butters. I'm going to think it over today. Bush definitely has upside but he's been inconsistent (and that's been when he's healthy and who really knows how healthy he'll be tomorrow). I'd go: Roethlisberger, Ivory/Miller, Wallace and Roethlisberger, Forsett, CJ Anderson.
  21. I used to play in a league with hundredth-points. It was completely ridiculous.
  22. At 11-1, I've clinched a playoff spot. But, I'm neck-and-neck for the overall points lead which carries an additional $50 prize. My QB (Rogers), TE (Gronk) and RBs (Foster/Lynch/Ellington - pending health) are easy to pencil in. My WR and flex, however, are less obvious. 2 WR and 2 Flex (WR/RB/TE) from: WR Tate vs Chi WR Boldin vs Sea WR Andre Johnson vs Ten (Really hate Mallet went down for the year) WR John Brown @ Atl (if Fitzgerald doesn't play (sounds likely he won't) his stock ticks up quite a bit) WR Martavis Bryant vs NO WR Shorts III vs NYG RB P Thomas @ Pit RB R Bush vs Chi TE K Rudolph vs Car (probably no chance I'd choose him but what the hell) I have both Turbin/Blue to handcuff Lynch/Foster. I'm hoping beyond hope that Foster can come back 100% for the playoffs and Marshawn can battle through his back issues (doubt he'll truly be 100% again this year).
