  1. Jones will not win the MVP, his last month has been awful. .235 .307 .539 In total win shares, Jones is 18th in the NL, and that is including the 6 win shares he gets with his glove. He has fewer hitting win shares than David Eckstein. In Runs Created, Jones is 25th in the NL, behind luminaries like Jimmy Rollins, Brady Clark and Juan "The Don" Encarnacion. Jones will not win the MVP, if he does, it's a steal of Pendleton like proportions.
  2. we went to wrigley field, we got that wiggley feel

my best friend on the team was the sweeper, and that was pretty much his modus operandi for every opposing player.

Kind of pertinent. When I was a freshman, one of our seniors who went on to play college soccer had a unique way of heading the ball. He would always know where the ref was and bring both hands up, clenched in a fist. While shielding the ref, he would punch the ball with the hand on the far side of his body, while making it look like he headed it. He always got away with it. Don't ask me how. you played with maradona?

Ooh ooh, i didnt know this was a "Keepers dirty secret" thread. What about the "I was trying the punch the ball out but i missed and hit you in the face, my bad" move.
  6. ARod said that therapy can be very theraputic.
  7. They should let me write an article about Bowden.
  8. You know what I cannot believe? I have always hated (HATED) Peyton Manning, all the way back to when he first started at Tennessee. It was irrational most of the time, but I couldn't not hate him. Then last year I watched some Colts games on Sunday Ticket, and I became a huge fan because he is just too [expletive] good. So this year I drafted him, and he's [expletive] garbage. [expletive] YOU MANNING.
  9. Sadly, the average baseball fan is a moron, and that is who the Trib caters too.
  10. I'm a big fan of Cabrera, but how is he "better than Pujols at a younger age?" Cabrera's highest season OPS (this year) is a few points lower than Pujols' worst season (2002). Cabrera is 22 now, and Pujols was 22 in 2002. I'd call Pujols the better fielder, too. He was better at third than Cabrera, and he actually played short in a game in 2002. There's no question that Cabrera is a better value than Pujols. Pujols is the second-best 1B in baseball this year and makes $11 million. Cabrera is the second-best LF in baseball this year (behind Jason Bay) and makes $370,000. I'd be glad to have them both, of course. Park Factors. Cabrera on the road this year: 1.016 OPS Which is still well below what Pujols does on a regular basis. If you use stats like Win Shares and VORP, Cabrera isn't on the same level as Pujols this year, and wasn't even on the same planet last year. Compare Cabrera's season at age 22 with Pujols season at age 22, much fairer and much closer.
  11. all so young to be led astray by the dark side . Is his dad a cards fan or something? It's not to late to save him It's not too late to take him out to the woods and drop him off and start over.

  13. It's this kind of thinking that caused the Alfonseca trade; look at save totals, ignore peripherals. and your kind of thinking is what lead to using hawkins to close. he's got great stuff so he should be a great closer. BJ Ryan has had a great year as a closer, in the AL East of all leagues, what else do you want?

  16. Wow, all that time I didn't know that it was Walker's fault that Wakefield gave up that HR to Aaron Boone in 2003, and then him not being on the Red Sox last year enabled them to overcome a 3-0 deficit in their series against the Yankees! i always blamed todd walker and his 2003 alcs line of .370/.414/.704 for the red sox losing. that's because i watched every one of those playoff games everyone knows you cant watch the games AND read stats, dummy.
  17. that's a fantasy website, so being injured does equal being a bust.
  18. Obviously these are just more worthless metrics from a person that doesnt even watch the games, but... Win Shares Walker-13 (430 PA) Neifi!-11 (581 PA) Try to name 5 big hits that Aramis has had all season. I can't, and it doesn't mean anything, other than my memory is bad.
  19. Change this title to "Sosa Done".
  20. If Dusty's hindsight is perfect, perhaps he goes w/ Choi instead. Karros was a good player for a number of years, so Baker decided to roll the dice w/ him and was wrong. It's not like it cost the Cubs the playoffs or cost the Cubs a good player. Question were you upset w/ the Lee for Choi trade. If so, how about I rake you over the coals everyday for the next 3 years cause you were wrong. People make mistakes. That's life. Nope, I wanted Choi to suceed here, but even I realized that Lee's 2003 was probably Choi's peak.
  21. How is that not the point? You want to argue that it's ok to play a lesser player just because neither player is a star?
  22. two wrongs dont make a right.
  23. Who cares? The point is, in 2003, Choi was a better option against right handers than Karros, but Dusty feels more comfortable failing with veterans than rolling the dice with a kid that plays the same position. Jesus christ you guys are dense.
  24. Quite clever considering I want Baker to be fired. :o Just trying to provide some objectivity for a change. Yeah, I saw this post, too, and couldn't figure out who IMB! was referring to. I went back and looked to see if anyone in this thread actually said they loved Dusty Baker and wanted him to stay on as manager and I couldn't find one post that said that. Maybe IMB! couldn't argue with our points, so he/she decided to try to paint as something we're not. I don't know. Find one post where I was talking to you? I was using a little hyperbole to describe our friend over there, I didn't know I had to clear that by you. Maybe you couldn't come up with a post that had any substance to it, so you decided to come up with this bs again, nice going. Wow, clearly you haven't read my posts in this thread. I gave a direct quote from Matt Murton talking about the subject at hand. I don't know how much more substantive and relevent you need my post to be before you can recognize that it has some "substance" to it. On the other hand, the post of your's I quoted above is nothing but an attempt at a derisive personal attack that by your own admission is exaggerated. Your post also failed to clarify who you were talking to. When I read it, I assumed you were responding to my posts. Then I saw that CubfaninCA had also responded. I went back and saw that we were basically the only two posters that were saying that Dusty might actually have been accurate in his statement. I also saw that no one wrote anything remotely close to what you accused them of have writing. I wasn't sure whether you were accusing me or CubfaninCA or someone else of having taken up the banner you described, but since you didn't say exactly to whom you were referring, it was a logical deduction to reach that it was either one of us or both. Hyperbole? I guess if that's all you got, use it. Now, if we can get back on track in this thread. Does anyone else truly believe that Murton was forced to say what he said? Keep raging against the machine then. I'm interested to see just how long your crazy quest to right the message board wrongs against Dusty Baker lasts.
  25. doesnt that lend credence (is it "leand credence" or "lead credence") to the "its a big lie and is made up" theory?
