  1. Gonzalez isn't an above average defender. spare me your frar crap and all those bush league stats that i dont care to look up. Gonzalez is a winner. Who cares about his ISOD i care about his HEART.
  2. Somewhere Nate Newton is like "damn thats a lot of drugs".
  3. im a firm believer that most baseball players are whores, and will go where the money is. we have a lot of money. you do the math. i think it can happen
  4. it is helpful for all players, but it loses meaning on the extremes. noone complains when a player has a .400 obp but has a .040 IsoD. similarly, there are ligit complaints if a player is batting .213 but has an IsoD of 100. Exactly, the Howie Kendrick/Mark Bellhorn example. Stupid people equate those that appreciate OBP with valuing walks above all else.
  5. People need to get over thinking that just because a statistic doesn't tell you the whole story, that it is invalid. Statistics are just puzzle pieces, they fit together to give you the big picture.
  6. if 2/30 is the new offer, why not just up it to 3/45 and see if that gets it done.
  7. For the record, I now like the DeRosa signing, and if Drew signs with Boston, especially for 4/48 and especially this early (he won't), then I won't be upset with Hendry. I mean, really, if you're JD Drew (I feel like Joe Theisman) who do you want to play for, a team that should be at least a playoff threat for the duration of his contract, or the Cubs? Probably option A, and if he wants to go there, maybe no amount of Hendry's money can change his mind.
  8. Peavy's health is a concern. The padres value Chris Young more than they do with Peavy. Yes, but you need more than 1 good pitcher to win and I honestly doubt they value Young over Peavy. Who is the one being traded? That's some of the worst logic I've ever seen.  First off, no one is being traded. Not yet, anyway. This is all speculation and rumor. Secondovely (to quote David Cross) just because Peavy is being traded doesn't mean the Padres value him less, maybe it means that they want Saltamacchia, Giles and Ramirez, but the Braves would rather have Peavy than Young. Anyway, in conclusion, yes, it was bad logic.
  9. http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/09/28/borat_narrowweb__300x495,0.jpg I like very much, it is nice!
  10. I'm going to go on record as being Down with DeRosa. Blanco? Not so much.
  11. If it's true that Jaramillo really did "fix" DeRosa, it might turn out to be a very good signing.
  12. [expletive]. we're gonna sign gil meche and screw this whole thing up arent we?
  13. So what? Soriano is probably worth 20 mil in this market. Zito 17. Doesn't mean we have to sign it. This can one of two ways, either DeRosa can play just like he did last season, for the next three years, and this signing will look great, and Hendry will be hailed as a hero. That isn't likely, however, seeing as how he 1.) is 31 2.) has only had an ops of .800+ once in 10 years of professional ball. Now, in a vacuum, this doesn't look terribly horrible. DeRosa might be ok, and it's only 4mil and a change a year, not too hefty a sum. Even if he goes back to his old ways, his contract wont keep us from upgrading, and it shouldnt keep us from going all out towards improving the team this offseason. But. In the big picture it continues to pain Jim Hendry as a guy that would rather overpay a little for a little, instead of overpay for a true difference maker, and that's what pisses everyone off. Glendon Rusch, Neifi Perez, Jose Macias, Mark DeRosa. DeRosa might be allright, he might even be good, but based on what we know about him, he will more than likely be bad, and if there's one thing we don't need, it's more bad players, and if there's one thing Jim Hendry doesn't need, it's to sign more bad players
  14. i detonated on test, jim hendry should come take lessons on closing the deal Good thing Hendry doesn't take your tests for you. unless it was an eating test am i right
  15. This is why you have to absolutely draft well and bring up your own, cheap talent, because if you get yourself in a hole where you need to overhaul your offense through free agency, you are in trouble.
  16. I would only replace Jones with Giles if the Padres eat an extensive amount of that contract, otherwise I don't think the cost is justified. I'd look elsewhere to upgrade, because, honestly, if we don't severely upgrade ouor offense elsewhere, it won't matter who is playing RF.
  17. I want no part of Soriano for 5 years. I want so little part of him that it's almost like I want negative part of him. I want less than a part of him.
  18. 2006 C - Barrett 1B - Lee/Mabry/Walker 2B - Walker/Theriot SS - Izturis/Cedeno 3B - ARamis LF - Murton CF - Pierre RF - Jones 2007 C- Barrett 1B - Lee (v.2005 hopefully) 2B - Theriot SS - Izturiz/Cedeno 3B - Aramis LF - Murton CF - TBA RF - Jones Yeah, he's perfect so far, but the only changes in the lineup that was decidedly awful are Murton hopefully adding some more power and a few hundred more at bats for Lee, which, say he surprises everyone and bounces back to 2005 form, will be good for what? 6 more wins? Theriot is no lock to best Walker's numbers, Izturis isn't likely to improve enough to be useful offensively. Jones will likely decline and who knows what we'll have in CF. Bottom line, Hendry has done well so far, but he has a long, long way to go to redeem himself. In the words of Winston Wolf, let's not start sucking each other's.....well, you know.
  19. OU's women's team begins their march to the first of their back-to-back-to-back national championships today versus a good depaul team.
  20. Yeah, OK is, to me, the scariest team not being talked about. They're a legitimately very good team that should be talked about with the rest of the one-loss teams. Even better is that there are people in the program saying that AD is 50% for the Baylor game next week, and 100% for the OSU game to end the year. At the least, he should be here for the Bowl Game, wherever it is, and for the Big XII championship, should A&M pull off the unlikely upset next week.
  21. Man, that Oregon "loss" is killing us. We just cannot move up at all.
  22. This is something that Cuse said in last weeks thread, but i wanted to bring the discussion over here. This is one of my main problems with the polling system. Earlier in the season, Florida's wins over Auburn, Tennessee and LSU looked really, impressive (not that they still arent quality wins, just some of the shine has been taken off.) Anyway, those wins look great, so Florida is highly ranked. Now, those teams lose a few more games, and the wins don't look as good. But what can you do if Florida doesn't lose? Florida's ranking is based on the strength of those wins, and they won't fall in the rankings unless they lose, no matter if Auburn, Tennessee and LSU lose every remaining game. Now, I'm not singling out Florida here, just using them as an example.
  23. Be still my beating heart. If Texas loses tonight, and McCoy is out next week, dare I say, possible loss against Texas A&M? Certainly more possible, anyway. Suddenly, if OU beats Baylor and OSU, we are looking at a chance at a Big XII championship game and a possible BCS berth.
  24. Edmonds is done. I'm surprised he can spell his own name anymore. This deal may not hurt them so bad this upcoming season, but in 2008, he will be a nine million dollar bench player.
