  1. Is Lou Piniella really the problem? I think every contract over 10 mil per year should automaticly come with a "diminishing skills" clause. Unbelievable the lack of production for the highest paid players on this team.
  2. This is the most exciting thing that has happened all year, besides Castro's debut.
  3. He didn't sound so "tied" to the Cubs in the interview either. He also made the point that he signed with the Phillies after committing to go to college to be a quarterback, because he would be a professional athlete. He said the Phillies signed him, but the Cubs gave him the opportunity to play. Kinda made it seem like the Cubs gave him the opportunity to play, but the _________ will give him the opportunity to manage. Lots of things to speculate, but we will see how it shakes out.
  4. The T1i also has HD video, but it's a beyotch to focus. I rarely use it. Great camera, though.
  5. Sweet! I'm kinda torn about the release of the T2i - the T1i is awesome with 15 mp, but the T2i is taking it up to 18 mp. I got my T1i this past July, and I am really getting into this photography thing. Thinking about taking a class and really learning how to use it. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 70-200 telephoto lens with 2.8f (REAL fast capabilities). Then if things go well, may step up to the upper level bodies like the 5D. Lots of people liked the pictures I took at my wifes dance performances, and I could see myself making a lick off the pics.
  6. I am using a Canon EOS T1i with a 70-300 IS lens, with an Extreme Sandisk card. Takes some great pictures (better with more light). Here is an example of some of it's capabilities.... http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs530.ash1/31104_392900286917_511551917_4199336_7622569_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs570.snc3/31104_392900301917_511551917_4199338_5339894_n.jpg http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs570.snc3/31104_392900311917_511551917_4199339_3017861_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs530.ash1/31104_392900316917_511551917_4199340_1749854_n.jpg http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs590.snc3/31104_392900321917_511551917_4199341_1620913_n.jpg If you notice, all of these pics were taken behind the backstop screen.

  8. Look at Zambrano's salary last year. Now look at how many wins he had. That is the problem.
  9. Considering what they paid Aaron Miles, I don't think Theriot has any reason to back down from that request.
  10. I don't really feel like I can comment on this, because I fell in love with baseball/the Cubs/Andre Dawson in the Summer of 1989. Oddly enough, I already recognized the name "Andre Dawson" as the 1989 Cubs really turned me on to baseball. Many of Dawson's accomplishments were in Montreal - the same place that probably robbed him of many more productive Major League years. I really think that Dawson's popularity rocketed when he signed that historic contract with the Cubs and responded with the NL MVP award. He had many productive years with the Cubs, and the fact that he openly made it known that he preferred to be recognized as a CUB in the HOF and was denied that - to me is kind of wrong. Considering the fact that the Expos are no longer around, I can't understand why Dawson's preference to go in as a Cub has been rejected.
  11. What a bunch of garbage. Grace jealous of Sosa? Maybe Grace is probably pissed, and rightfully so. If Grace used any PED's, I'll eat an alligator. Sandberg has shown Sammy WAY more disrespect and I don't hear anyone calling him a jealous douche. If Sammy used PED's, and I think we all know he did, I'm glad players who were obviously clean show some disdain and have an opinion on the matter. It's a disrespect for the game, and to hell with all of the users.
  12. DeRosa for 3 years/30 million would have been a better signing than knucklehead.
  13. These things are ALL OVER Ebay. A few years ago I got a few Sandberg "Authentic Mitchell & Ness" 1984 jerseys for around $50 each. I was sure they were knock offs, and mostly the quality seemed good, but the sizes were all jacked up. I usually wear a size 52, and just about every one of them was too small. I got one that would have probably fit Shaq nicely. Never washed or even wore the jerseys to see how they held up in the laundry, but I have a feeling there would have been some serious fading. One of the patches said "1984 MLChampions" - just like that. They look good, though.
  14. I expected at least 15 wins out of Zambrano. For his salary, that is the bare minimum that should be expected.
  15. Why would anyone be congratulating Miles for anything? A good.
  16. I remember when I was about 16, I thought I would try to be a Padres fan b/c they had McGriff, Sheffield, Gwynn, etc.... and that lasted about a month. I love the Cubs too much. Always have. It doesn't change, I'm afraid.
  17. Wrigley Field is the MECCA of Cub Fandom. People make the pilgrimage to Wrigleyville every day from all over the world. Made my first visit in 1990 as a 15 year old. My income was not a factor. I mowed many a lawn for those tickets that summer. Cub fans will find a way.
  18. Money and contracts ruin baseball.
  19. Really? You don't think anybody thought there was a significant chance that Soriano would be completely unproductive over large stretches of his contract? Yes' date=' really. EVERYONE knows that Alfonso Soriano is a streaky hitter at best. In my opinion, streaky does not equate to "futile," like I originally stated. "Futile" is how I would describe Soriano's 2009 season. Let me define what I meant - and it is not that Soriano would be completely unproductive over large stretches of his contract. I don't think anyone really thought that his "streakiness" would basically stretch over a total season, as it basically has in 2009. I think we all expected hot streaks and cold streaks. That is how Soriano has been in his career, and we all know/knew it. So, NO, I don't think that many people thought that Soriano would be this terrible for a season. I don't think that he would have received that kind of contract if it was expected for him to be such an offensive/defensive liability. It seems like Soriano is more concerned with his little stupid "bunny hop" before catching a fly ball, or hitting a home run and doing his cute little WWE "you can't see me" hand thing in front of his face - which is altogether as annoying as watching his teammates getting walked to load the bases in order to face him as an easy out. You really thought that Soriano would have a year where he basically was cold with only two week long hot streaks? Hmmmm.
  20. Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, and Milton Bradley. Three reasons the Cubs are not running with the NL Central. Take last night, for instance. The Dodgers walk a man to load the bases TO FACE A GUY THAT IS GETTING PAID $18 MILLION A SEASON. Soriano then struck out. That about sums it up. Blame Jim Hendry if you like, but any time you sign a player to that kind of money you gamble in many ways. I don't think anyone thought they would be gambling with offensive futility when Soriano was signed. If winning is the name of the game, BENCH SORIANO and play Fox or Hoffpauir (call him up). You will get effort from those guys, and more ability than Soriano is putting out. Cut your losses, so to speak. Carlos Zambrano gets his big payday and then stops working. His season is indicative to his self-admitted laziness. Those two guys could use a heart transplant at this point. We knew what to expect with Bradley. At least he seems to care.
  21. Two things come to mind when I think of Gregg.... 1) Is this REALLY the guy you want on the bump in Game 7 of the World Series with the go-ahead run on 2nd base? 2) Now I see why the Marlin fans were glad to get rid of him.
  22. There is a PLETHORA of Sosa stuff on Ebay..... http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=sosa+shirt&_sacat=See-All-Categories http://i.ebayimg.com/03/!BUTG2eg!2k~$(KGrHgoH-CUEjlLlvzuyBKMy8ZUrE!~~_35.JPG
  23. I think the Cubs have the pieces to be a better team, they just don't use them because of salaries/contracts. Jake Fox and Micah Hoffpauier should be playing every day on this team. More Reed Johnson wouldn't hurt either. Stick Soriano on 2B. Maximize the offense. Can he hurt us more at 2B than in LF? Possibly, but whatever.
  24. The Orioles ought to trade him STRAIGHT UP for Aaron Miles, considering that we basically gave them all the guys they were demanding for Brian Roberts in trade. I wouldn't deal with them again unless it's one sided in the Cubs favor.
  25. I played against BJ in HS and in college, and believe me when I say this - he can drop BOMBS. He played some 1st base in college and put on displays in batting practice. I talking about hitting balls over the scoreboard/lights, etc.
