  1. Colvin has never drawn many walks, and according to his patterns - never will. His .315 OB% in over 2,000 minor league PA's attests to that. I'm glad the Cubs are surely going to be gravitating to players who are tougher outs.
  2. Judging by the package the Cubs got for Sean Marshall, these teams are going to have to offer some quality talent.
  3. I'm actually pretty excited about the moves being made. I know something bigger is yet to come. There is no reason to think that Theo/Hoyer are going to tank this thing, and my faith in Swiss Family Ricketts is restored after an UGLY 2011 season. The only way to go is up, and I can see moves that are intelligent. Well, some of them - at least. Something good is coming. I think Theo/Hoyer are positioning themselves for Fielder, with perhaps plan B being Rizzo. Either way, they are not seeming to be letting Boras play them. We shall see.
  4. I would love to have Fielder for the next 5 years. Anything longer than that and the "risks" (that come with any long term acquisition) should be weighed heavily. I like the interest in Rizzo, though. It takes a lot of leverage away from Boras. Is any of this new? No, but this fresh bottle of rum is.
  5. Who's to say the Cubs don't sign Fielder, Cespedes and get good/solid years out of Soto, Stewart, and Zambrano wins comeback player of the year? Who the hell knows what is going to happen next year? Crazier things have happened. Yes, I am crushing eggnog.
  6. Acquiring Rizzo would be a very intelligent move financially and for the future. Perhaps the interest in him is intended to stop Boras from driving up the price of Fielder. I think I'd rather have Rizzo if more Xtra base power is acquired in the OF.
  7. I really enjoyed the Voltron reference.
  8. I looked up Darvish on wiki, and noticed that in his career he has missed time with a "sore back" and "sore hips." Sounds like a possible disc issue? I wonder if that is a problem that is being disregarded.
  9. I still remember before Hendry signed Soriano and said, "we won't be overbid." Great technique.
  10. Even though nothing is official, if the Cubs don't get Fielder, and/or Darvish, Cespedes, or some creative/impact trade - it's going to be very hard to get excited about watching this team. I have faith that the new FO is going to put something solid together, but damn - it's time to get excited about something other than DeJesus' wife.
  11. There is a difference between spending and spending wisely. That contract for Pujols is too risky, unless you can use him as a DH and utilize his production long-term. That's an AL contract. Fielder would be a great pickup, but that bar was raised and I'm afraid he will be demanding something in that neighborhood. I'm a fan of the trade, but in this case I am interested to see WHAT kind of moving around the new management can pull off - and I am sure there will be plenty of moving and additions. People need to chill out.
  12. Like Zero - I don't think I have watched an episode of Baseball Tonight since the MLB Network launched. Having said that, MLB devoted most of it's show the other night to Bobby Valentine coverage.
  13. Didn't the Marlins offer Pujols 9 years, $25 million per? I wouldn't call that "half-ass."
  14. Weird. I just bought one of his bats from a buddy. It's meant to be.
  15. I would love to see a rematch - in Tiger Stadium or in the Dome.
  16. Congrats to the Marlins for getting a new stadium, name, and manager. Way to f it up with these horrible logos and uniforms. Just terrible.
  17. Who says vegetarians don't eat Little Debbie snacks? I'd be happy if the Cubs acquire either Fielder or Pujols, if it is the best fit for the team. Fielder's immense body MUST be a consideration, as I am sure it will be. He is pretty athletic for a bigger guy, but I would be very surprised if the excess poundage doesn't take a toll on his joints. Most likely in the next 5 or so years. It's going to be very interesting to see what moves are made.
  18. I'm gonna have to drop a 1-2 punch of Jeff Blauser and Domingo Ramos.
  19. The main point is that we will never truly know who was where, and it doesn't matter. That was October 2003. However, I have always felt that Alou had that ball tracked, timed, and that he was going to catch it. Who knows if he would have, but you can't say either way. Even with those pictures, look at Bartman. He is leaning on the wall, arms fully extended out towards the field of play. Alou jumped up, and it is close - but difficult, if not impossible, to say his glove drifted into the stands. The placement of Bartmans arms and body support that Alou was in the field of play. It should have been a fan interference call. It is in the past, and not the reason the Cubs lost the game or the series.
  20. I didn't watch "Catching Hell," but have it set to record tomorrow night. Having said that, every time I watch the footage I come to the same conclusion - the ball looks like it never broke the plane into the stands. I think it should have been called fan interference, recorded as an out, and none of us would know the name Steve Bartman. I think Alou had the ball tracked, enough room to catch it, and I like to think headsup fans would have given him the space he needed. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=3188917
  21. Gonzalez was on a panel doing play by play on the game for Dish Network's MLB Channel last year.
  22. I really think that Alou would have caught that ball. In those pictures, I am not convinced that Alou reached into the stands. Looks pretty clear that the fans were reaching up and slightly over into the field of play. I think that Bartman is a dumbass, and made a mistake. He had no responsibility for the outcome of any game. I don't know the rules, but I wish interference would have been called so there wouldn't be another "goat."
