  1. Uribe would make sense as a defensive plus off the bench. Right?
  2. ...move Soriano back to 2nd base. Win World Series. I know, Imma check into the mental institution.
  3. I got Lasik a few years back, and it is the BEST investment I ever made. I got it when the new "Interlace" method came out, which is much safer than some of the older methods. Basically, if I understand it right, the main problems people had with Lasik was the healing of the "flap" of cornea that is cut away before they go in with lasers. In some cases, the "flap" would come off again - which is not an issue with the newer "Interlace" technique. Correct me if I am wrong, anyone. Anyway, I was seeing 20/10 the next day - perfect vision, the same as an Eagle and Ted Williams. So, spend the $3000 (I spent much less) but do your homework and find the best in your area. Usually you get a loan right there over the phone at the office, and you can make small payments monthly depending on your credit.
  4. Well - Dunn, Kingman, Bellhorn, and Howard all strike out a lot - but don't make nearly as many outs as a guy without the ability to draw a walk. When I say draw a walk, I think we should focus the credit on the hitter who beats the pitcher. Getting on base is a skill, and lots of guys who fan a lot (add Jim Thome, Sammy Sosa, and countless others) made less outs despite the high strikeout rate, because they could draw a walk.
  5. I just thought of something - I wonder if there is a Cub alive, or that ever has lived..... who has ever been on a Cubs playoff roster more times than Wood. I know Kerry Wood was instrumental in getting the Cubs to the playoffs in 1998, 2003, 2007, & 2008. Clearly, he has had an impact on this franchise.
  6. Personally, I think it is a shame that he is not a Cub for life.
  7. Vance - NOBODY wants to pitch in Texas! Concerning the signing of another pitcher (Peavy), it needs to happen. We, the Cub fans, deserve it. It's unfortunate that D Lowe is asking so much. If he were more affordable, he would be a perfect fit for the Cubs, because you can virtually pencil it in that he is going to give you a lot of good starts without having to worry about injury. That is what this staff needs.
  8. This channel kicks ass. I wonder how long it is going to be until they pick up Kurkjian and Peter Gammons. I wonder what their contracts are like with ESPN? I don't know what the fuss with Mitch Williams is about. His point on why Sheets wasn't getting offers isn't that hard to agree with: Burnett finished strong while Sheets finished hurt. Who knows if he'll be back, and how will he perform. I'm sure he'll sign somewhere soon. Because Scott Boras said the Market is actually "fertile" this close to Spring Training. Just ask Kenny Lofton and Sammy Sosa. Great channel, and that "Hot Stove" show they have keeps me going. Way better than BBTN.
  9. SS Theriot 1B Lee RF Bradley 3B Ramirez LF Soriano CA Soto 2B Fontenot CF Fukudome
  10. I wonder how much Abreu will demand now?
  11. I liked this a lot.
  12. Fontenot can't walk? He draws a pretty good amount of BB throughout his career in the minors and big leagues.
  13. ...didn't say anything Earth shattering, but there were some things that were pretty clear to me: * Cubs are not persuing Brian Roberts. Said the Cubs went down that road and the Orioles made it pretty clear that they weren't letting him go. * I did not hear any mention of Jake Peavy. Either it is truly a dead issue, or he made it clear he wouldn't discuss the issue b/c the Cubs/Padres are in discussions. Think about it. * Mentioned the Cubs are going to go with Miles/Fontenot at 2nd Base. * Is pretty confident that the Cubs will pick up another OF bat.
  14. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't make sense to get rid of DeRosa (a positive in the clubhouse from what we see and hear) to make room for Bradley (a great addition with high injury risk). I just don't think any GM would make that move. I still think this is making room for something bigger. Like Peavy. DeRosa is going to be missed. It better be for something that makes the Cubs better now - which seems to be what has been going on the past couple years.
  15. Since we're fiddlin with lineups.... SS Theriot 2B DeRosa RF Bradley 3B Ramirez LF Soriano 1B Lee C Soto CF Fukudome/Johnson
  16. Ya think???
  17. I wonder what it would take to pry Brad Hawpe from the Rockies? Holy LSU 2000 CWS championship reunion!
  18. I think all the "favorites" talk is melarky. Who knows how the teams are going to perform. 2008 Tigers? 2008 Rays?
  19. To me, the knuckleball is a pretty damned tough pitch to master. I can't imagine how a guy could throw it 10 out of 10 times. I might be able to get it to work 1 out of 10 times. It takes a real master to get it down. I imagine that is why they are so rare in baseball. I have a friend who was a catcher in the Mariner's system who could throw one. He was playing around before a game showing it off and the pitching coach saw it. A few days later they had the organizations pitching coach come check it out and their plans were to make him a knuckle ball pitcher - but he retired, so no dice. Tough pitch.
  20. If the Cubs sign Furcal, that will probably push Theriot into a platoon with Fontenot at 2nd, and move DeRosa to RF. More LH presence in the lineup and a better bat in RF seems to be the desire....
  21. Big upgrade in defense at SS. Leadoff man that is a proven base-stealer (which can be handy). Adds good speed to the lineup. Can drink you off the table.
  22. The guy is like 23 years old, right? Jeez, he's still very young.
  23. Getting Peavy is one thing, taking on his salary at the cost of a great prospect and some decent Major Leaguers is another. Giving up Vitters, DeRosa, Marshall, and Marquis is a lot of talent. Yes, you get one of the best pitchers in the NL - but that is a lot to give up when you are also taking on a potentially back-breaking contract. I doubt this possible trade is overwith, and I am satisfied with the work Hendry has done the past few years. He has definately led the Cubs in the right direction, and I am sure there are some big transactions yet to come. Part of being a Cub fan is having faith (or being stupid). Wait until Spring Training rolls around to get upset....
  24. I'd rather pay Tex $20 mil a year than Soriano $16-18 mil a year. Buhleedat.
