  1. Travelling from Louisiana and will be there Thursday night. Will be one of thousands on the streets of Wrigleyville! It's happening, folks!
  2. The sausage king of Chicago is here.
  3. Is Almora's defense so good that his lack of OB skills (taking a walk, particularly) can be overlooked?
  4. Who comes up with this "framing" bs, and how is it quantified? The three most important skills a catcher brings to the table, in order of importance: 1) Receiving 2) Blocking 3) Throwing Framing is not receiving. There is a way to present a pitch to an umpire, and that is receiving. Framing suggests you pull a ball out of the strike zone into the zone - and expect the umpire not to get pissed off. "Framing" shouldn't even be a baseball term.
  5. Ventura was quick-pitching Eaton, who yacked first. Harold Reynolds pointed this out last night. Lot's of drama so far in this young season. I kinda like it. Shark does seem like an idiot.
  6. I don't see any difference - or even understand the analysis. Baez clearly "tips" out in front of his face. It's like "wrapping," but doing so behind your head makes your swing longer - but Baez clearly keeps the "tip" and his hands in front of his chest. He has a LOT going on in his load, but his hands are extremely quick to the ball. All of that "load" may be keeping him from arriving on time at the point of contact - and he'll probably always be a streaky hitter, a lot like Alfonso Soriano. When his timing is on, it's going to be impressive. Depending how well he can adjust on the fly will determine how consistant he will be - and the odds aren't in his favor unless he reconstructs his load and approach.
  7. Is Almora not Shawon Dunston in CF? Only a white.
  8. Sorry about posting in the "transactions" forum. I post new topics about as much as I change my socks....
  9. ...bad break. From his twitter account:
  10. Loved that article on Fowler's defense. When thinking about the trade of Luis Valbuena, this is actually the prime time for the FO to make that deal if they were planning on the possibility of Bryant at 3B. I think it is fair to say that Valbuena is a solid player, and proved that with increased playing time in 2014. Where would he fit in 2015? With decreased opportunities, would his production/value fall off? With the good depth on the IF, and the need for someone with the qualities of Fowler - I say this was a good trade. Definitely solidifies this team.
  11. Decent platoon with Coghlan, but hardly exciting.
  12. The OF can definitely use an upgrade (particularly in CF), but I think Coghlan gets slighted. He was a pleasant surprise last year.
  13. Where are you even getting that? Basically, it means the end of the off season is not here, and things are still yet to happen. My apologies for irritating anyone who was irritated.
  14. Free space on the 40 man. Bryant played some CF in college, I think he can sniff LF - or be passable. There is still time for movement on the roster before camp breaks. The sky is not falling. Can't wait to see what moves are next.
  15. What makes me the most sad is that Cubs FO didn't show interest in McCarthy, even though Theo loves him.
  16. Personally, I don't think I'd want to see Bryant dealt for anyone.
  17. Justin Upton would be a huge acquisition, and we would all love it. What would suck would be giving up parts of the future (Baez, Alcantara, etc) to get Upton for one year, and then him walking for a huge contract. I just don't think this FO would ever consider that because this 2015 season isn't a shoe in for the post season as of yet. I see them making a much wiser choice. Now, trading EJ, Wood, and Almora for Justin Upton would be a good move.
  18. WAY too much. I saw Shark at the Cubs convention a couple of years ago. Emerged right after they announced his arb agreement - and he was pissed. It sucks that it didn't work out with him, he got a real nice signing bonus and endured all the crap. Now that it's all seeming to come together, it seems that he got out at the wrong time.
  19. Yes, but I'd me more concerned that he's a DL warmer. Colorado's owner loves him, so the cost would be high. Pass. For $53mil the next 3 years, I'd pass too. Start talking to NYY about Gardner for Castro.
  20. CarGo's splits are EXTREME. Does anyone care?
