  1. All he has to do is go to Elk Grove and shoot one over the fence. All of a sudden, N Chicago looks a whole lot better.
  2. If that is what it takes to get a $20 million contract, none of us are going to be able to afford going to the ballpark.
  3. I love it. Sandoval is a nice player, but over the last 4 seasons he averages: 58.5 runs 71.25 RBI 130.75 games 16.25 HR 139 hits Didn't make the WS roster in 2010. Go ahead Boston. Pay him $20 mil a year for 5.
  4. Because he's better than two of those guys and would cost less $$$ than the other two. Are they Cubs going to sign all 4 of those guys? For 22.5 mil per year through 2018, Hamels is a better deal than can be had with any of those guys listed. What do you think the Phillies are going to want for him? I'd say top prospects.
  5. I'd love Cole Hamels too, but why give up prospects when you can give up money and make a run for the plethora of available talent like Jon Lester, James Sheilds, Brandon McCarthy, and Max Scherzer? Shoot for Lester and Scherzer, and keep the future players. It's money that they have to burn. Offer up Olt, Almora, Wood, or some fringe prospects that the Cubs aren't building around for Hamels (and his salary). Philly needs youth, and the Cubs are rich in prospects that aren't Baez, Russell, or Soler.
  6. As much as I respect the Tim, do you really think it is going to take 4/60 to get McCarthy? Martin? The straight up swap of Puig/Castro would be outstanding.
  7. I like the Lester and McCarthy additions, but not really sure about giving too many years to Martin. McCarthy at 4 years $15m per is a little risky considering his health history, but won't be surprised. I'm sure there will be a trade that makes us pretty happy.
  8. We've waited a long time for this. Don't F it up.
  9. When considering the defensive position, I'd rather a catcher that can hit, over a hitter than can catch - if that makes sense. Defense is too important behind the plate with consideration to the battery, shutting down a running game, etc. If Schwarber is an exceptional catcher, so be it. If he is an exceptional hitter who is a decent to below average catcher - I think it would be better if he learned another position in order to keep his bat in a ML lineup without hurting the team defensively.
  10. well now you ruined scarey's whole point I meant it in the nicest possible way. I'm sure he didn't take it personally, as he's been a dick for a long, long time. Stannis is just pissy because he got stuck w Dragonstone and a bossy redhead.
  11. My opinion is idiotic? Gfy, too.
  12. Decent points, try not being such a [expletive].
  13. so, why exactly are you against him being welcomed back? i'm just asking because it appears that you can't put your finger on it either. Why welcome him back? He walked out on his team and organization. For all we know (and we all know he wasn't clean) he is the symbol of what was wrong in the game during the steroid era, shaming himself by acting as if he couldn't speak English. Sure, he was the "heart and soul" of the Cubs and the only bright spot for so many seasons. I enjoyed the PED Era as much as all of you, but I'm just not ready to let go of my disgust at what was done to MLB. Owners, players, and Selig - all garbage. Sosa and everyone else did it for the money. They ruined the history of the game, which some of us respect. Damn, he was fun to watch play, though. I don't care if they "reinstate" him to the inner circle of Cub Glory. I doubt he'd be accepted by that body - but what the hell did they do? I just like to rant - who gives a f$#% what I think. I still love Sammy, but what the hell is he doing to himself?
  14. You all need Jesus.
  15. I happen to know a guy who got steroids from Nomar, or says he did. It is what it is, all are guilty by association. PED use was defended by the Players Union, and owners turned a blind eye. It was the culture of the game. It's a shame what the game has become.
  16. Maybe you should contemplate that fact. Likewise. Okay, I have contemplated the fact that your statement stood out like a sore thumb and have dismissed it as the rantings and ravings of an unhinged lunatic. This may be true.
  17. That is a very good point. Not realistic, but very true. I loved Sammy. I really did. I wish I could get over it.
  18. Maybe you should contemplate that fact. Likewise.
  19. Have any of you heard or care about the things/attitude Sammy has now? The dude is nuts. He calls for his own statue. I loved him as much as any Cub fan, but I have ZERO problem with him being stiff-armed, until he has a shred of humility and changes his whole personality. I don't really care that SF has welcomed Bonds back, or that McGwire is now a respected hitting coach and pushing around a crippled Kirk Gibson - Sosa and his ilk are crap. They are terrible role models for our kids, and a disgrace to the game. It was enough for Sandberg to backhand him in his HOF acceptance speech, and any Cub that I respect has little respect for Sosa. Kudos to the Cubs organization for taking out the trash. I can't believe I'm obviously the only person on 4 pages saying this.
  20. Hoyer: Hey Dale, we have a legitimate shot at the 3rd pick. Make it happen. Sveum: I'll see what I can do. Jackson: I'm trying to win 10 games, here! Sveum: Get with the program.
  21. From contact to 1B mitt, I am getting around 4.7 seconds. On a GIF, not real life. AJ is still slow.
  22. I hate the navy. We aren't the Yankees.
  23. Taking my 8 year old son made this a fantastic trip. He is a big time Rizzo fan, so I actually won him a game used jersey at the auction for a pretty good price (well, it could probably sell on Ebay for 2-3 times what I got it for). He got to meet some cool people and had a great time, including pictures with Wayne Messmer, Ferguson Jenkins, Gary Pressy, Lee Smith, Rollie Fingers, Anthony Rizzo, Scott Baker, the band, and almost Todd Walker. Clubhouse guy Otis hooked him up with a couple balls, which was great. On the flip side, I took him a little early to the opening ceremony thing so he could get a good look at the players and I was a froghair from stomping the dogsheet out of two 50 year old geeks who decided they wanted to come stand in front of my boy 5 minutes before it started. There were some idiots there for sure.
  24. Personally, I was really surprised that Baker went to Oklahoma State as a pitcher. Scott was a very good hitter, and a great SS in HS. I'm going to be very interested to see how he hits. He can swing the bat. Not that it really matters. Glad to see this signing.
