  1. What on God's earth gave you that idea? The fact that he's been hurt? No, the fact that his tone of voice when he talks to media. The look in his eyes as he talks about the cubs or being a cub. The fact he's got a slight frown in most interviews. That's why I said I got the "feeling", IE sense of it. I'm not saying I'm right so please don't argue about how I feel.
  2. I think it will be. . PI-E, PI-E, PI-E!!!
  3. Right, wrong or indifferent, they are. Good, I'm looking foward to seeing Pie in a Cubs uniform.
  4. you guys arent the only ones. baseball is the only sport i have any interest in. i would rather watch just about anything other than football. my wife & i went to see a movie on sunday and it was great because everyone was at home watching the bears. GO CUBS! That's right. Watching an AMAZING adrenaline pumped last minute victory. DA BERS!!!
  5. I hope we fire Lee or at least dock him his pay. That lazy bum. your argument doesn't fit with what he said. lee was hurt for four months last year and played in 158 and 161 games the previous two years as a cub. prior hasn't pitched in 30 starts since '03 (21 starts in '04, 27 starts in '05, 9 starts in '06). derrek lee has been much healthier than mark prior over the course of three seasons. None of these arguments make sense. This is baseball, not ACME Widget Manufacturing, School District 62 or Goldman Sachs. There is a system in place, agreed upon by the owners and players, that severely underpays players in comparison to the open market early in their careers, but then rewards the guys who last with great riches. I guarantee Prior would make more in the open market than he'll make via arbitration this year. All this nonsense about "how could he ask for a raise" is just completely naive. That still doesn't mean it's right. And it makes me cringe thinking about it. I hope mark does great and plays for the cubs for many years. I just get the feeling he doesn't like being a cub, and that makes it worse.
  6. I don't think anyone mentioned this and it would be interesting. . What do the CARDINALS line-up project from pecota? (goes to search now). Because I think we have a better "O" than the cards this year and I'd like to see if Pecota agrees with me. And if so by how much.
  7. I thought I'd clean up Wrigley's line-up (flipping 7 and 5) Alphonso Soriano .349 OBP .569 SLG //// .918 OPS Mark Derosa .335 OBP .421 SLG //// .776 OPS Derrek Lee .369 OBP .527 SLG //// .896 OPS Aramis Ramirez .362 OBP .564 SLG //// .926 OPS Jaque Jones .343 OBP .473 SLG //// .816 OPS Micheal Barret .357 OBP .482 SLG //// .839 OPS Matt Murton .365 OBP .476 SLG //// .841 OPS Ceasar Izturis .329 OBP .357 SLG //// .686 OPS Or you just move everybod up one after Ramirez and insert Pie in the #7 slot and it's still a great line-up. Felix Pie .342 OBP .480 SLG //// .822 OPS
  8. Did you see my post above? PECOTA is pretty much the best around when it comes to hitting, and very solid when it comes to pitching. That being said, there's still a lot of room for variance, especially when it comes to pitching. I would think of these offensive numbers as good ballpark figures. Yes I did, on my 2nd pass of the thread. Thank you. I hope the O portion comes true. I have faith in Pie, but I find it hard to beleive he'll beable to put up that OBP when he is highly regarded as impatient and a strike-out machine, by many here.
  9. With Churches .812 as backup! Does anyone trust Pecota's offensive #'s? Do they have a good history with either O or pitching? Or both? . . .
  10. Well our offense looks great (and I've always thought we'd be pretty good after the offseaons moves) And assuming just for a moement that those pitching #'s are spot on. According to Hardball times, We've gotta go with these pitchers. . #1 3.51: 3.79 Carlos Zambrano #2 4.04: 4.29 Ted Lilly #3 4.57: 4.24 Rich Hill #4 5.11: 4.62 Sean Gallagher #5 6.26: 4.57 Mark Prior Hey! We've got a #1 and alot of really good #3's!! Though I don't project Mark Prior to be healthy all year, and I project a little better for Hill, Zambrano, and Miller.
  11. I'm going to keep my computer on and set the audacity to record. So I hope so. Even if not, they will have an mp3 within a few days I think. .
  12. Hey! For those of us staying home and planning to have a good time listening to the Cubs radio guests, Jan 19-21. Here is the line-up on WGN radio. FRIDAY =========== 7-9 pm. Sports Central: Kap/Waddle 7:00 - Dempster, Derosa, Eyre 7:30 - Hendry, Piniella, Hughes, Santo 8:00 - Lee, Soriano, Barret 8:30 - Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Lilly SATURDAY =========== 9-10 am. Meet Cubs Management: Hendry, Piniella, Randy Bush 10:30-11:30 am. Not for Women Only: Mike Bielecki, Cotts, Theriot, Eyre, Marshall 12 - 1 pm. So you wanna be a major leaguer: Barret, Billy Williams, Tim Stoddard 1:30 - 2:30 p.m Tales from the Bullpen: Lee Smith, Rod Beck, Eyre, Dempster Odd that Prior is there, just because it seems like he's been "hidden", this off-season. Let's just say not mentioned much. I can't wait to hear what he says. I also look foward to hearing Piniella, and PAT and RON again!! Not a really "fun" saturday. Sad that Len and Bob aren't there. http://www.wgnradio.com/sports/cubscon2007sked.htm - they will probably have downloadable later, but I'm setting audacity just in case!
  13. Some one did some study showing the starts by Marquis and Ponson and how much of an adverse affect they had on the team. With a full year of Reyes and if Izzy is healthy with Wainwright is in the rotation, their back end should be much much improved. I'd rank the division Cards Brewers Cubs Reds Astros(assuming clemens leaves) Bucs Yeah but Marquis and Izzy were all with the team in 05 too. They both just had bad years. And Reyes and Wainwright are just unproven yet promising rookies. We have a few of those ourselfs in Hill and Guzman. We had our own "Marquis and Izzy" in Dempster and in not having Lee. We've unloaded many of our "problems" aswell. The Cardinals did not make any "impact" improvements. All your talking about is "possible" improvements. We have alot more possible improvements if you ask me.
  14. Well, they're MY favorites. That's for sure. I hate how cardinals fans claim well since they've won in the past or won last year, they are still the favorites. I have to ask, how much did they improve from their mediocre win total last year? The Cubs have improved quite a bit more than the Cardinals have. And I don't beleive in looking at "last year's win totals". Look how many they won in 2005, how did THEY loose 20 or so games from 2005 to 2006? They didn't loose that many players. So I don't beleive we have to make up "30 games" either, which is what some people would have you beleive.
  15. My mind and hopes are on Hill having a stellar year. Then Gooz. Nonetheless, I hope somebody has a breakout year, I don't care who it is. Miller, Gooz, Prior. Somebody, plz.
  16. when he makes me feel like he deserves two more typing motions. 27 HR and .833 OPS for $5mil doesn't deserve 2 more typing motions? And I'll be ok with trading jones when we get someone who can hit 20HR atleast and ~.800 OPS. Or if not atleast a high OBP to make up for a lack of either. Until then, KEEP JONES!! He's a very good #5 hitter!
  17. Ugh. Just ugh. :x Ryne Sanburg beleived in those sort of things. It doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It's only bad if Dusty is your manager and that is the ONLY things you can do. :)
  18. Here is a very good explanation of ERA+ Its a really easy stat to understand. Thank you, what about the other stuff? K9/B ~~ I think that means balls and strikes per nine innings.
  19. However there might be such pitchers that "keep you in the game". Will Marquis do that? I don't know. I do not look at advanced stats like ERA+ because frankly I never took the time to understand them. What I do look at is ERA. Which is simple for me to understand. An interesting note. When I look at Marquis history, when he pitches close to a ful season. The first couple of years he did that in Atlanta he had good years, then a down year, first couple for St. Louis had good years, then a bad year. Is it crazy to think when he first "takes" to a pitching coach he does well, but then he goes into his old habbits? Maybe it's possible he "took" to Larry and will pitch a couple of good years. I know this is a different take on it, but I like to look at psychology in baseball sometimes. By the way, I'm sorry I went off topic. But I think this is relevant to the recent discussions. .
  20. I don't know if I'd go that far. But I've always thought he might be a nice suprise to most cubs fans. He was pitching pretty impressivly for several consecutive starts last year, and if he regains a few MPH he will be a very above average pitcher next year.
  21. Maybe it's a PR move. Once the season starts and we go with Izturis at SS, well. . Izturis' #'s are GOLDEN compared to old Tom Perez.
  22. I don't understand. Are you a barroid fan?
  23. They will certainly lose me as a customer if they do that. I have zero interest in DirectTV. I usually just get auto-renewed each year through my cable company. They give me all the discounts that comes with it. Those discounts are "early bird" and "repeat customer". I'd have to do some digging to find out how much I paid last year, but it was probably $139.99. I'd pay for it if it was $339.99, but don't tell them that. What I won't pay for is a completely different cable package like DirectTV. I think it would be somewhat stupid to go exclusive with a single cable provider, but who am I? Just some dumb ole consumer. Yeah that's how I felt when I got into the whole HD thing. Last year Direct TV didn't even have WGN on their channel list. Had to use an off-air anttenae. And when Comcast games where on HD, I couldn't even get those on Direct TV. This year Direct TV now had WGN-HD and also through negotiations probably they get Comcast-HD as well. I'm still switching to comcast though. .
  24. I'm sorry, any time anyone mentions trading Murton away I have to say this. WHY!? Soriano, Pie, and who? Drew? How many people can we honestly pay more than $15 mil to (and adding an injury risk to boot)? You know you've GOT to work in a couple of healthily producing youngesters in there SOMEWHERE. Why would you not rather have an outfeild of Murton, Pie, and Soriano? That way you've got 2 guys who are making under $2 mil. Murton will always be a good OBP guy, and he'll start to hit more HR as he gets a bit older. Why would anyone want to trade a guy like Murton, who'se a good player already, and is only going to get better. Could you please explain why you'd want to create a hole in LF, just for no reason?
  25. are you making fun of me?
