  1. So your positivity kick lasted all of 2 AB's.
  2. Man, nearly back to back amazing catches between the O's game and now this. Nice.
  3. Maddon's been really frustrating with the #4 spot all year. He kept Castro there for way too long, and now I have no idea why he won't put Coghlan there instead of Montero.
  4. It's obvious they are. Look at our hitting with RISP lately. Nothing lasts forever, but they're young dude. Of course they're questioning themselves right now. What's so crazy about that statement? It's not even a negative thing to say. It's just how any rational person would probably feel right now. Strop even intimated as much the other day. They've run extremely hot and cold with RISP all season; why now are they going to be rattled because of a couple of games where they can't push more guys across? It's not like they stopped actually hitting or getting on base. It's just something they've unfortunately gone through several times so far this season. It's a lineup designed knowing that even most of the best hitters were going to be aggressive, and at times that's going to bite you in the ass. Couple that with guys they were counting on like Castro and Soler not being what was hoped for or being injured and a bench that basically has zero power and this is what happens at times throughout the season.
  5. Kruk's advice on cutting down on strike outs? Decided to not strike out as much.
  6. This guy is totally not a cardinal troll. THE CARDINALS NEVER CHOKE IN THE PLAYOFFS. Here's a couple times they have choked in the playoffs. YEAH, BUT EXCEPT THOSE TIMES THEY'RE AWESOME.
  7. On paper an offense that strikes out a ton and is made up of a lot of young players and has a terrible, terrible bench is the kind that's going to have stretches of not getting a whole lot done offensively.
  8. ^^^Was this meant for this website? It's always time to see some impressive dongs.
  9. Like the wins over Kershaw and Greinke? Let's see some damn dongs.
  10. Can't wait for another one of your players to get drunk and kill himself driving after the game. Nah, tonight would be better.
  11. Eh; he was pretty good last year, too. I have no real desire to add him, but even with BABIP regression he's probably still pretty useful.
  12. No, the Cardinals simply have the team and system we want the Cubs to have. The Cubs definitely seem to be headed well in the right direction, but what we want is to be the Cardinals, but with more money. It's not all luck; it's that they have the drafting, scouting, coaching, FA signing, player development system and so on that we're hoping/expecting from the Cubs. It's like some people here just have this weird block where they think it's impossible that they could be better at these things. All of those guys turned out to be decent signings. Turns out the needed to do better than that. They've largely constructed a very young, very aggressive team that's going to have a lot of growing pains. Their only significant signing in terms of bringing an everyday patient hitter as a FA was Fowler, and his numbers in that realm are the worst of his career. It seems like they were hedging their bets on having a slugging-heavy team that was just going to pound other teams into submission and they're just not there yet. You construct a team that relatively one-dimensional AND you're relying on a bunch of young players to break out and it's going to take a bit of time to be the world-beaters they're hoping to have.
  13. Since there's been no confirmation of this move yet, can I switch it to Stanton for Trout?
  14. Now that's a good one. I'd love to know the last time any Cub outperformed any peripheral stat to that degree for any significant length of time. Actually, it might have been Carlos Villanueva last year If the two of you were joking this would still be a terrible bit. Yeah, guys like Jason Hammel and Chris Coghlan and Miguel Montero and Dexter Fowler aren't all significantly outperforming their projections or anything.
  15. Um, "slap"? http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view4/2158808/semin-slap-o.gif I'm too classy for such savagery.
  16. Well, at least they'll only end up using Wood and Jackson tonight.
  17. Man, I'd love either. Plug either one in LF and let Schwarber focus on sticking at catcher. Gamble on Baez being able to have some kind of turnaround when he comes back up and go with whatever you can get starting pitcher-wise.
  18. If I had to pick one guy among the rumored names - it would be Hamels. This pitching staff just doesn't have the horses. After Lester the only guy who has pitched a full season + playoffs is Hammel. That said, the payoff of a deep playoff run for the Cubs will be massive. They should do bat and impact arm, and really kinda have to. This is definitely the year to do it. The public on a national scale has never been more interested in what Theo and friends have been doing, and I assume they can get bored if nothing happens. Spend some money and prospects at the deadline to make some serious money for the next half decade+ off of a playoff run... Totally agree with the bold; they need both. That said, both would cost too much, even with the resources they have, so I'd prefer to deal big for a bat and then, hopefully, deal smart for a decent pitcher.
  19. Man, Wood is easily the most unlikable guy on the team. Every time he tries to look exasperated, like he's getting squeezed instead of just sucking, it makes me want slap the piss out of him.
  20. I'm cool going anywhere and playing anybody this season. Making the playoffs in the first year of whatever we are calling this would be awesome. Damn right.
  21. Nobody's said anything like that here tonight.
  22. Seriously, can some of you just stop pretending like they're not simply a really good team? Wood is often a bad pitcher and he's facing a good team.
  23. That's the second time he's said it tonight! How does this guy have his job? Enough people around him must know he's terrible.
  24. Part of me thinks it'd be better for the Cubs to play the WC game on the road because I worry how Wrigley fans would react when the first thing goes wrong after the failures of 2007/2008. It's a lock the crowd would be terrified; the place was a petrified nightmare in 2008 even before the first loss. Chicago fans across all of the sports have gotten REALLY bad along those lines; what little I saw of the Stanley Cup I was baffled at how quiet the crowd was for long, long stretches. With the Cubs I guess you can kind of justify it from a really dumb meatball standpoint, but the Blackhawks are a good team in their 3rd championship series in, what, 6 years? The fans should have been going bonkers nonstop. When I was at the Bears/Packers NFC Champ game a few years back it was crazy how nervous and quiet all the Bears fans were from the beginning. Watching the NBA Finals I was struck by how jacked up the Golden State fans were. They're facing the best player in the world, their team hasn't been there in 40 years, and they're just losing their minds.
