I figure Papa Roach is on heavy rotation for most of the game thread's regular doom boners.

And besides, they could have just left him for another inning regardless of the last start; it's not like he's been racking up the pitching abuse points. People are talking like they had no choice but to pull him.

This is one one of the dumbest narratives you guys have come up with this season, and that's saying something. i wouldn't go quite as far. i'm probably just still reeling from dusty/the 2003 nlcs, but i despise leaving pitchers in for one more inning with a big lead. i don't think it's why we lost this game, but i do think it would have been better managing for arrieta to throw one less (meaningless) inning in the last game and one more (meaningful) inning tonight. As excellent as the bullpen has been pitching lately he wasn't really downgrading all that much, if at all, by pulling Arrieta after 7 excellent innings. We're talking about maybe getting one more full inning out of him in a game where the offense failed spectacularly to push across more than 2 runs with 15 players managing to get on base, and they wouldn't have been any more likely to actually score if he had stayed in. It's the epitome of nitpicking.

Maddon did fine tonight - the pinch hitters did well, and I thought the bullpen was managed properly. It was his decision last Sunday to let Arrieta finish that may have cost us this game. Right. The reason he was pulled after 99 pitches is because we let him finish in a blowout his last start. That decision to go for statistics helped cost us a win tonight Oh, come on. They still got 7 fantastic innings out of him tonight; the offense just failed tonight.

I guess I have to doubt myself a bit because so many on here think that Fowler can and will get that type of contract, but I just still don't see it happening. Nobody is going to make that kind of investment in a 30-year-old CF with a history of injuries coming off this kind of season so far. He will have to get hot and really improve on his numbers while staying healthy to get that money. But, again, I acknowledge nobody agrees so maybe I'm way wrong. I don't want the Cubs to be the team that gives him four years, but it would be explainable if he kept up his pace this season pre-inury. Wins are never more expensive than in FA. I'd still be wary. So many of his key offensive numbers are below or well below his career numbers.

this The Cubs have a bunch of walk-off wins that they've pulled out of their butts this year; I'm far more frustrated with the Cubs only pulling 2 runs out of 12 hits and 3 walks. There seems to be a pretty lopsided power disparity throughout most of the lineups, and the bench is both shortchanged and without any real power threat.
