  1. Sure, but the Cubs had Hairston on the team for about 1 1/3 seasons, a significant amount of time. how does that compare to the two mvp seasons sosa put up in baltimore . . . oh wait. corey has contributed more wins to the orioles than sammy is my guess. About 7 more offensive win shares, 8 total shares.
  2. haha i think i remember watching that game, actually.
  3. I would say that with Z, but not so much with Oswalt. Even Z! is a risk with how much he's getting worked by Dusty right now.
  4. Well, I'll probably watch this until Hill exits.
  5. Hell, I'd take a lot less than that. Anything for Nevin is a plus.
  6. Tavarez is starting for the Sox. I think the deal to the Padres is done, but they can't send Kottaras (at least not now) since he's on the 40-man and would never clear waivers. Probably going to be a PTBNL. I sincerely don't think that BOTH parties have to clear waivers. I think that's a misconception that alot of people here have. Clearly, Kottaras wouldn't have made it through, so there has to be something else at play here. I think we have a general misunderstanding of the rule. that doesn't make sense. they made it a PTBNL. the PTBNL can be anyone on the roster that's NOT on the major league roster. he doesn't have to pass through waivers. the PTBNL is probably an agreement between epstein and towers on kottaras. But, it ISN'T a PTBNL... it's Kottaras. Already named, and already shipped. Nowhere is it being reported that it's Wells for a PTBNL. no, it's a PTBNL. look at rotoworld or something. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=1471 "Padres acquired LHP David Wells for a player to be named."

  9. he's had 64 ABs at AAA. he had a 845 OPS at AA before his promotion. He hasn't posted a sub-800 OPS in his minor league career yet. Before this year, he had a 392 career minor league OBP.
  10. ahahahhahahaha i have one friend who's a big tigers fan and I've been making fun of him every day since that trade. then he tells me about the tigers record :(
  11. The Diamondbacks feel differently. I'll still take the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks are ridiculously loaded with talent. The only reason I'd take the Dodgers is because I have more faith in their GM and their payroll. The Dodgers are arguably more loaded with talent. Plus they have more young pitching talent, don't they? Not sure on that one.
  12. who says the cards are a lock for the playoffs?

  14. to be fair, the compensation thing isn't a done deal. Jim Callis said he won't believe it until it actually comes to pass in the offseason.
  15. Remember the game in San Diego (right about when the skid started, just after the Dodger series when Lee went down) when he dropped the pop fly to left? Just dropped it. Brant Brown like? Those were good times.
  16. Theriot was the much better minor league hitter, in addition to being the superior defender. Well, neither is really a prospect. Theriot is 26 and is a minor-league ecksteinish player with versatility and solid defense and Bynum just sucks.
  17. great things can come from it. in the form of an online comic about a baseball chatroom. Yes, in fiction. I doubt either of us want those things to happen in real life :) i dunno, it'd be pretty amusing.

  19. wow, never noticed how much eric looks like his brother.
  20. I read Aaron Gleeman's blog regularly. He's a huge Twins fan and he's been pointing out that the only reason no one knew about his throwing problems before was because he was in Minnesota. Now that he's in Chicago, the microscope is on him, so to speak.
  21. Especially considering his recent run of success.
  22. Worked well there, I thought. i agree
