  1. To be fair, not everyone has seen Borat yet, so this has to wait until everyone besides me has seen it.
  2. In MVP 05, after a draft I had Lee, Pujols, and Sweeney on the same roster. Pujols ended up in right, Lee in left, and Sweeney at first. I've wondered how Lee would fair in left, personally. Seems like there have been a few corner infielders who have made the trip out there, though some unsuccessfully. I wouldn't be opposed to the idea if we had a great replacement for him.
  3. Sounds good. Hey, I hear you're good at organizing these types of things...
  4. i had a pretty crazy dream about Z! last night Marlins and Cubs in the playoffs, I assume next year. Z in the batters box with Willis pitching. Z squares up to bunt and Willis misses up and in. Z puts the bat over his head while he ducks out of the way and the ball hits his bat. Z was angry, charged the mound for a second, but backed off. Down to his final strike, Willis paints the corner. Z doesn't like the call, so he pretends it's a walk, takes his bat with him up the first base line, and spikes it in the outfield. He was about to go after the 1st base ump for no reason but Blanco & someone else tackled him and held him back. Good stuff. Not really any application to the topic. The back pain bothers me, but I think he'll be able to pitch through it alright until his later years.
  5. That Cubs-Yankees game was weird because it was Wood-Clemens and Clemens was gunning for 300. I was supposed to get Dodgers and someone else I think, but that got rained out so the entire country ended up getting Wood-Clemens. Karros homered in that game too in relief of Choi, right? That game was amazing.
  6. well, is there really a good walk for the Mets? Even an intentional walk is not a good walk. Great all around broadcasting right there.
  7. I think at this point, we have to consider the real possibility that Theriot will be bench/utility. I think he might need another year before he's ready to start everyday. I won't argue that, I think he may need more seasoning, but outside of signing Loretta for 2 years, I liked the option of giving him the job. You can't not look at his numbers and not consider him a starter possibility in ST. His minor league numbers tell me he should never be a regular starter in the majors. However, if he was a stopgap and we end up with Soriano and another big bat in the outfield, I wouldn't be disappointed with him at second.
  8. I'd bat Soriano lower, but he probably will lead off. I think they're going to get Soriano and a Durham/Loretta-type to play 2B, personally. I would love that if they did because that means Izturis is batting near the bottom of the order.
  9. When are we allowed to want to move on from depending on him? After 3 dissapointing seasons? 4? 3 should be good. So after this year he's fair game.
  10. I'm all for having ARod magically appear on our roster.
  11. \\ Why Prior? I'd avoid trading him because he's only had one year where he's really injury prone. Of course, you're toying with wasting his value if he's bad again this year, but i'd rather that we suck the remaining life out of his arm over the Yankees.
  12. Yeah, that's pretty much the goal. What an awful philosophy! Didn't thiey just go to the ALCS without Mulder or Hudson? Yeah, and they've had a continuance of success since Beane became GM. But I was just wondering how you could knock on the philosophy of "get good players for cheap." That's pretty much the goal of the game.
  13. RSF pointed out the WSI forums...interesting stuff. This is my favorite. Yeah, that's pretty much the goal. What an awful philosophy!
  14. What? The guy with a career 4.60 ERA? Really? He has a 3.95 ERA over the last three years in the same division as the Cubs. I wouldn't mind signing him if it means we've drastically improved the offense.
  15. Steve Stone also said the Cubs would win a World Series with Baker as their manager. We were pretty close to doing it too.
  16. wow, none of those things are particularly important for a 1 or 2 hitter. Are you kidding me? Have you watched the Dertroit Tigers? Granderson gets on base, then Polanco moves him over with a bunt, or the hit and run. Works out pretty well for them. Whitesox used it in 05 also. The White Sox offense was below average. The reason they weren't completely pathetic was because both teams had the ability to hit 200 home runs. I'd be willing to bet that the White Sox and Tigers would've scored more runs if they didn't get CS or give up outs in place of trying to get on base or something similar.

  18. And the fact that it was a short series that really doesn't have much predictive value. true, and while I agree with that sentiment, I really can't see a lesser team that's starting Oliver Perez or Jeff Weaver in the post-season doing much damage in the world series against a clearly superior team. Then again, i said the same thing about both teams at the start of the post-season.
  19. sure you are. Aaron Boone should not be employed on a major league roster and the fact that he hit one home run in a clutch situation does not justify the fact that he has been decidedly below average for a few years.
  20. I really don't see why the Mets would give the Tigers a run. The Yanks had the best offense in the league and the Tigers laughed at them. The debate on that is how much the Yankees folded and how much the Tigers shut them down.
  21. why wouldn't they just take Casey off and put Shelton on?
  22. I don't think so, personally.
  23. i think i said those exact words to my dad after each of those plays.
  24. the thing about the wallet was one of the few things that made sense in the fact that it actually sort of correllated to what he was talking about. I can't remember the point he was trying to make (something about not being able to count on something? I dunno.) but it did make sense at the time...sort of. I don't know. Steve Lyons is an idiot though. Good riddance.
