  1. I don't know if I'd call his first few moves smart. Getting Ramirez was pretty solid. His other two signings are only starting to look better after seeing the market unfold a bit. I wonder how much he actually was held back by MacPhail/Baker and how much of this was his own doing. Only time will tell. He still has a lot left to do this offseason before I'd consider him "smart".
  2. Before the season starts this year we're turning the injuries off. what about suspensions for punching opposing catchers? We're going to hit reset during that game. Looks like we've got all of the bases covered then.
  3. Well, I still would've liked Furcal.
  4. I think he busts a year down the road, personally. I also like him as a darkhorse, especially if he goes to a more hitter-friendly park.
  5. Matthews Jr. I think Pierre is going to have a similar year to this year. It's up to you to consider that a bust or not...but that's what he's being paid to do... @ Colletti
  6. That's what I figured. There's not even anything about Schmidt under the "Rumor Mill" today.
  7. I just browsed Olney's blog, and among the things on Schmidt was nothing about the Dodgers except something a fan wrote in, "signing Lee and Schmidt would make sense to me." He said he thought the Mariners would end up with Schmidt.
  8. Well, maybe we can make it up with Meche/Wolf/Lily or a trade. One of those three and Westbrook would suffice, but Schmidt would give us a solid #2. If we have a rotation of: Z Hill Westbrook Meche/Wolf/Lilly Miller/Prior We have one proven #1 and four #3s at the very best. If we had Schmidt, we'd have a proven ace, a solid #2, and three #3s at the very best. Big difference there. I think at best, Hill could prove to be a top of the rotation starter. At the very best. Otherwise I agree. I think we'd need to make a run at another bat if we don't get Schmidt though.
  9. Aramis' comments yesterday really should have bought him some goodwill from the fanbase. He really showed a commitment to this team. If he wants goodwill, then he should show his committment by offering to pay for some of Zambrano's contract. Otherwise he's just a lazy fat jerk. Not only should he pay some of it, he should sprint at full speed from his car to the bank door, shift his feet hyperactively as the teller prepares the certified check, and then speed all the way back to Wrigley, hustle up the stairs and dive in JH's office as he sets the check on the desk. In 5 minutes.
  10. Then again, Pierre doesn't deserve Pierre money.
  11. Floyd.
  12. It was 349, which was a 60 point increase over his previous year
  13. Defense doesn't matter. Petition to ban rolleyes because I'm really tempted to use it. No one ever said defense doesn't matter. I wish that were the case. Will this be the thread where you finally use evidence to support your claim? no quotes allowed!
  14. Before the season starts this year we're turning the injuries off. what about suspensions for punching opposing catchers?
  15. You forgot FJM's response: I thought I had it in there...oh well, as long as it gets posted.
  16. Does it have to be a GM? FJM pointed out a wonderful quote from Stephen A. Smith... As it turns out, baseball's home run is actually something entirely different than a home run. "Awarding a difference maker on the field - and in the community at large - has always been baseball's version of a home run."
  17. I don't really want to go after Crisp if we sign Lugo, especially if the thought is that we need a lefty in the middle of the order somewhere. May as well just keep Jones at that point.
  18. Come on Vance.....even u know that VORP is skewed as a metric in this case......but I do agree some Yankee-hatred factored into the vote.....however as an impartial observer Morneau was statistically better then Jeter Wait, how is VORP skewed in this case? It's supposed to factor in position played. That's why Jeter is >>>> Morneau. It's really not close.
  19. It's always kind of odd to see the third best candidate on a team win the award.
  20. Some people think I'm crazy for saying the Cubs need a "lefty" in the lineup. That truly do. I would seriously consider Barrett to Arizona for Estrada/prospect. And put Jones in CF. Mine is in bold. If and when Pie is ready (he needs atleast a 1/2 half to a FULL season in AAA, before he is ready) Jones won't be blocking Pie. Why does he need another half season at AAA? If he comes out and dominates in ST, I'd say he's ready. He was very good in AAA in the second half last year. I'd still say sign Lugo and have Pagan or something play CF until you feel Pie is ready if he sucks in spring training.
  21. That's what I would want. I don't think we're going to be able to upgrade SS and CF if we sign Schmidt -- which appears to be the plan -- and I would much rather Pie than Izturis.
  22. Schmidt & Lugo + trade for Westbrook please. Play Pie.
  23. no way. mlbtraderumors at least occasionally cites an actual source.
  24. I agree. That would put him in position where he doesn't HAVE to produce for the team to be successful. I just don't want it to turn out like Brian Anderson on the South Side. I just figure we're not going to be able to upgrade everywhere, and I think Pie is going to outproduce Izturis offensively. Not like Brian Anderson had a huge role on his team either...Crede...Dye...Konerko...Thome. Then again, with how we're spending, who's to say we're not going to upgrade everywhere?
