  1. He's credited as a pretty revolutionary DC and won a title as a head coach. He's not the top of the top by any means but that seems pretty noncontroversial to me.
  2. How charitable of our shitty relievers to walk 2 straight guys in the 9th to help STL win a game. God I horsefeathering hate those assholes
  3. Wilmer Flores comes to mind, but I can't remember it ever happening with a player as accomplished as Contreras, and certainly not with a team with no incentive to keep him like the Cubs this year.
  4. Trading Happ never made a ton of sense but I'm floored that Contreras is still here.
  5. Oh god, it's bad enough I'm gonna be stuck with his bobblehead Saturday now I might have to actually see him play
  6. The Cubs just released a lineup for tonight's game with both Contreras and Happ in it, which seems like a complete waste of time
  7. Really strong numbers, but I know basically nothing about him Here I know literally zero about him, but Phillies fans are flipping their lids about giving him up in the comments to this Tweet, so that's probably not a bad thing.
  8. "Hey, I'm old" story: In the days before cell phones, I went to work at my summer job at the movie theater that day after the deadline assuming the deal hadn't occurred, then my friends drove over just to tell me that not only had we gotten him, we hadn't given up Matt Clement (which I was very determined we not do). Good day.
  9. Groshans has a .296 slugging percentage in AAA. Wow.
  10. It felt awesome to be in the stadium to give Willy 2 standing ovations. Just love the dude. Hate to lose him.
  11. I think CB blew at least 4 strike three calls in the game, one on a Phillie and then 3 on the Cubs, Wisdom being the last one. He's hilariously bad
  12. I've said for a while that if the NBA wants to stop the superteam thing (and there's little indication they do), the easiest possible thing would be to dump max contracts. Anthony Davis might not be engineering his way to LA if they're paying LeBron $80M a year or whatever and don't have the cap room to give him as much as 15 small-market teams who would all happily pay him more than the current max.
  13. Looks like another loss under the BS fake runner rule
  14. Brett’s article on BN indicates there were no deferrals included in the offer. Sounds like the contract was very backloaded, however. So not quite deferrals, but the closest thing to it.
  15. I haven't watched a ton of Cubs lately but this is like the 3rd or 4th game in a row I've turned on just before they lose the lead and never score again.
  16. We should have traded for Verlander but for various, um, reasons, I have reason to doubt that Verlander would have been as successful with us - or for anyone - as he has been for Houston.
  17. We wasted Craig Kimbrel on a desperate pursuit for a good contact hitter when we already had one
  18. Their version of our Wrigleyville uniforms. The vast majority of them, like San Diego's, are at best unnecessary and at worst an affront to good taste
  19. Corral in 2023. A nonzero part of this deal is that Corral can spend the year developing rather than get tossed to the wolves if Darnold had started and gotten hurt (as he did last year).
