  1. The Cubs are making two appearances on the Apple TV+ Friday night games in the first half of the season: @ Diamondbacks 5/13 (8:30 pm CT) and @ St. Louis 6/24 (7 pm CT). The first-half games will not require an Apple TV+ subscription so while we have to use the app, we don't have to pay for the service to see either game.
  2. All the gameplay rule changes(shift restrictions, pitch clock, etc) agreed in the CBA negotiations are set to happen next year so there's time to thoughtfully implement them. The exception is the universal DH, which does start this year. And I think MLB has complete discretion to implement or not them next year, they just have to give a 45 days notice. Yes, they have an 11-person committee to discuss rule changes, but 6 are MLB reps while 4 player reps and an umpire are there. So while there will presumably be discussion and input taken from the other 5, MLB can push through what it wants.
  3. Olsen is considered a top candidate but that hasn't been finalized yet.
  4. North Carolina has an entire fake class prepared for when they pull this off.
  5. The worst power conference ever is 10 minutes from having 3 Elite 8 teams. This tournament is weird sometimes
  6. I don't have a strong feeling about either proposal - I do sort of like the strategy/choice infused into proposal #2 - but I would say if they make a change it should be for playoffs only.
  7. Pretty sure that has been the case at least since the pandemic. Might have done a few road broadcasts of their own before 2020 ST shut down, but yeah. I know. Still a bummer. I want to say they did all the ST games home and road before the 2020 shutdown, but I could be wrong on that.
  8. It would appear every Marquee road spring training broadcast is just picking up the feed from the other team's network. Pretty disappointing.
  9. I wish I had the link now because I've been citing it a lot lately but I read the average extra inning game was 4 minutes shorter in 2020 than in 2019.
  10. That anyone expects people to buy that the 3rd straight year of a rule is going to be "temporary" makes me irrationally annoyed. Just say this is the way baseball is now and save me the trouble of being newly pissed about this next year when you inevitably make it permanent.
  11. I would think that's one of those that hurts like hell for a while but is very unlikely to actually injure you? They say he's day-to-day with a contusion, so you're probably right on this.
  12. The QO will be gone if MLB and the players union agree on an international draft by July 22 or something (and early reporting has indicated that seems unlikely), otherwise it will stick around.
  13. The Ricketts are probably calling to get the details at this minute. Boog was extremely open about wanting to get back on the road the second it was possible to do so, so I'd like to think if he got even a whiff that this might happen with Marquee he'd get the hell out posthaste.
  14. Top of head guesses: - are ST road broadcasts a thing? I don’t remember - if yes, maybe Camelback specifically isn’t equipped for them - too short notice for various logistics/schedules post-lockout - spite Marquee broadcast the first road spring game this year, I'm guessing one of the middle 2.
  15. Sports has a way of hunting your weaknesses. ND couldn't rebound all damn year and it leads to losing a game to a team that didn't make a single horsefeathering field goal for the final 8 minutes until 5 seconds to go. A great finish that totally vindicated the season but that one will sting a while.
  16. He reportedly structured his contract so he receives as little as possible in base salary this year, so he clearly thinks he's getting something.
  17. 10.8 bWAR in 369 games for them is pretty strong. Sorry, my sarcasm was more about Machado spending some prime years on the dumpster fire that is the Orioles, not the value the Orioles got from Machado Machado was drafted by the Orioles and the contract being discussed is the Padres contract.
  18. That seems like an awful lot of money for Villar, but I guess his offensive numbers have been pretty darn good on occasion
  19. isn't he the king of being TOOTBLAN? Worse than Rizzo? Unpossible.
  20. I think most don't have much of a hope anymore, but does this effectively confirm we're out on Correa? Or not really a factor either way? It probably isn't a factor but we sure seem like we have a lot of infielders on the roster for a team that might theoretically add another one.
  21. Looks like another potential back of rotation guy is on his way
  22. Full no trade as well, Rosenthal says.
  23. It isn't prohibitive, but wasn't Schwindel at least as good as Rizzo post trade?
  24. While we're assuming things, under this hypothetical Campusano is among the goodies we're getting and Contreras got wind of it which is why he scrubbed the Cubs from his social media accounts
