  1. This is the second time in 4 days that we're going to Michael Fulmer in a pretty random situation and I'm seriously starting to wonder if he's getting showcased
  2. That is a massive wow from Seiya, but that stupid floater hit kind of neuters it
  3. I think it's wildly likely that Hendricks is more valuable to the Cubs the rest of the year than he is to any other team. Put another way, I don't think anyone is offering what it takes to get Hoyer to eat the possibility of having Hendricks on the roster at 16M next year.
  4. Weren't these violations committed during a pandemic-induced dead period? Not that that really makes them any worse, I guess, but it at least makes them less responsible. Part of what Tennessee got dinged for was that they (far more flagrantly than Michigan) were doing recruiting stuff during COVID dead periods.
  5. Interestingly you can't even subscribe if you're outside the Cubs TV market. I'd expect there to at least be the option even though there's nothing worth bothering with outside of games, but they probably just don't want to deal with it.
  6. The service is clearly just targeting people who don't have or want cable/streaming TV but still want to watch the Cubs (the presumption is that if you want to watch the Cubs in market and pay for live TV you'll probably just find the service(s) that carry Marquee) so $20 a month doesn't strike me as completely insane given that knowledge. I still don't expect that to generate meaningful revenue, though.
  7. I only got 5 today, which I think matches my all-time worst. Whiffed a couple of times on the 200-hit spots and totally blanked the obvious Phillies/Jays name. I see they added an NBA grid today, so even more time-suck. I actually got 8 of them, which is surprising since I haven't watched a full NBA regular-season game in damn near a decade now. (I do, however, play NBA 2K, so that helps.) Should've gotten 9, but I whiffed an obvious Pistons/Suns name.
  8. Reds facing the Brewers this week, so there's guaranteed ground to be made up.
  9. You know the Cubs are raking when Mancini gets in on the fun
  10. This is a heck of an offensive inning, great work by the last several batters.
  11. I completely whiffed the obvious name for BAL/LA and have been stewing about it since
  12. Also, I can't remember the last time I saw a hitter as locked in as Bellinger. Soriano in September 07 is the only comp I can think of.
  13. I'm ambivalent about Mowins - she's very solid on football - but it's a bummer that the Cubs have B teams on both the TV and radio sides today. I generally go to the radio feed on MLB.TV on the Boog/no Pat off days and I don't even have that option today because the Spiegel/Menaker radio team actively annoys me.
  14. Of course the nut bar stumbles around like a drunk doe the entire time that ball is in the air but makes the catch anyway
  15. Someone, maybe even on here, noted that if we had just signed Eovaldi instead of Taillon at similar money and done nothing else differently this team would probably be in buying position.
  16. What an honor to have the back-to-back-to-back AAU national champion on our site.
  17. Had to dig deep for Braves/Angels, but pulled off the immaculate today.
  18. I've certainly enjoyed the Alzolay closer experience, and it'd be nice to have a key roster spot not be a giant gaping hole going into 2024.
  19. I for one am shocked that making no effort to actually get Goldschmidt out with Arenado on deck didn't pay off
  20. I've only heard her do it a few times but I am suuuuuper done with Elise Menaker referring to a home run as a "bombski"
  21. Friends and I joke that we've seen incredibly random Cubs player homers in person despite how few games we actually go to (I saw Andres Blanco and Carlos Gonzalez both hit their only Cubs home runs, for instance), and anyone at today's game is right up there.
  22. In broad strokes, MLB's supposed parity problem is no problem at all. I remember going back over the 10 seasons between 2012-21 during the lockout last spring, and in that time only 2 teams were never what you'd call a championship contender. One was Philly, who missed the cutoff by one season after winning 102 games in 2011, and the other was Miami, who almost doesn't count because they've rarely ever even tried to be a real major league franchise. That's not the case in the NFL, the supposed parity model, and the NBA couldn't even dream of that kind of statistic. The issue isn't that no team can ever dream of being good, it's that in each individual season, several fan bases essentially know they're hosed before it starts. But I don't know if there's any finances-related solution to that.
  23. Imagine my joy at pulling up the radio stream of today's game (since I can't watch the game despite paying for MLBTV) to find that Pat and Ron are both gone and some monotonous nothing is calling the game. ETA - I realize now that Pat is getting his Ford Frick award this weekend, so that's probably why they're both gone. Lousy timing to have an Apple game.
  24. This isn't the first day game on Apple. An early-season game against Texas was also paywalled.
  25. So very predictable that these idiots would help St. Louis out. Feels like it's practically our mission statement at times.
