  1. I was just telling people that I hope Hendry's obsession with ex-Cardinals continues at least until Pujols becomes a free agent.
  2. Jeff Keppinger is not a good anything, let alone part of a winning team's 'heart of the lineup'.
  3. I want the Cardinals to win.
  4. That is a horse crap call!
  5. Yeah, the refs blew that on the field. The ball didn't hit Abiamiri or the out of bounds line.
  6. I officially have forgiven Carolina for last week's defense on Larry Fitzgerald.
  7. Good. Keep declining to do that. Just once I'd love to see the Cubs do the smart thing and have Gregg close while Marmol stays in his more valuable role. Also glad Marshall will start. Hope Samardzija earns his way in there too.
  8. We're so not going to be very good this year.
  9. Alright, I'm thinking I have to go to the Indians series. Wood and DeRosa are two of my all-time favorites.
  10. Notre Dame's had a rough go of it, lately. Is it just the competition, or are there some confidence/chemistry issues? Tennessee is in the same boat. Good competition AND chemistry issues are hurting right now. Well, that, and the fact that every team we face has someone go for a career high. It's the competition, and we miss Rob Kurz more than I thought we would. I underrated how important he was to the defense (he wasn't fantastic, but he was pretty darn good). And Mike Brey is playing a 6-man rotation, which an ND blog I read doesn't really blame him for because the next two guys (Ty Nash and Carleton Scott) are 4's and 3's respectively and probably wouldn't be giving Harangody or the guards time off anyway. This won't really cause me to panic until we lose a home game. If we keep winning at home and beat the crappy teams on the road, our stronger than usual non-conference schedule plus the Texas win should still sneak us into the tournament.
  11. Louisville beat Pitt. Wake's the only unbeaten left.
  12. Notre Dame just isn't very good. They shouldn't be ranked on Monday. You can't be called a good team when you're as unbelievably pathetic as they are on defense.
  13. The Big East has yet to get more than 8 teams in the tournament, and the only year they've gotten that many, the eighth made the Sweet 16. Meanwhile, 24 was the smallest margin of victory for a 1 over a 16 in round 1.
  14. This is fine with me, but a better idea is to cut the # of at-large bids to 33. I would much rather see a team like Villanova (last year) get in than some sacrificial 16th seed that's going to lose by 30 in the first round. They were possibly the last team in last year and got to the Sweet 16. Changing it so the play-in game is between bubble teams just means a team that was a 16 seed will now be a 15 seed. Plus it would be more difficult to determine the seed and how they would fit in the bracket with the rules they have in place. as I said, make two bubble teams play-in for a #12 or #11 seed. It's pretty crappy to tell two schools who earned their way into the tourney "sorry, we know you won, but really, you suck, so go play in Dayton" Too often, the bubble teams earned their way into the tourney far more than the play-in winners, normally middle of the road (at best) teams in their always-crappy conference that got hot for three days.
  15. I'll miss at least part of the ND/Syracuse game tomorrow due to covering a morning basketball game that should've been tonight, but I'm pretty sure we're going to lose. It's a sobering thought that I already know ND won't go anywhere of consequence this season because Mike Brey essentially plays a 6-man rotation.
  16. Ah, Valentine. He was the one that called a blocking foul on Colin Falls on a key possession against Winthrop in the 2007 tourney when ND's offense was already past halfcourt on the other end. Memories...
  17. Maybe he wasn't so big on Sanchez jumping after all.
  18. Michigan beat them at the JAC in '05-'06. Wow, I knew they beat us at the JACC but I didn't think it was that year - that same year they beat us in round 2 of the NIT.
  19. He has a decent chance of being a first-day pick this year, especially with his strong and accurate arm. Next year's QB class looks to be much better. He stands to make more money leaving now, even with his underwhelming last two games as a collegian. And of course, you never know what could happen a year from now, but right now there are a lot of teams that look to have open starting positions for 2009 and Davis has a good shot of playing early.
  20. Notre Dame hasn't lost a home game since February 2006, so I'm fairly confident Michigan didn't beat them at the Joyce in 06-07. I think the last time the two teams played in the regular season was 04-05 in Ann Arbor.
  21. man if that is true that's pretty embarrassing for meyer. a coach shouldn't completely revise his offensive game plan to get his quarterback to stick around for one more year, and to pump up that player's nfl draft stock. What if they ran an offense more like the one he ran with Chris Leak. Is that really a revision or was the Tim Tebow offense a revision from the one he ran when he got to Florida. Meyers has proven to be pretty flexible with his offense. I think this is a strength more than weakness. Well they won the NC with what they ran this year so I wouldn't change anything. And I can't see Meyer leaving for Notre Dame. At this point Florida is the better program and has more prestige. ND is his "dream job" though. I could see him leaving Florida with the desire to build Notre Dame back up to what it once was. Yeah, Meyer's a practicing Catholic, named after a pope, was a highly regarded assistant at ND under Davie before he began his climb up the head coaching ranks, and wants to be at ND. He chose Florida over ND the first time because his kids were young at the time and he wanted to be able to recruit more locally is the scuttlebutt. I want Charlie to be the guy at ND but if he proves to not be after 09 then man I really hope that report is true.
  22. Ball State QB Nate Davis enters the draft. 2nd or 3rd round pick probably, could move up if the other big names stay.
  23. Louisville can suck it. The refs were absolutely horrifyingly bad on both sides. Mike Brey needs to learn to play a damn reserve once in a while. This is going to happen at the end of every close game.
  24. Steelers. They won't allow much of a running attack and Joe Flacco ain't beating Pittsburgh by himself.
  25. Pomeroy's ratings were pretty on the money with ND. Luke and Tory Jackson were rated our two most important players, which is true, and KMac is 3rd. The only thing that's off is Ryan Ayers is listed as our 2nd least important, which I disagree with - when Ayers isn't on we tend to have trouble (St. John's). He also had us going 9-9 in the Big East, though. Which is possible but it would surprise me. Louisville at Freedom Hall in 15 minutes. Harangody had 40 points last time but ND lost. Hopefully we get the W this time.
