  1. I'm so relieved now that I know Florida football pays for the athletic program. We all know that is not true at all for other big-time programs nationwide. Playing eight home games a year is perfectly logical now.
  2. I just looked up and saw 19-14 to start the SECOND HALF of the Duke-FSU game. What?
  3. ND struggling a bit with Seton Hall and their hot shooting. Up two a couple minutes into the second half.
  4. This has little to do with anything, but I was listening to the Simmons podcast and he was talking with Ric Bucher and Marc Stein and someone brought up Kevin Durant, who Simmons loves. One of the other two guys said something along the lines of, if Durant's so good, shouldn't OKC be winning more despite his supporting cast? I believe he then mentioned MJ winning with little help his early years, and mentioned a couple names besides, one of whom was Dwyane Wade, whose team won FIFTEEN GAMES LAST SEASON. Maybe it's just residual bitterness from two Bulls/Heat playoff series, maybe I just have an irrational hatred for Wade, but it seems like he is and will be tremendously overrated historically, with people seemingly willing to brush aside his negatives.
  5. Everyone stole something from Jordan.
  6. I spent the better part of the last decade studying journalism (hence my not having a real job now), and the "it can't get any worse" libel defense is absolutely a valid one and would probably apply in this case.
  7. That should hopefully change once they get a chance to beat up on each other. But then again, they have a lot more gimmies (South Florida, DePaul) than the Big 10 has. Yeah, Rutgers (at least home games with Rutgers) and St. John's (who SHOULD be a layup for the good teams) also. That will help us a bit. Of course, we're stuck with UConn and Louisville as two-fers, though Louisville is not looking as imposing as they once did.
  8. UCLA lost to Texas. Well, I need to pay attention.
  9. I understand the spirit of the "7+ teams from the Big Ten could make the tourney" argument, but with eight Big East teams almost assuredly making it (nine are ranked right now), there are only so many at-large bids to go around. And Raisin, looks like we both want to beat each other that much more with our mutual Texas win going downhill.
  10. I knew Tulsa was a horrible matchup for us, but I thought we'd at least put some points up and lose. Oh, well.
  11. lines are made by professional gamblers who really, really know what they're doing. they also probably noticed that carolina won half of their games by 10 or more points. And Arizona can't win east of the desert. I should rephrase. Ten is high for a playoff game. If you take Carolina and give the points, you're figuring that they really can't stop our run at all (they did contain Turner last week, but it was in Arizona) and you're probably assuming at least one long TD pass from Delhomme to Smith.
  12. GMAC Bowl tonight. I picked Tulsa in the pick 'em leagues. I just don't think we can stop them. Should be quite entertaining either way though. Chirp, chirp.
  13. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-sportsbcsnotes06010609jan06,0,70284.story Florida is 12-1 when Meph enjoys himself in front of a Tebow poster before the game starts.
  14. Ten is really really high. We don't blow teams out. I think we'll win, though.
  15. Notre Dame goes 5 on 8 and wins 73-67. I could very well be way off since I was there and not seeing it on TV, but it sure seemed like Georgetown got a lot of bad calls in their favor tonight, many of them fouls against us. Harangody got his 4th foul with 15 minutes to go on a complete joke of an offensive foul call but managed to play much of the rest of the game without getting a 5th. He dominated for a couple of stretches and put up 31 and 11 against the stiffest D in the league. A win we needed to have, streak or no streak.
  16. This has been quite a game. I wouldn't have expected that when I put 34/34 points on Texas to win.
  17. Tomorrow, friend. Tomorrow.
  18. For all my jabbering about being scared of Arizona, my comforting thought is that we do one thing better than possibly anyone else does anything except for perhaps Baltimore playing defense in these playoffs...running the football. At some point, Jake Delhomme will have to win us a game if we're going to go all the way, but it won't be on this night.
  19. If NY hadn't had this week off I'd pick Philly. But their banged-up guys had the week to rest and that'll be enough.
  20. The answer is football. I found myself losing my mind at a game in 2006 when, on a 4th down play that ended up being Ball State's last chance, a flag was thrown and then picked up. I couldn't even believe how nuts I went as it was happening. Point being, that doesn't happen to me with other sports. Ever. And it happens with college football at least a few times a year.
  21. One of ND and Georgetown will be 1-2 in conference after tomorrow night. Honestly I don't see how we beat them. It may be at home where we've won 44 straight, but we haven't beaten the Hoyas since, I think, 2003. Or really come even close. They have some sort of hex on ND. Or maybe we just can't play defense, that could be it too.
  22. The Cardinals are 0-5 in road games against teams outside of the western divisions. Just an FYI. One of them was a game we should've lost, and it was Boldin's first game back from his broken-face injury. That team scares the bejeezus out of me if I think about it too much.
  23. I can't decide if I'd rather be terrified of Boldin/Fitzgerald all week or terrified of Peterson. My gut says I'd rather play Minnesota. But I'm not sure.
  24. Mark has to be one of the nicest, most genuine people that has ever suited up for the Cubs. Of all the Cubs of the last few years, including Wood (I'd be more awestruck than anything with him), Mark DeRosa is by far the one I'd have most liked to run into on a Chicago street. I'm gonna miss him. If I end up at the Cleveland series I'll wear my DeRo shirt.
  25. This is no knock on Tennessee, but SD should be begging Baltimore to win tomorrow. I think Pittsburgh would be an awful matchup for them.
