    NFL Week 17

And Carolina picks up a fumbled kickoff and takes it in for a TD! 23-3! First-round bye is within smelling distance.

    NFL Week 17

DeAngelo is over 100 yards again. He will break the single-season team record for rushing yards today. 16-3 Carolina.

    NFL Week 17

We're going to be missing both our DTs, so I'm not exactly doing cartwheels. I do NOT want to watch us play next weekend.

    NFL Week 17

The Giants wouldn't play the NFC North team unless they both made the NFC title game. The NFC North winner will be the #3 seed and the 3 seed will automatically play the 2 if they win in round 1.
  5. 2-6 now with my 29 and 28-point games (CMU and BYU) already missed. This is a Hindenburg-type bowl season so far for me.
  6. hawai'i has a God-awful secondary. i think that most high school teams could throw for at least 200 on them. No one seemed to be concerned with this when they picked against ND and made cracks that they'd lose by 30 anyway.
  7. No one watched last night? Too bad. That was a wonderful departure from what I spent the last month or so watching. It may be entirely meaningless, but so were all those bowl losses, and at least it won't get rammed down my throat every time I watch ND play anymore.
  8. Two wins now. :-D
  9. I am 1-5. What a disaster.

    NFL Week 17

Please don't gag the division away, Panthers.
  11. ND creams Savannah State 81-49. Luke with 23 and 13. I'm glad we're done with the parade of cupcakes - the next game is Big East play at DePaul on New Year's Eve (I expect the DePaul fans on here to call them a part of the parade of cupcakes, but they play us tough all the time, especially in Rosemont).
  12. Let me look at the tiebreaks. You must have the edge on us for some reason. Conference record. That's what it is. If we ended up tied, we'd be 7-5 in conference while you'd be 8-4 (we swept the AFC West, you lost to Denver). So we have to beat New Orleans or you have to miraculously lose to STL. If we lose and you win, you win the division and we're going to Arizona in round 1. On a totally unrelated note, I'm borderline suicidal. I still think the Panthers would win at the Cardinals, but in Arizona they can be pretty tough. We beat Arizona this year at home and last year on the road, but we should've lost both games. We can take them, and then the next week would be @NYG, which we probably will have to do to make it to Tampa anyway. I really want that bye, though. We haven't had one since 1996, and it'd be nice to have a stress-free round 1 weekend.

  15. The bad news is due to Atlanta's win Carolina did not clinch the division. The good news is that with Atlanta's win, Carolina gets the #2 seed even if they lose tonight, if they win the division next week. GO PANTHERS!!!
  16. I know who's not in front - me. 28 points on BYU. 13 on Fresno. 11 on Navy. I always suck in bowl picks, but I've never been almost completely sunk after one day before.
  17. He did a Ball State game last year. I have no idea how that happened. The two teams shot like 80 combined free throws. Notre Dame beat another nobody tonight. They'll beat another nobody on Monday. I look forward to actually playing real teams again. Stupid Texas losing.
  18. I don't think McHale's selling KG for 5 cents on the dollar, if that, was a 'failure' at all. If you ask me (and there's some evidence of it), he passed up better offers to send him to Boston to help the Celts. Ironic since Celts fans spent half last season whining about how unfair the Pau Gasol trade was.
  19. Favre will as well - which may be deserved. The Jets sucked last year and Favre has come in and now they're decent. oh come on. I question whether he should get it or not. The additions of guys like Kris Jenkins and Calvin Pace (I think they got him this past offseason) definitely helped, but would the Jets be where they are now with Kellen Clemens or Chad Pennington? They weren't last year with those two, so I doubt it. Considering Pennington has been better than Favre this year, I imagine they would be. Of course, you can't just play the stat game with what-ifs because of the other factors, but on paper, the Jets would be better off with Pennington.
  20. The only person I'd definitely put right with him is Adrian Peterson. Michael Turner deserves a mention too.
  21. It would probably require some major Cardinal pixie shenanigans to keep us from winning the division, but I doubt we really clobber everyone. Probably 90 wins or thereabouts.
  22. It's kinda crazy the Panthers can get the number 1 seed with a win. Are you counting on them to be crappy again next year like they always seem to do after a playoff season? Probably not, though a lot depends on what they do at QB. Delhomme's contract is up at the end of the year - they could keep him, try to get Cassel, draft someone, who knows. With "Smash and Dash" (I love the mini-controversy over who came up with that name) back and Smith just turning 30 in May, I imagine they'll be pretty good again next year. Though I'll have to admit, playing the NFC North and AFC West this year (we were 7-1 in those games) probably helped a bit.
  23. Let's see. Notre Dame went 10-2 in 2006, with lopsided losses to the schools who in my opinion are their two biggest rivals (Michigan and USC). Notre Dame went 3-9 in 2007. Now, while we got crushed by both those schools and didn't beat them, the season really would not have been much better if we traded wins in those games for wins over Duke and Stanford at the end. I liked 2006 more. So, yeah.
  24. Carolina clinches the #1 seed with a win but stands an excellent chance of falling into a division tie if they lose because they go to New Orleans in week 17 (no NFC South team has beaten another on the road) while Tampa and Atlanta play cupcakes. It's not quite the ultimate all-or-nothing game because we'll make the playoffs no matter what but it's very very important.
  25. They've also had pretty poor recruiting the last few years. I don't see them bowling until at least 2010.
