  1. The thing is, though, it's an opportunity cost. The Cubs could have gotten basically what Bregman has provided from a guy they already had for really cheap (Shaw). Outside of the money, which as noted was pretty much the same, the opportunity cost of Schwarber's ABs were the ones that would have gone to Mo Baller or the rotating rest slot the Cubs are largely using the DH for right now. Probably a shallower opportunity cost there. Maybe Bregman starts hitting like he was expected to, but if he's going to be a good-glove guy who doesn't hit like a star, the Cubs already had one of those guys at third base.
  2. Less fun is Cody Bellinger, who we gave away to make room for Tucker, sitting at 2.7
  3. In this guy's defense, baseball started like 3 weeks later than it should/could have because the owners were trying to bully the players into an absolute garbage deal to play the season, so we did get hosed a bit there
  4. For me Coomer is the tiebreaker so it's audio overlay. Pat left the booth midgame on Monday and hasn't been back, I hope he's alright
  5. I am so damn sick and tired of hearing Zach Zaidman say that every single batter hits out of a crouch
  6. Jed has told us every year how stupid it is to devote resources to the bullpen and by only doing so with utter catastrophes like Maton, Ryan Pressly and Hector Neris, he proves himself right over and over again
  7. I thought back to the 'purposely put the first 2 Cubs on' strategy in the 9th last night, but it actually did not work (albeit mostly because the Rockies kept walking people)
  8. Seiya double bounces over the wall, ensuring the Cubs will need another hit to score in this inning
  9. 102.7 mph when the wind is supposedly blowing out...caught.
  10. It was pretty obvious Cabrera didn't want to leave the game, FWIW
  11. Cabrera injury announced as a right hand cramp, which I guess is about as good news as you could ask for there
  12. The difference between his approach (and obviously his results) in his AB that tied the game last night and those we seem to see a lot from Nico, Dansby and Bregman was jarring
  13. LOL Rolison throws a wild pitch and falls on his face trying to get to the plate. Between that and the Cubs turning a PCA cycle into 2 runs (pre-rally) yesterday and PCA getting picked off after the single, we are finally approaching fun-bad territory, which is at least better than boring-bad.
  14. And now Cabrera is injured. Nick Frangella has spent more time on the field than half the damn roster this season.
  15. Good lord am I sick of our non-Ben Brown pitchers either getting hurt or lit up.
  16. This team is having unfathomably bad luck with pitching injuries this year.
  17. Vitello deserved to give up a HR for the dumb ass decision to leave Webb in there, but if this team didn't have bad luck they'd have no luck
  18. This is the cheapest inning I've seen in quite a while
  19. We'll never know, of course, and I'm sure it's not so simplistic, but when he went and got Counsell, it sure seemed by the other moves that were made (and not made) that year that he thought taking Milwaukee's manager was just going to magically make us, and not them, the team getting the most out of every last nook and cranny of the roster. So much for that.
  20. I don't wish injury on people but it's really annoying that we can't have a decent pitcher stay healthy for more than a week and this guy can just throw 102 50 times a game and is just hunky dory
  21. $175 goddamn million to watch a guy pop up to second for 5 years. At least Heyward was fast.
  22. This is terrible news. I enjoyed the short lived Derrick Rose era at least 20% more because of Stacey's calls.
  23. Pete is absolutely destroying the ball and it's too bad we can't get literally anyone else going
