  1. That came out of nowhere. Weis apologized to Carroll though, and Carroll accepted it. I was reading where he told some other reporter that "Carroll kicked the crap out of me five times". Meanwhile, Stoops is out, Urban's not an option, I think Kelly would be here by now if he was going to be the guy...who IS Notre Dame going to get?
  2. Damn it, Favre tossing picks in the 3rd quarter was exactly what I didn't need. I had Warner, Boldin AND Breaston and needed probably 25 more points to win. Instead the Cards stopped passing and gave the ball to my opponent's RB, Beanie Wells.
  3. Completely unrelated, but if you're interested in buying NFL stuff for yourself or for a Christmas gift for someone, NFLShop.com has a buy one get one half-off deal going tonight only. They have a different deal every day but I imagine this is about as good as one gets. I just bought a gift for someone else and a T-shirt for myself.
  4. ESPN's Andy Staples just Tweeted that Virginia will introduce Richmond head coach Mike London as their new head man on Monday afternoon.
  5. I wouldn't have a problem with Bama being consensus #1 if they stomp Texas as they should. But if Texas somehow won in a close game and one of TCU/Boise stomps the other, I'd really hope that the latter would be voted #1.
  6. Well, here's your all-encompassing bowl thread. Should be an eventful December and January in college football as usual. 7. They drew Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl. The stupid thing is, I don't think people would mind this system nearly as much if they had just sucked it up and matched Boise/Cincy and TCU/Florida or Boise/Florida and TCU/Cincy. They still wouldn't like it, but at least the matchups would be fun. They handled this the worst way it could be handled, as usual.
  8. Hell, I love college football as much as they come and I didn't even get it until like 2 years ago. And if you do "get it," you get that Iowa might have made a BCS bowl only because it "travels well." That tells you right there the system is a crock. Though KU did make the Orange Bowl a few years ago because it was thought they would travel better than Mizzou. Which was true. :) Iowa made the BCS because the only other option wasn't viable (because they beat that other option). It's kind of an "ND 2006" situation - they were the best team available but to a lot of outside fans they don't pass the smell test. The difference is that I think Iowa will hang with GaTech while ND got obliterated by LSU.
  9. Hell, I love college football as much as they come and I didn't even get it until like 2 years ago.
  10. That's the problem with the bowl system. Sure, the games are a boon for the schools and the alums have fun going and TV money flows in, but all but one of the games are absolutely meaningless. I wasn't even really around for these days and I still miss them, if that makes any sense. I can only imagine what it would've been like to be around for the old New Year's Days.
  11. There's a selection process. The bowls rotate who has the 'first pick'. The first two picks go to the bowls who lose their contracted conference teams to the title game, then it rotates who goes next depending on the year. This year the Orange went first after the Sugar and Fiesta replaced their 'lost' teams.
  12. The BCS is contracted for a while longer, I can't remember if their ESPN deal is four years or eight. I think it's four. In any case, we're stuck with it.
  13. This IS unfair. Hell, TCU should be playing Bama. Congrats on your title because Texas won't beat you. TCU might have. Boise should be getting a shot at Florida. This is garbage.
  14. What a chicken [expletive] move by the BCS.
  15. I bet the advertisers are drooling over this one I thought Ohio/Marshall was an even better one. Two nothing teams that are nowhere near the site of the bowl. No one is going to that game. Yeah, NIU should be heading to the Pizza Bowl. They would've drawn much more than either of those two teams. NIU in Canada is intriguing. A holiday trip up there would be pretty interesting, although USF will more than likely win that game by 17-20 points. I was up there two years ago when Ball State played in the International Bowl. It's a really good time. Toronto is a great city, and they do a good job with the bowl.

  17. The bowl thread will be up after the selection show tonight on ESPN, BTW.
  18. The long-awaited MAC bowl pairings: Ohio/Marshall in Pizza Bowl Temple/UCLA in EagleBank Bowl (unless Army beats Navy, which is unlikely, in which case, Army replaces UCLA) Bowling Green/Idaho in Humanitarian Bowl Northern Illinois/USF in International Bowl Central Michigan/Troy in GMAC Bowl
  19. SMU/Nevada in Hawaii Bowl.
  20. Clemson/Kentucky in the Music City Bowl.
  21. Quinn is 16/28 for 190 yards and 2 scores today. Decent game against a good Bolts team. Cleveland has been stagnant in the run game though, and a sieve on defense, and they're losing 27-14.
  22. Tennessee/VTech in Chick-fil-A Bowl. UNC/Pitt in Meineke Car Care Bowl. Houston/Air Force in Armed Forces Bowl. Texas Tech awaits whoever the Big Ten sends to the Alamo Bowl.
  23. Maybe he's pulling an Artest and wants an employee discount at a store somewhere while he's in year 2 of his contract with Cleveland.
  24. Wins have been the #1 standard for the effectiveness of a starter since baseball began. Really? The Cubs had a pitcher last year that was 0-3 after 7 starts, which also happened to be his first ever 7 starts. They should have just kicked him to the curb because he sucked, eh? In 5 of those games, he left giving up 2 runs or less. Think about that for a minute. His ERA was very young Greg Maddux like during that entire 7 games and he didn't win a single one of those games. He ended up 12-10 with a 3.05 ERA, 10th best ERA in the National League. Joe Saunders went 16-7 this year with a 4.60 ERA, and his record was better than Zack Grienke's 16-8 with a 2.16 ERA, so by your calculations, Joe Saunders is better than Zack Grienke. Awesome! :stickman: Name 5 HOF starting pitchers who do not have winning records. Go ahead..we'll wait. http://mikeely.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/strawman2.jpg
  25. I was in the kitchen and heard Joe Buck actually get somewhat excited. I assumed some sort of nuclear explosion had occurred, but turns out the Giants just scored a touchdown.
