  1. This was the longest game thread since Opening Day.
  2. This ones about to be locked too. Check the minor league forum. Oh. I thought it was a mod snafu.
  3. So Delmon Young tossed a bat at an umpire tonight. He's in trouble, eh? (posted because both other threads were locked)
  4. Neither one of them impress me as a player who would do well as a Cub - certainly not to justify the expense. But if Hendry had to spend too much money on a FORMER Marlin, I wish he had opened the checkbook wide for Luis Castillo. I don't think the Cubs would have needed Pierre in that case (if they do now), and for the amount Hendry overpaid for Pierre and that puzzling JJ signing, getting Castillo instead would have been well worth the extra dough. The biggest problem would be how to kick Neifury to the curb - $2 mil for 2 years was one heck of an insurance policy for a Cub middle IF. JMO. I know, no way in H-E-double hockey stix the Cubs are able to trade for him... Actually, that's one deal I might consider giving the Twinkies a second shot at Prior for. You'd trade Prior for Castillo? Castillo had a much better 2005 than Pierre, with a .391 OBP and a.765 OPS, and at least the last few years sure seems like a better leadoff option than SlapNasty. That said, we already have Walker at second/first, and trading Prior for Castillo is a terrible, awful, no-good, very bad idea.
  5. Are you willing to stay there for an entire day longer for a chance to rub it in the Brewers fans' faces after we win at Wrigley? Vance, best start to the game thread of 2006 by far and you stole my political joke re: Bush.
  6. I personally find it amazing that Dusty has decided that Jacque sucking against lefties just didn't happen unless he sees it with his own eyes first. He's like the Joe Morgan of managers.
  7. The Cubs are getting better production than any of us could have realistically hoped for from Cedeno, Marshall, Walker and the bullpen.
  8. My astronomy professor probably won't, being as she's Indian. But I'll skip class anyway. Now if Angel Guzman was making his cricket debut against Pakistan, she wouldn't be there... Next time I make an inappropriate joke I'll stick with "Jim Edmonds is gay".
  9. I love the youthful exuberance. I think Murt and Cedeno will be starting for the Cubs for a long time coming and I can't wait to see it. Murt's the best pure young hitter I've personally seen break in with the Cubs.
  10. I haven't. I could tell something was different about this kid right from the start. I've never seen someone come up and just start raking like he did and he's just gotten better from there. His OBP is above .370 now, I believe. And I don't think he's come up with the Cubs trailing after the 6th and men on yet this year and not made something happen. He's a stud.
  11. Ok, this has been a weird thread, but... 1) This is a fantastic board. Yes, once in a while there's too much complaining. But as has been said before and will be said again, it's a message board and there's likely to be a lot more disagreement about a comment like "Jones sucks" than there is about "what a great 2 out hit by Murton". 2) The only person that's been banned since I've been here that one could even begin to make a case for keeping is the one that insulted Wrigley and said Miller was better, and even then, you don't do that on your first posts on a new board. 3) Yes, the posters that have been here longer probably have a longer leash. For instance there is one particular one that insulted a mod in a game thread today and probably would've been banned had he been new. But if you've built up a long track record of being a pretty good poster, of course you're going to get more chances than someone who just shows up and starts trashing people that same day. And rightfully so. 4) The best way to not get into a flame war is to not assume much if anything. If you are not certain of what someone meant by a post, ask. And if you are angry about a post, then explain why and don't use personal attacks or name calling. I'd say well over 75 percent of the flame wars on this board start when one poster goes over the top and insults another one during an argument when they simply could have explained their position better. That's all.
  12. An argument I was making before DLee went down.
  13. Past Reds hot starts seem to indicate otherwise, although I do see your point. We're exceedingly lucky to be 12-8 right now.
  14. Walk for Blanco, here comes Mabes.
  15. 4-3 - good thing because that play is so few and far between for this team.
  16. Days like this are why it sucks that the three teams ahead of us have forgotten how to lose a damn baseball game.
  17. There is approximately negative 30 percent chance that the Cubs score a run with the abomination that is Neifi leading off the 9th.
  18. Hairston is the Marlins' best player.
  19. Feel free to watch Jerry. That was our chance.
  20. I'm 19, wasn't watching in Gracie's heyday.
  21. Murt is the first and only player in the time I've watched this team that calms me down when he comes up to the plate in clutch situations.
