  1. I thought I read somewhere that they're trying to get an extra 500,000 per game out of WGN. Not sure how much leverage they'd have to try and get a new deal with CSN right now for the entire thing(my guess is extremely little), so I imagine we're stuck going this route until 2019. Which sucks.
  2. Hamilton on 2nd-ball ball ball ball ball ball ball ball ball ball.....Followed by having Phillips bunt.
  3. I thought he was suspended for PED's?
  4. If there isn't legitimate progress made at the big league level this offseason, I can 't wait to hear the Ricketts panel at the Cubs Convention.
  5. Wow! That's...aggressive We already knew Torres was going to be there, I was surprised Jimenez was initially not on the list.
  6. It doesn't make sense business-wise to throw another 70ish win on paper team out there next year, with the TV rights being renegotiated. Having good ratings and attendance will both help with that and with advertisers on ad space as well. I'm going to blindly assume Ricketts isn't an absolute [expletive], when it comes to this. And I'm going to look at the current state of the team(70ish wins and around 70 mill in payroll) and figure that keeping the payroll even close to this years 100 mill will give Theo plenty of room to make this an 80ish win type team heading into 2014. The quotes about "not multiples" and "multidimensional ways" supersede Theo's talk on Edwin's deal, as I don't suspect him to come out and just say "we're open for serious business" at any point ever.
  7. Nah, I'm confident Theo has the same definition as we do for that. There's another quote out there that makes it sound like they may trade for impact as well.
  8. AFL with Bryant, Soler, and Almora god almighty Vizcaino and Rivero are going too, to give us some interesting stuff to follow on the pitching side.
  9. So at least one is on the table, I hope. Hopefully it's because they blow their wad on Cano, one can dream Tanaka for me.
  10. Awesome recap by Sharma. Not hard to imagine that actually being his top 10 honestly. The Alex Cobb comp put on Nlackburn is cool. The dead arm thing explains his middle of the season struggles too.
  11. Jimenez scheduled for Dominican Academy in October. US debut likely in spring, according to AZPhil.
  12. Neely, just curious if you have any clue as to how arbitration works? Actually, don't bother answering, because it's obviously no. Shark is making. 2.64 mill right now and has 2 arb years left. Wood hits arb for the 1st time this offseason. The object of signing guys still in the arbitration process to long term deals is to give them security and to get the team a discount. If those two were FA, they'd get a lot more than what they can right now in their current position.
  13. "I'm not a doctor, but I do watch House"- Our glorious TE
  14. Lake IF hit followed by a Castillo HR.
  15. Look, I get that. But the farm produced Aramis, DLee, Nomar, and Harden during his time. Just didn't produce the long term internal answers on top of those moves. We've got enough currently stocked to where it'll be a major disappointment not to be able to do both. If we wind up with 2 long term positional players, a few bench/platoon guys, a SP or 2, and the majority of a pen-the system has done its job as long as its given us enough trade bait to get some impact talent to surround that with. To where it doesn't mean we're trying to add 4 long term position players and 3/5 of a rotation via FA. And we won't be in that position. Because the FO is intelligent. As long as Ricketts allows for it, it's perfectly fine adding long term pieces this offseason. Even if it doesn't result in a playoff berth in 2014.
  16. Yeah, no [expletive]. Heading into 2004, we had as good of a team as anyone and it wasn't like it was old as dirt or anything.
  17. The farm system is as strong as anyone's. with lots of guys in the lower levels that can break out as well. With another very high draft pick on the way. There are zero long term, unwanted contracts on the books. After 2014 and Soriano, no contracts whatsoever by the prior regime. There is plenty of depth and competition on the roster right now that you could see 70 wins, maybe a tad more, if they did nothing this offseason. Literally, the ONLY reason not to start adding legit, impact full type talent right now is if Ricketts can't or won't allow it. If we're a 70ish win team heading into the offseason with 30 mill or so to play with, so not to go over last years budget-We can add 10 wins to that by making one impact trade and one upper class FA signing. And the farm system would still easily be top 10, with plenty of breakthrough types to carry it much higher.
  18. Welcome! As a long term fan of the rebuild(even if it has been forced) I disagree with 2016 being the target year. I think adding CarGo and Tanaka would give us a relatively decent shot in 2014, with bounce back seasons from Castro and Rizzo. Javy could come up and contribute by the middle of the year. At worst, I think 2015 is the true target year, even if I see them improving for years upon years after that. Having a veteran bat with pop in the middle of your lineup is a good thing, helps out the younger guys as well. Not to mention you'd get him for his 29-32 seasons at a fair price. As much as we want them to, not all of our system is going to pan out and the idea is to use some as currency. We've got plenty of depth, use some of it to add a star.
  19. Obviously, there's already some talk about Girardi. Would we be happy with him?
  20. Really wish Baker had been healthy earlier. Would have made for a nice trade chip.
  21. Saw a tweet earlier that said he's just getting a day off and will be in the lineup against most righties the rest of the way.
  22. Maybe Almora, Travis Wood, and Lake? Add Vogelbach to it? Or you just think Javy has to be in the deal? I'm asking this, because (as I duck for cover) I wouldn't trade Javy unless Trout or Harper were in the deal.
  23. If you added Cargo and kept Javy and Bryant in doing it, you could go get Tanaka and be extremely competitive in 2014. Javy and Bryant should both be ready to be counted on by 2015. A 3-6 of Cargo, Bryant, Javy, and Rizzo for 2015 seems pretty damn good to me.
  24. There were rumors he's been available in the past and evidently some rumblings he may be available this offseason. With 4/63 left on his deal, I could see a package built around Almora, Lake, Vogelbach, and some pitching depth(Arrieta and Hendricks?) getting it done. Maybe swap out Vogelbach for Alcantara?
  25. Arguello at CubsDen asks if we should go after CarGo this offseason. I think it'd be possible to get him without having to give up Javy. If you do that and somehow win the Tanaka sweepstakes.....I think our window opens in 2014, without doing anything else.
