  1. Tom Loxas just said we're Girardi's preference.
  2. Isn't he the guy basically responsible for getting them their good, young talent?
  3. I think that "name" hires are a necessary evil sometimes. It helps lend credibility when approaching FA and it would signify a turn for this organization into compete mode, which I think was the plan all along. Not getting Girardi, but making bigger moves this offseason. Last year, Theo trumpeted Dale, in saying he was a guy players would be wanting to play for, possibly as a precursor to making larger moves this time around and having Dale help with that. Things may have changed with that, but if the FO wants to win some FA battles, having a well-regarded manager in tow, could help in this aspect.
  4. This is a failure of sorts, even if a manager is not necessarily all that valuable. To me, there's too much talk at this point and not enough refutal from the FO to make me think this isn't happening. My guess is they want to be sure they've got enough candidates to choose from that they like and that they feel comfortable they can land IF they lose out on Girardi, who I figure is their top choice.
  5. Nah, there's probably 40-50 HM's. plus he said Vogelbach would be low 100's.
  6. If there's an exact opposite of a meatball, Trestman defines it. Different than Lovie's original press conference. It's Emery as well. It's certainly a 180 from the Angelo/Lovie era.
  7. Lindor isn't the one that should piss people off. It's Sano at 3. He had "a few glitches" while Javy's K rate is still worrisome and could drop him from 8. Javy has as much chance sticking at SS as Sano does at 3B. Javy had the better success at the higher level and a lower K rate than Sano at that level. Sano has an excellent walk rate, but Javy improved his a ton over the season. To me, with Sickels being a Twins fan to begin with- I call homerism.
  8. Players leave anyway, at some point the lightbulb should come on and they should see that a posting system at least gives them something out of it.
  9. Sickels postseason top 75 is out. Javy at 8, Bryant at 19, Almora at 22, Soler at 27, CJ at 41, and Alcantara at 70, with Pierce as an HM.
  10. I have no clue what to expect from Javy at the outset. My honest guess though is it'll be spectacular or a struggle. Just doubt it's average. Rondon's been showing improvement for a while, including added velo- but I get your point. Same with Grimm, but he did pitch all season(not very well, but showed flashes) in the Rangers rotation before the trade. I've seen enough of Arrieta to know not to count on him, but it is easy to dream on him turning the corner. I'm not sure I'd take the under myself, although I think you've got me leaning that way.
  11. God, I hope not. But yeah, it's possible. Arrieta could throw up a 3 WAR season by himself too though. Grimm and Rondon both look like they'll contribute nicely for the pen and Javy could just as easily give us 4 WAR in half a season than a 0. At any rate, if I were a bookie, I'd set the over/under at 5.5 for that group.
  12. Loria is scum, they make money as it is, but I do buy them as cost saving, just to make more. The Astros though? Totally playing the system. 3 years in a row with the worst record in baseball? Come the [expletive] on. And I see no reason they won't make it 4 next year. It's one thing to throw competent major leaguers out there and sell off once it's apparent you aren't catching lightning in a bottle. It's another to throw a bunch of AAAA players out there, while keeping a 20 mill or under payroll. I laughed my ass off when I saw they literally got a 0.0 TV rating one day last week.
  13. I'd rather just hold a weighted lottery for a specified number of picks, including all 30 teams. After the specified picks are made, go worst to first after that.
  14. [expletive] Bud. Mainly because the new CBA sucks. On top of that, I never gave a [expletive] about steroids, neither did Selig until the players were caught under his watch. Followed by an immediate holier than thou approach. Which just came off insincere as hell.
  15. Astros with the top system in the game?

    Castro

That's why I said I'd listen. It's far from give him away time. I'd want major leaguers as the return though. If I were betting though, I still see him as our long term SS. Just not as sure as before.

He had OPS's of .711, .687, .716, and .866 the final 4 months of 2012. At this point, I'm worried.(thanks Tim) With the IF we have on the way, I'd certainly listen on Starlin now.
  18. My answer would actually be Cano. It'd give us inventory to trade from, with Alcantara and a lefty power bat to go with Rizzo, since our entire big 4 are RH.
  19. Tanaka Well yeah, but what if we don't win the posting or if system changes, he just wants to play elsewhere?
  20. So, from early reports we've got Ellsbury asking for at least 7/140, Choo 6/100+, and Cano 10/300? Preferences?
  21. I hope the Dodgers play the Braves in the playoffs and Puig spears McCann during his HR trot.
  22. Another guy right up our alley. Certainly throws hard, wonder if his height keeps him in the pen? Still, at 23, we'll definitely be after him.

  24. I'm fine either way on Sveum, I hope Bosio stays either way though.
