  1. I'm not sure what's going on with Girardi, but with him taking this long to decide on the Yanks offer, my honest guess is with the family involved, he winds up taking it. My thinking is he's the one that wants to move, but his family doesn't. Who knows though? At any rate, the only reason I care is I do see him giving validity to the Cubs, that could signify upgrading the roster more this offseason, than if he's not here.
  2. Thanks Raisin. I kind of wondered if Black was a dark horse to make the list. Geiger and Wells getting any mention at all for consideration is a pleasant surprise. Not too surprising Manuel backtracked a tad on CJ. His placement though makes me think he makes BA's top 50.
  3. I would like to think Javy is higher than Sano in the Southerm League rankings. Think it's a bit low for Pierce here and I wouldn't put Sanchez over Soler either. Wish CJ had enough innings to qualify for the list. Anything interesting in the chat?
  4. Girardi is under contract thru the end of the month. Even if he is eventually hired, the Cubs need to appease MLB by interviewing others, especially since they aren't even allowed to talk to Girardi.
  5. I would think the fact he turned it down, or withdrew at the very least WOULD be held against him. Especially as a guy without managerial experience. Which the Cubs really want this time around.
  6. Wasn't 't Sonny Gray asking for 2.5 back when we took him late? If so , maybe we should have given it to him. For him to match Verlander tonight has been awesome to watch.
  7. This surprises you? Yeah, I remembered him with more power than what he hit for, thought he stole 25+ a year, with average defense. I would have guessed he had a 15-20 career WAR. Just didn't pay nearly as close attention as a kid. Plus, where I grew up(mountains of WNC) we didn't have cable access until I was a freshman in college. So, newspaper box scores was basically all I had. Very few memories of watching these guys play, other than the one series a year we'd see them in Atlanta live.
  8. For the love of all that is holy:Shawon was a career 7.3 WAR player.
  9. Damn, this made me Fangraph a bunch of old Cubs. Keith Moreland was a sub 6 WAR guy for his career. Hell, Leon Durham was only 15. Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith combined were under 6. Girardi was 5.5, but wow, the offense WAS anemic. I had kind of remembered him as a .675ish OPS, superior glove type.
  10. Evidently in an interview a few years back, before Girardi won a WS as a manager, he said he'd give up all 3 of his WS rings with the Yanks for one with the Cubs.
  11. Brodie Van Wagenen is the negotiator in the Cano deal. He's handled nine figure deals before. This is a brand for Jay Z, who did pass all the certifications and sold his small share of the Nets, so he can enter basketball as well. He wants to do all 3 sports. He's actively recruiting Puig and Cespedes currently. It's much different than Master P. jay-Z is smart enough to surround himself with super agents, while P wasn't. He'll sit back and let his name grab some clients, let other people do the actual work and make some serious cash.
  12. He's partnered up with CAA. I'll be shocked if he's not extremely successful myself.
  13. /hires Greg Maddux And I would irrationally consider Greg a HZoF manager the second he was hired....
  14. Sarcasm? Nah. Would anyone? I figure we all would at least believe he'd be great, out of pure homerism, right? I'd convince myself at least.
  15. And according to RotoWorld, Girardi is expected to take the weekend to make his decision on the Yankees offer.
  16. Maddux, I presume? Yeah.
  17. Levine says Greg is a candidate.....doubt anyone would bitch about that.
  18. My mind immediate jumps to the 5-6 milion IFA budget we're not allowed to spend more than 250k of at one time. For one year, tho...and then possibly alternating years after that. Didn't they change the rule after this year to make the "alternating years" strategy less appealing or completely moot? Nope, they're hope is having a draft. Until that is decided, they've done nothing. If nothing is in place, I 'd suspect we spend huge again in 2015.
  19. Jesus Christ I mean, not that I care about the money if it's not coming out of payroll, but WTF. If they do this they better actually aggressively pursue winning at the MLB level this offseason. No [expletive]. Unless we're adding impact players and think we need his help to do it, I see zero value in this at all. Even then, it's sketchy at best.
  20. Of course not. I'm quite positive there are racial idiots everywhere. I'm just wondering if he cited it when leaving San Fran as well?
  21. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24001371/baker-challenged-reds-gm-if-you-want-to-fire-someone-fire-me Did the same thing happen in San Fran?
  22. It's got zero to do with A-Rod himself. If he "wins", the Yankees lose. And are stuck paying him.
  23. What is Maddon worth? Would you give up a Vogelbach to get him?
  24. The only reason I have to like Girardi is the hope it signifies bigger moves to accommodate him. David, I think you've convinced me, I'm moving from Bud to Manny at this point.
  25. I'm not. Neither side is "right" here. MLB was overly aggressive and A-Rod is a cheating scumbag. I'm not disagreeing one bit that A-Rod is a scumbag, he is. But MLB trying to run him out and make an example out of him, with helping the Yankees out of their gigantic contract, at the same time? A-Rod is the lesser of two evils to me.
