  1. Soler with a 4th inning single, now 1-3.
  2. As great as Wood's stuff was, I don't think we can look back and say he was an ace. Certainly capable of dominating a game, no doubt, but never with any consistency. His best BB/9 rate was 3.27 in a season with at least 20 starts and it was the only time he was under 4. Scherzer has been 2.88 or under the last 3 seasons. Verlander had a 4 year stretch no higher than 2.85, 3of which were 2.36 or better. He did climb to 3.09 this year, for what it's worth.
  3. 2 run ground rule double for Almora.
  4. Almora has grounded out and walked so far. Soler has grounded out and lined out.
  5. I'm pretty sure all scouts/prospect writers use what BA puts in their handbook in describing starters. A 4/5 has command of 2 major league pitches, average velo, consistent breaking ball, and a decent change. A 3 has one plus pitch, two average pitches, average command and makeup. A 2 has 2 plus pitches, average 3rd pitch, command, and makeup. The definition of a 1 is 2 plus pitches, average 3rd pitch, plus plus command, and plus makeup.
  6. It was a passing comment from Parks somewhere. He did say top 2, don 't remember where-Twitter, chat, or podcast.....
  7. Yeah, Turner's positioning has some to do with playing SS. But he's a plus fielder with 15-20 HR pop potentially that's going to steal 40 a year as well, while hitting .300. That's his upside and that's a monster.
  8. But what happens when we lose to their All-'Murican Boys and have to hear that it's all because our team is full of lazy hotheads who don't play the right way and aren't team players. Oh, we will out 'Murica them. Kris Bryant's smile is all that's needed for that menial task. But God help them if Mike Olt's ruggedness gets involved. The Cards have no shot.
  9. Well, to start with, we didn't spend $106m on major league payroll last year. If you're going to subtract what we sold off, I'm going to add in signing bonuses that were paid in full and it's going to be extremely close, so that's why I keep it at that figure. OK, then I'm going to throw in the even deeper lost revenue from no-shows that aren't reflected in just the lost ticket sales. OK, then I'm going to say we can each try this and it's futile, because neither of us know how they account for things!(it just doesn't look favorable, is my main point)
  10. Well, to start with, we didn't spend $106m on major league payroll last year. If you're going to subtract what we sold off, I'm going to add in signing bonuses that were paid in full and it's going to be extremely close, so that's why I keep it at that figure.
  11. The revenue lost this year from attendance almost directly is canceled out by the new MLB money. We'll actually come out a bit less than 4 mill to the positive. After arb raises, I've got us projected at 73 mill. We were at 106 last year. We'll save 2 mill from picking 4th versus 2nd and while we spent 10 mill on IFA this year, it'll be 3.9(or less if we trade it) in 2014. If Ricketts DOES put the money back into baseball ops- we've got anywhere from 43-49 mill to spend. More, depending on if the Arizona complex funding went over 84 million, after which the Cubs would be responsible in full. I keep trying to find ways to scrounge up a Tanaka posting fee.....But can't.
  12. Lets get Ned to trade us Puig to be our manager.
  13. Puig's deal tonight has been labeled The Fliple.
  14. Honestly, is Maddon(best out there) going to get you more than a win or two versus other competent guys? Sure, he may get you 5(pulling it out of my ass) more than Dusty, but it's not worth it to me to give up a ton for him. I mentioned somewhere that maybe I'd give up Vogelbach. But I'm not even sure I'd do that and my guess is they'd want more.
  15. Yeah, that's a very solid report as far as I'm concerned. That was written as if some still have hope for him as a starter. I'm unaware of anyone that actually thinks that though.
  16. Nah, I honestly think Javy in the majors happens sometime in June. And I can see Bryant happening by the trade deadline. I'm just confident in those two.
  17. Oh, I was saying that knowing Acta's going to have to deal with Javy not getting near that total. 200 at bats in Iowa is about the end of his minor league career, in my opinion.
  18. 1028 more for Javy.....(honestly, it IS refreshing to hear a guy talk like that though, he IS a great fit for us)
  19. Nice list Ryno. My biggest differences is having Jimenez and Torres quite a bit higher. I have Cabrera a fair amount lower as well, just don 't give him a lot of credit for his season, since it was his 4th time in the league. I currently have 5 players not in your top 40, that are in mine. I do NOT have Hannemann(41st though), Ha, Watkins(42), Brett Jackson, and Masek(44). Instead I have Armando Rivero, Marco Hernandez, Rubi Silva, Daury Torrez, and Erick Leal.
  20. Cloning. A forward thinking FO would spend the upfront money, because the actual clone will be happy to play or manage for the league minimum. Might have a few hits and misses at first. Maybe you accidentally clone Coach K to be your Loogy, Richard Dawson as your right handed platoon OFer(for God sakes, he may have been left handed!) and Sir Mixalot as your strategic, saber metric inclined manager, but I'm quite certain after spending no more than 16 billion (rough estimate, don't hold me to that) on this, we'll be able to field a perfectly undefeatable team for the league minimum, eschewing drafts and IFA's completely, as we won 't be needing them.
  21. That sounds like another awful team. That's the most likely result in just about any scenario. But the bright side is that we get another high draft choice. Dynamite drop in Monte! They don't call him the best color man in the business for nothing folks!
  22. Who should they throw a bunch of money at? LaRussa!
  23. I'm trying to be realistic. I know an actual package likely has a major leaguer or two in it as well. 2 top 50's? I'd be pretty surprised if someone gave that up myself.
  24. I really wanted a Shark extension last offseason. I'm not nearly as confident he turns into a true frontline starter at this point. Nor do I see him giving us any sort of a break on his contract. The rest of that group is either locked up or still have plenty of time to be. Maybe the actual names I threw out aren't so appealing(Giolito and Goodwin) but its still a top 50ish and a top 100ish type. That said, I'll be more specific- For me to deal Shark over the offseason, give me a top 50 and a top 100 type both that are ready for AA. (Change Giolito out for AJ Cole in that exact package), along with a guy that's comparable to Jeimer Candelario from our system and a guy that compares to Duane Underwood or Dillon Maples. If we can't find that type of return, keep him and re-assess at the deadline, if we're out of contention. If its too much that I'm asking for? Then hold onto him until someone meets the price and keep trying to extend him until its totally apparent we just can't.
  25. "If everything goes right then maybe we'll win 78 games?" Ah, you know what I mean. Keeps you close enough, Javy and Bryant come up, make an addition via trade.,,,,,And miss the playoffs by 10. Honestly though, with the variance stuff, I can see cheap additions like I mentioned keep us in contention if Rizzo and Castro come through and the pitching stays healthy.
