  1. Puff piece on Olt from Muskat. Seems he's all better now and still taking drops, I guess? http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/2013/10/17/63079390/fresh-start-for-mike-olt-gives-him-leg-up-for-cubs-third-base-job
  2. [expletive] Beast. Arizona Fall League ‏@MLBazFallLeague 1m Mesa 3B and #Cubs prospect Kris Bryant hits a two-run moonshot to left, cutting Surprise's lead in half. It is now 9-7 Sags through 4 #AFL13 Soler then hit one just as far, but foul. Then singled.
  3. [expletive] Beast.
  4. Almora is 0-3, Bryant 1-2 with a 2B, RBI, and a K and Soler is 1-2 with an RBI.
  5. Bad call robs Bryant of a HR, ruled ground rule 2B.
  6. And if he was, with what's being said about ownership, he'd be [expletive] stupid not to be bringing up what it IS being spent on. #PoorStupidTomRicketts
  7. If we trade Shark, I'd guess a big time young pitcher is part of the return. It certainly limits the market though..... Baltimore-Bundy or Gausman, plus more Boston- Webster, Rubby, Barnes, Ranaudo(2 of this group and more) Toronto- Sanchez and one of Drabek or Hutchison KC- Ventura or Zimmer and Almonte or Duffy Cleveland- Bauer and much more Oakland- Gray or Parker and more Texas- honestly don 't see them trading for another SP from us, even if they've got the pieces. Seattle- Walker(don 't see them trading him) Washington- Cole and Giolito Mets-Syndergaard and Montero(very unlikely) Phils- Biddle and much more Pirates- Taillon and more Dodgers- Lee and Urias Giants- Crick and one of Escobar, Blach, Stratton, or Blackburn and more Diamondbacks- Bradley, or one of Skaggs or Delgado and much more Rockies- Butler and much more Pads- Wisler and Kelly, plus more.
  8. I can 't see Barney bringing anything back in a trade by himself. Hell, MLBTR lists him as a non tender candidate. Seriously, if he were a FA right now, what kind of contract can you see a team giving him? That should help in figuring out his value to a good degree. As much as I want Tanaka, I honestly don't see us having the upfront money to get it done. Keeping payroll static is one thing(and I suspect that) but a 50-60 mill one time fee with our debt structure including not having a single day of showing a loss? Just don 't see it. Not from a team that had to budget Carlos Pena's one year, 10 mill deal over 3 fiscal years.
  9. is @poortomricketts really you? if so, pm me the login info and we will doubleteam this s Is this a legit Twitter handle? If so, I must follow. Yep, just found it.
  10. Marlin's claim to fame is getting the Hayden Simpson right hours before the draft when pretty much no one expected it. He's been right on several other stuff as well, I can't remember them off the top of my head though. Yeah, the speculation was(still is maybe?) that he's tight with Wilken, isn't it?
  11. According to Marlin, he says both Shark and Castro are likely on the block this offseason. I've thought Shark had a decent chance of getting dealt if he won't sign longterm. Castro? You make an argument it makes sense, I guess. Assuming you're counting on Javy and Alcantara.(not the greatest argument obviously) That said, after the down year, I seriously doubt the offers are remotely close to get the FO to move him.
  12. If we're this strapped, I agree with Kyle. Those 4 need to account for 20ish WAR and we ALSO need to get lucky in finding a 4 WAR SP as well as hope Shark/Wood/E-Jax combine for 8-10 WAR consistently as well.
  13. Have you heard of the New England area? Chicagoland is large, which means the actual number will be higher than most. But this stuff is universal. I think the New England area comes off as spoiled and miserable at the same time, tough to do, that may be a good call.
  14. I swear it seems we've got more meatballs than anyone else. I'm guessing New York tops us, but I kind of doubt anyone else does.
  15. http://m.tmz.com/#Article/2013/10/16/oklahoma-sooners-wr-alleged-serial-masturbater So, this guy may have an issue.
  16. The deal existing is $10M...how much are they going to throw at the big league team to keep from losing even as much as half of that? To me, it's the bigger picture. The WGN TV deal is implicated in my mind. I'm as big a believer in Theo as anyone here, but if I'm negotiating against the Cubs, I'm certainly basing it off recent results and not the future. Does this mean we need to produce a 95 win team next year? No. But to keep people watching, they need to be more competitive obviously. Even a .500ish team with some youth showing up and helping at some point during the season is probably enough to help with the ratings a fair amount. But if you want WGN and/or Comcast to up the ante and give out the mega deal, it's not coming from the promise of future success. It's got to be further along in the process than where it currently is. Especially if they go the route of just Comcast, where you'd want them to tear up their current agreement, which is in place thru 2019.
  17. http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-77823550/ Pressure to make the team good again and soon?
  18. Bryant 0-3, with a BB and 2K's today.
  19. http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/2013/10/15/62992920/top-prospects-eloy-jimenez-gleybar-torres-growing-learning-with-cubs
  20. Oh. I'd prefer someone who speaks Sansgrit.
  21. Lets say we're 45-55, Fans have certainly given up on the season, attendance is dropping.....How much of an effect(if any) would bringing up Javy and Bryant for the rest of the year have? Lets say they play averagish, putting up mid .700 type OPS's? Is it enough to stop the apathy and cycle back enough to make a difference in spending the following year?
  22. Yeah, I misread it. That was certainly true.
  23. Almora finished 2-4, 2 2B, and a BB. Soler 1-5.
  24. Rivero gave up two hits and a run in his inning.
  25. 2nd double of game for Almora.
