  1. You hate poor, smart people with a passion?
  2. Mine goes Pirates>A's>Indians>Rays>>>Dodgers>>Red Sox>>Tigers>>>Reds>>>Braves>>>>>>>>Cards. Grew up too close to Atlanta not to totally despise the Braves. As long as its not the Reds, Braves, or Cards, I'm perfectly fine.
  3. It'd be OK. Pretty sure Greg wanted a soft schedule, which is why he's an assistant to the GM or something like that. He's the guy I'd really want out of this equation and if he's not willing to be a pitching coach at the major league level or has philosophies too far removed from what DJ believes in, it's not a good fit anyway. Mike took himself out of the running once already and his only tie to the Cubs is his brother. Just seems like an unknown to me, which we're trying to avoid.
  4. We're losing 30 mill off our payroll from last year, after expected arb raises. I'm pessimistic as he'll about Ricketts, but there's no way he drops payroll to 75. We can flat out afford any FA out there and still lose payroll off last season.
  5. Joel Sherman's plan to contend is basically drop Granderson, get Beltran at 2/26, pray A-Rod stays off the books, add Haren, and keep everyone else that's a FA of theirs. Oh, and then go big into FA in 2015. Sorry Joel, that avenue has basically shut.
  6. I think I want Bud Black over Girardi.
  7. It's pretty easy to see why Girardi may look at us as a better situation than that mess.
  8. http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpost?blogname=chicagocubs&id=20263&city=chicago&src=desktop
  9. It was Levine, but in his Girardi article, he says the Cubs baseball ops department will be limited monetarily for another 3 years due to a covenant in the sales contract Ricketts signed with Zell. If true, what in the hell kind of contract did this dumbass sign?
  10. First site of spring training would be 25 John Cenas getting off the bus.
  11. Girardi would excite me just because it'd make me think we were going to be active in FA/trading. On the other hand, he likes having control, so he may not be such a great fit with our FO. Even if he does have a good reputation working with young players.
  12. Rondon's velocity was up, too. There wasn't any one flashy thing that happened (maybe acquiring Edwards), but the organization had a really amazing year developing young pithcing. The Johnston Effect is very real.
  13. So... It's our fault were losers but we can't play with a manager who is a loser, so he's collateral damage for our failings and/or strategy to suck. Ok. So he was probably always a placeholder. I disagree. I think they truly hired him with the intent of having him around long term. Castro and Rizzo struggling opened up a can of worms though that whatever positive attributes Dale had, couldn't overcome.
  14. McKay and Deer are home in Arizona. Bosio has a club option. Fairly certain Rowson will be gone.
  15. Yeah, with the money split into 4 pods, which aren't known until season is over-impossible to trade for future space.
  16. Ausmus I would LOVE Ausmus, if for nothing else, for all the meatballs that would be crying about Sandberg not having experience, as to why he was picked over.
  17. Eh, kind of interesting. Hope Bosio and McKsy stick around, along with whoever the dude is that worked with Castillo on his receiving.
  18. Nope, players have to be involved. No straight up buying of space. Although there are ways around it. Sending a 26 year old in A ball being a legit way, which happened this past year.
  19. I'm basing Wood off the CubsDen guys mentioning he's been looking at a 5 year extension.
  20. Rizzo, Castillo, E-Jax, and Wood are the only 4 guys I think are definitely back next year. No, I don't think Starlin is getting dealt, but I could at least envision it happening in a Stanton type megadeal. Guys like Russell, Shark, Schierholtz, and Barney? I can definitely see 1 or 2 of that group getting moved-but figure we'll be looking for major league talent back instead of more minor leaguers. Assuming payroll stays put though, I'm not sure we trade any of that group even. Realistically, I don't expect a ton of turnover this year.
  21. I expect Rodon to go 1st, Marlins to take best HS kid, White Sox to take Trea Turner and leave us with Hoffman, Beede, or whatever college pitcher takes a big step forward.
  22. Edwin Jackson is a solid mid rotation starter. Capable of a great season and a shitty one. He underperformed his peripherals by a lot this year, maybe it's the opposite next year. If he does and we're NOT contending, I could see him bringing back a solid return as his stuff is good enough that someone will still think he can be more than he is. But trade him or keep him, he's a solid pitcher, just had a bad year by the bubblegum stats.
  23. Most Marlins thing ever:They just won in 9th on a wild pitch 1-0, preserving Henderson Alvarez no-no. Who was on deck and mobbed when Stanton scored on WP.
  24. If the Giants are interested, why aren't the Cubs? Giants already have Belt. Belt already has played some in the OF and isn't considered a good defensive 1B as it is. Rizzo hasn't played OF and is damn good defensively. All I got-I wish we'd try and fit him in too.
  25. Worse record in 2012. That's... weird. You like a coin flip better, because I don't see a lot of options that make more sense.
