  1. According to Mike Feinsand of New York Daily News, Girardi said something to the effect of. "If I manage next year, it'll be with Yankees".
  2. Crisp went 20/20 this year, put up a 3.9 WAR and had a .780 OPS, I'll say the chances are zero they don't pick up his 7.5 mill option.
  3. Damn, Iglesias didn't make it. Arrested after going into hiding after a failed escape. Still in Cuba.
  4. Yeah, that's not sexy, but it could turn out well, all the same. I keep looking at the A's myself and wonder which OFer they get rid of this offseason? They've got Smith, Crisp, Cespedes, and Reddick, with Michael Choice pushing into next year. They also have Brett Anderson making 8 mill next year. Even with down years, I'd still like Cespedes or especially Reddick. Surely Anderson wouldn't cost much, he'll maybe they don't even pick his option up, for all I know. If by some miracle Anderson gets healthy, he's a frontline guy, if not you've got 5 currently that you can feel decent about. Either bat could be huge. I think it'd be a move that has minimal risk, as the price shouldn't be astronical, nor are the contracts long term killers, all while having decent shot to make a difference.
  5. There has been lots of speculation...but it's not gonna happen while Selig is still in charge. You would think that with the constant interleague now, they'll eventually get to the point where they realize it's ridiculous for one league to have such a large advantage. And they're definitely not taking it away from the AL. Yeah, theres no way that that's fair at all. Stupid purist meatballs. Double switches are the most intricate thought processes in all of sport. Nay, in all of humanity.
  6. Second half xFIP of 3.68. I love advanced stats, but he's sucked. Unlucky somewhat? Maybe a bit. But he's walking more guys and getting hit hard. Just not a fan of his season, at least to what I was thinking it could be.
  7. They've said multiple times this season that Vogelbach has worked all year on going the opposite way and sacrificed power in doing so. But it's making him an improved hitter in the process. I'm very impressed with his numbers personally and think he could have been moved quicker, if not for this. I think it'd be awesome to have a great makeup, team leadering, fat guy that mashes in the middle of our lineup, but Rizzo is the answer for us at 1B. I want a DH though, because I really want Vogelbach in a Cubs lineup. But I think he could be dealt this offseason honestly, he's easily the most expendable good prospect we have.
  8. Shark has been completely useless the entire 2nd half: no doubt in my mind he throws a gem tomorrow to finish the season on "a high note " costing us 4.
  9. That would be really, really nice. If you sort of zoom in and focus on all the "ifs" we need individually, they all seem so reasonable. If all those lives arms can turn into a good bullpen. If Samardzija and Jackson can be who they should be, and Wood doesn't regress too much. If Castro stops being heroin-injection-worthy. If Olt can win the 3b job. If Baez comes up mid-season and rakes If Rizzo takes a step forward If Castillo's season can repeat itself If we can add a major piece this offseason You just have to think about how reasonable each one is individually and not how unlikely they are taken together. Add Tanaka and CarGo, no other moves, and 90 wins doesn't seem impossible to me.
  10. I know we're scarred with Brett's K's, but I honestly expect Olt to win the 3B job next spring and play well enough that we'd be fine, without anyone else pushing him out.
  11. I don't want Ellsbury because I don't trust him to stay healthy, has nothing to do with Almora, who we can trade and I'd be fine with.
  12. The Dodgers aren't going to be involved by all accounts, so it's going to come down to the Yankees and likely the Tigers, Angels, and hopefully us(for me anyway). I'll guess he gets 8/220 with a couple of vesting options that could bring it to 10/260. And I'd be OK with that.
  13. Certainly fair. And seeing Ricketts drag on with the renovations that could be getting done, definitely is a concern.
  14. http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-77583140/
  15. Interesting about the visa issues for Encarnacion. Underwood not making the list was a bummer. No info on Skulina or Zastryzny, I asked in the chat, not much of an answer.
  16. I thought that about Epstein. Maybe all the best baseball executives and managers secretly want to be on rebuilding teams with no pressure. Different situation now and you know that. Tons of payroll flexibility just to get back to the anemic area it's already been at. Enough role players to field a 65-70 win team next year with no additions and a farm system that is definitely top 5 in the game, likely top 3, and arguably first. It may not be time to go bat [expletive] crazy financially, but it's time to make a few big moves. He'll, it even makes sense for Ricketts as they'll want some excitement built in with the TV deal being re-done. I'll go as far as to say I'll be shocked if we do NOT make at least one very big FA signing and I'll be slightly disappointed if it doesn't come with a large trade as well.
  17. For some reason, I actually think Cano will be a serious target for us. We need left handed pop long term and it'd free us up to deal Alcantara+ for a young pitcher. It's either that or get Tanaka and trade for a bat. But with 30 mill or so to spend just to keep payroll even to 2013 and enough of a supporting cast to where we don 't need to add short term types.....I really do think we'll add 2 large pieces this offseason.
  18. Nah, if they get him, I really do think its to give them more credibility with FA.
  19. So, does Bernstein have sources? He just said Cubs being very careful in pursuit, but that both sides want it to happen.

    Rizzo

    Oh sweet Moses.
  21. If we want 4, we need to get swept, because the Twins are doing their damndest to lose.
  22. Or maybe he choked because he knew he'd finish with a sub-3 ERA.
  23. By the time whichever of our youngsters are in arb or have signed early long term deals, our payroll had BETTER not be an issue. If we're not capable of carrying payrolls near, at, or possibly even over the luxury tax post renovations and new TV deal- Ricketts will be the most hated man in Chicago.
  24. Tom Loxas just said we're Girardi's preference. Who's that? Wrote for CubsDen, now on his own for ChicagoNow. Definitely has sources. Jesse Rogers tweeted some quotes from Theo today that made it sound like not to expect big things Monday. But then again, he also said Sveum's evaluation still going.
