  1. If this was directed to me, I have no clue what to think of Junior going forward. Obviously, his BABIP will normalize. The lower walk rate is forgiveable to me, since he's been pretty hot for the majority of his time in the bigs so far. The fact his K rate hasn't jumped is super encouraging and very surprising to me, at the same time. When I say I want to deal him, it's if he's a second piece in a Stanton deal or something else of that impact. I'm actually to the point where I'm OK penciling him into our Opening Day lineup next year, if he's not a key piece in a major trade.
  2. I call BS.
  3. He'll, that's what I want to happen under any circumstance. If we can spend more, then great, but if we got Tanaka and nothing else, I'm happy.
  4. i suppose i'm in the same boat as TT (above). if they're spending like $100-105m and continuing to pour money into the draft, international free agency, upgrading wrigley and other facilities, etc, i'm okay with that. but they aren't really "pouring" money into the draft and intl free agency. It may be more than most other teams are currently spending under the new system, but it isn't a huge amount that makes up for a middling payroll. Upgrading Wrigley is a completely different topic. Yeah, if you suck, you have a bigger allotment to spend. Basically everyone spends their entire draft budget. We differentiate by spending our overage as well, but the overage and penalty was around a mill total. IFA was different this year, as they added a mill to their pool and then still went 2.5ish over. So that's an extra 6 mill spent this year, but it's not something that can be done but every other year and that's if a draft doesn't screw that up. At any rate, they've spent an extra 7 mill this year but they shredded 13 mill in mid season trades. My hope is we sign a few pop up IFA's to balance those numbers completely out.
  5. He's not exactly earning a long term deal.
  6. Sounds more like a "Father" to me. I thought I nailed it with Papa.
  7. By the way, the most damning thing in that article I posted, is that there is a 175 million dollar payment due in October. Whether they pay it, or finance it seems very likely to affect our 2014 payroll to me.
  8. Unfortunately, I think it adds up perfectly. Papa Joe is only putting so much into this and is making his kids "earn" the rest. The debt structure benefits both Zell and Ricketts. The kids sold Papa that it was a solid investment and would eventually pay for itself. Thinking a new TV deal and renovation money would do it. Naively thinking the renovation money would already be in place, in all likelihood. So, for now, we're in limbo. Payroll drops because attendance is dropping and won't change until either A) the team gets good because of young guys coming through earlier than expected or B) we get added revenue from the renovations that can be put back into the on-field product. Until then, Papa Joe counts his money and hopes his kids are enjoying their cool, new toy.
  9. Oh, I agree with that. If we give up our 2nd, it 'll be for Ellsbury, Choo, or Cano.
  10. The Cubs are the most profitable team in basesball if you believe that [expletive] article. Considering the spokesperson for the Cubs didn't deny it, maybe you should believe it.
  11. My guess is Pence gets the QO as well. My hope is Tanaka, anything else is gravy. He'll, re-sign Sweeney and get Chris Young as a platoon with him. This said, I think we'll lose out on Tanaka, but get one of Ellsbury or Choo. The system is strong enough to where losing a second rounder isn't going to kill us.
  12. I'm pretty sure Castillo got a homer rained out earlier in the year.
  13. Isn't he signed through 2014? He's got a bit over 4 years of service time, so I guess he is. Cots had nothing beside his name, which confused me.
  14. We thank Murphy for his freakshow and move on, correct? Or do you give him a guaranteed one year deal(for a mill or so).
  15. I thought Brett would bounce back, so he was my biggest disappointment, with Vizcaino not pitching, a close second. Biggest surprise was Hendricks. Geiger would be my second. Willson Contreras has flown under the radar, so I guess he counts as a longshot. If not, I'll go with Corbin Hoffner.

  17. I still think there's plenty that think the FO had their choice as to which path to take.
  18. I don't see how we can even compare the two situations. One ownership group paid cash for their team and immediately landed a historic mega deal for their TV rights. The other has a debt load that's possibly the worst in baseball that hampers them even attempting to "buy" a championship. If we had the same ownership the Dodgers do, we'd have a 200+ mill payroll right now, constructed a hell of a lot better than what the Dodgers have.
  19. I'll be disappointed if all 4 of CJ/PJ/Black/Pineyro don't start in Tennessee.
  20. 5 1 0 0 2 3 line for Edwards tonight. Ho hum.
  21. He's such a big dude, it seems unfathomable that he would be such a pierre at a plate for so long. Are we supposed to be upset if he's in our Opening Day lineup next year? I've got no clue what to think about him.
  22. Positive that comes out of this is that it makes it unlikely Dodgers will be after Cano now.
  23. I just want Junior to keep this up to get his trade value up.
