  1. I'm dying watching this...
  2. Phew. As a Chicagoan, that brings up warning signs...
  3. Are you being facetious or do you really not know what a pierogi is?
  4. Anyone else excited for Dave Otto? "GETTIN' THE HEAD OUT!"
  5. I seem to remember fans in Montreal having those -- all 300 fans in Olympic Stadium would play them from time to time. It was pretty annoying on the broadcast.
  6. Those EA sports segments are pretty lame
  7. Is it bad for the USA if Mexico doesn't advance? Isn't there something about the US getting bad seedings because of CONCACAF performance at past cups?
  8. Love the new NU ones...
  9. Where?? Justin.tv and espn3 don't work at my office
  10. A guy who celebrates a Stanley Cup win by partying and hoping to score chicks doesn't equal rape monster. Seriously, that's some [expletive] crap coming out of you. Why is any white guy who has a good time a frat boy rapist? Well, I made it pretty clear that Kane stuck out in is behavior even compared to very young professional athletes, so I obviously wasn't declaring "any white guy who has a good time to be a frat boy rapist," you you go off and enjoy that insane tangent on your own. It's not my problem if you can't/won't wrap your head around obvious hyperbole. To me, there's a difference between a young athlete enjoying his fame and getting laid left and right as opposed to being such an obvious sleaze as Kane seems to revel in being coupled with the excessively stupid [expletive] he keeps showing that he loves to do with absolutely no thought to the consequences. As much as some people want to act like he's just a random 21-year-old, he's not. What is the excessively stupid [expletive] he keeps showing that he loves to do? Where are these consequences? Cameras are following him everywhere. We saw him shirtless in a limo a few months ago. He got in an altercation with a cabbie a year ago (I've been in a few of those, cabbies are scum) and now he's been drunk in a parade and laughing and smiling and dancing and talking about hoping chicks dig him. Where is the excessively stupid stuff? With all these cameras they should have caught something excessively stupid. Is he raping chicks in toilets? Is he surfing down a highway on a pickup truck? Talk about overly conservative. How am I being "overly conservative?" Where did I say that someone needs to do something about him or he should be stopped? I just think he comes across like an idiot, especially when he plays with so many other young players who somehow manage to not come across the same way. Maybe they're just lucky, or I missed it, I don't know. I'm not a hockey fan, so I don't follow these guys too closely, but nearly everything that I've picked up on with Kane paints him to be the kind of jerk off who thinks Entourage is some kind of bible and is on the fast track to Roethlisberger-ville. I have no idea why you're getting so worked up over someone thinking Kane comes across like an idiot. Why do I HAVE to like him? What's wrong with a young, rich celebrity thinking Entourage is some kind of Bible? Seems like a pretty sweet lifestyle to me. And LOL @ "Roethlisberger-ville"
  11. Agree. Besides, is it really the actual scoring that makes the game exciting? I think its the scoring chances. That's when you get to see bending free kicks, guys flying into the box for headers, keepers diving, and everything else associated with "exciting" soccer. To me, a great shot off the post is almost as exciting as a goal.
  12. That was one game. Compared to 3 of 26 teams scoring more than one goal in 13 games. True, but it was arguably the most exciting game of the year.
  13. Yeah, I can't believe the Cubs and Sox didn't even have one hit combined through 6 innings. BOR-ING.
  14. Wait, are you the one that was stuck on that asinine notion that MLS game attendance figures and NHL game attendance figures are reasonable comparisons? Also, that country across the pond was probably the absolute best matchup the US could have had in terms of bringing in interest in the states. That was me, and 4 years ago or whatever it was not a great argument. This season, though, the attendance figures are about equal, with MLS at 16,320 and the NHL around 16,900 Source: http://www.mls-daily.com/2010/04/mls-attendance-moves-past-nba-nhl.html Not that it means MLS is more popular, but the attendance figures are more even now than they were. Wow, I had no idea attendance was that good.
  15. I didn't last much past the first ten minutes, to be honest. It's not just that the scoring is low. It's that the two teams combined are averaging something like ten shots on goal per game. I think atmosphere matters. I was at a rowdy soccer bar with some friends who hadn't been into soccer before. Once we started yelling and chanting with the other fans they were sold. I think it'd be hard for a new fan to get into the sport by just watching at home -- you miss a lot of the intricacies of the game and the announcers don't highlight the small things the way they do in baseball.
  16. The most fascinating part of the NK match will be how they spin it. I read an article that said they won't show the match live in DPRK and will only show it on tape delay if they win. Since no one has internet or cell phones, it shouldn't be that hard to do...
  17. You get to go in the Cubs clubhouse -- can you at least take a better video?
  18. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-0614-aau-big-ten-expansion--20100613,0,747184.story This article talks about schools of similar academic quality (specifically the big10 and its AAU members) being able to more easily collaborate. If 11 of the 12 of your schools in your conference collaborate as a member of a prestigious organization, it's a little weird for the odd school out I'd imagine.
  19. The problem with the US News rankings is the factors they take into consideration. A big point of contention at Northwestern with the rankings is that they take into account the percentage of alumni who donate. I have no idea why. I'm inclined to believe the rankings are fairly indicative of how good a school is, but I don't think they're perfect.
  20. God I really can't stand listening to Joe Morgan
  21. So what exactly happened? (Wasn't very clear on gamecast)
  22. Things that happened in 1996: -The Bulls win 72 games and their 4th NBA title in 6 years -The Yankees win their first World Series title since the early 1980's -The Cowboys win their last Super Bowl to date, beating the Steelers -Bill Clinton defeatd Bob Dole and is reelected President of the United States -The Summer Olympics are held in Atlanta, GA -Princess Diana and Prince Charles are divorced -The OJ Simpson Trial begins -On October 27th at around 4:31 PM CST, a young umfan begins puberty Oh and also the Blackhawks won a game at what is then called the CoreStates Center, their last win in Philadelphia until TONIGHT ?
  23. i just think he's really creepy. i don't know what it is, but something about that guys face grosses me out He looks like a used car salesman who can afford expensive suits. Umm, so do 90% of NHL coaches and analysts..
