  1. Wow VT looking awful. At least make these guys work a little bit.
  2. VTech's fans look [expletive] pumped for this game!
  3. I wouldn't say never but in most years I agree. in most years everyone agrees, but there are years when LSU has two losses and plays for a championship, or utah runs the table and looks great while doing so, or boise state topples national power oklahoma. so why don't these teams deserve a shot? It's even worse because when teams like Boise try to schedule powerhouses from BCS schools in their nonconference schedules, 99% of the teams [expletive] out. And because those teams, no matter how good they are, never get a fair chance at a national title, they're automatically handicapped in recruiting. It's ridiculous. I hate the BCS so much. Well it's not exactly like that. Boise wants teams who want to schedule a true home and home with them. That doesn't make sense for any top 10-15 program. Nebraska offered a 2 (in Lincoln) for 1 (in Boise) series with them and Boise doesn't want any part of it. Yeah, and since Boise is on the outside looking in, I think they need to make the extra effort to play some of these teams. It's on them to prove they belong.
  4. Catch the damn ball
  5. He plays very physical. The guy's 6'1 (generous) and 215 and can bench 375
  6. You mean his .335 OBP and sub .800 OPS? His line is .288/.335/.463/.798 at the CF position. I'd say that's about market value for 12M a year. That line is inflated by his performance in May of this year where he went .344 .406 .700 1.106. His next best month was in April, where he managed .277 .326 .470 .796. Everything else has been with an OPS of .760 or lower and sharply declining each month. Check out his sexy second half numbers: .256 .285 .363 .648 Ooh, BABY. That Kenny always gets his man. So if you take out his only good month, he sucks? I don't get it.
  7. This. When the place is packed it's actually pretty awesome. The student section is right on the court -- you can really talk a lot of [expletive].
  8. http://skyboxonsheffield.com/ should be pretty good
  9. Not going to be in Wrigley? They opened up sales to young alumni a couple of weeks ago. It's a group of all of my closest friends and Darnell Autry is supposedly going to be there. Couldn't pass it up.
  10. I'll be on a rooftop. So pumped!
  11. What was their beef? Not that familiar with his philosophy.
  12. Cubs interviewed Eric Wedge: http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5501243
  13. I have a feeling the obnoxious private schoolers will go out of their way to let you know your school is run by the state :P I know all too well. I was out there last year. I've loved the NU-IL games over the past few years -- been a great atmosphere at both venues (at least from what I could tell from watching on TV).
  14. I thought it would be him beating up his gf..
  15. I have a feeling the obnoxious private schoolers will go out of their way to let you know your school is run by the state :P
  16. Good God. DO NOT WANT.
  17. Yeah so he could make his numbers look better obviously and hit more homers in meaningless games
  18. I don't think its fair to say that a short-term trend of more profitability means they are going to create more value for their investors in the long-run. With the support from the city and fans drying up and the rather large dividends paid out to owners, one could easily call this 'looting'. The one reassuring part is the investment in player development, but they could be getting to the point where if they ever win, no one will really give enough of a damn to make it all worth it. PNC is a nice enough place to sit and watch a game even if the team sucks -- I guess longer-term when the place is outdated you'd run into problems, but otherwise their gate receipts are almost as low as they're going to get, right? They're going to get a bunch of "free" revenue from TV and MLB revenue-sharing regardless. That's part of their disincentive to spend.
  19. Will Ricketts subsidize the bomb shelters that will need to be built on sheffield ave?
  20. Tom Hicks owns a PE firm so I'm not at all surprised!
  21. I can see the frustration as a fan, especially considering some of the statements from ownership. If I were a Pirates fan, I'd be irate. However, from a business standpoint, if I were to tell you that they made more than the Angels (to the tune of 300% more), who would you say was a better-run organization? Bottom line: they create more value for their investors, and losing hasn't been much of a hindrance to achieving that goal. This is why I'm glad Ricketts has said he's not in this to make profits, but to win. A lot of people who can afford pro teams are probably so filthy rich that they're in it to breakeven and just want the thrill of owning a winning team.
  22. Pittsburgh but yeah. The final score of that game was 1-0 The Cubs were an incredibly streaky offensive team that had a crapload of power but not enough patience. If they had more patience, there's no doubt they would have hit more consistently and probably made the playoffs. Heck if the season went 170 games instead of 162 they probably make the playoffs seeing as the Cubs were due to go on an offensive surge, and Houston as a whole had to start cooling off eventually. The 2004 Cubs had so many quality hitters but their batting line was .268/.328/.458. A .328 OBP for a near 90 win team is pathetic. To compare the 2008 Cubs had a line of .278/.354/.443. Lower SLG but much much better OBP. They scored 100 more runs than 2004 roughly. And the offense was much more consistent than 2004, even though the finally memory of the 08 team will be the offense no showing in the playoffs. Whoops. I remember us losing to a lot of bad NL Central teams that year down the stretch...
  23. Let's also not forget Sammy's ridiculous diving catch in Cincy. The dude completely laid-out and made the catch of his career at a huge moment in the pennant race.
  24. One thing I hate about articles like this is the fact that most superstars are huge d-bags who think they're larger than life. However, exposés are only written about a few and they're branded as prima donnas.
  25. Yeah, it looks like their pretax margin was hovering around 10%. Not sure if that's the norm for other teams, but they clearly had room to increase payroll.
