  1. Can't they sign and trade him to someone? Or am I wrong.
  2. After knowing about Marquis, Suppan sure would look very nice if the Marquis deal somehow didn't get done. Z Lilly Suppan Hill Miller/Prior I know it probably won't happen but it looks alot better than Marquis in there (though I don't really mind the Marquis deal as much as other people, since I have faith he could revert back to a 4.50 ERA guy, which wouldn't be bad for a 4 or 5 and would probably get 11-12 million on this market).
  3. This is a little OT, but with all the overpaying we've done on pitching, I found this snippet from the tribune interesting:
  4. I doubt those numbers are anything to worry about, if you click their source this is all that mentions Marquis in the article: Seems like their numbers are just speculation (which is stupid).
  5. I'd take him. It makes our lineup very right handed, but he has got some potential to be a very good ball player.
  6. I've read that Offman (or someone who came on right after) also said the Cubs were pursuing Baldelli and might have made an offer already. Did you here this?
  7. My thoughts exactly. It has the potential. Lilly in the 4 spot= very good. At #2=Blah.
  8. take it for what its worth...its from a mariners blog i found...dunno the reliability but thought id pass it along if no one else has http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/ Oh Snap. I will reserve judgement until I see the numbers of the deal. 9 mill a year sounds about right in this market, though theres a good chance we probably went 10 or so. Yesterday Scout.com was reporting that Meche had higher offers from other teams than the Cubs, but his heart was set on signing with Chicago. As long as it's not a ginormous contract, I'll take Meche since he has that intriguing potential to be better than what his numbers say he is.
  9. I'll say this, we could definately do alot worse than Suppan. Sure he will be overpayed, but just like every other single player on the market. People are saying ugh....but he did put up a better ERA than Lilly and Meche, and is still only 31.
  10. Latest from the scout.com meetings updates: And also the Yankees are all but out of the Meche/Lilly "Sweepstakes". and... I asked about Schmidt but I don't know how much info there will be since it's probably alot of Blue Jay related info being passed along.
  11. Confirmation from the article earlier this week.
  12. This is from the scout.com Bluejays site which has updates pretty often (you have to be a member to read though). Nothing huge but any news is news. They mentioned Meche could decide by tonight. No clue who the people are or if reliable but I think they are in Orl.
  13. I don't really buy him overrated on this board. I still find it very amusing when people say Z,Jennings,Hill,Lilly,Miller/Prior wouldn't be a very good rotation(edit most people actually said it would be an "okay" rotation), but are quick to say Z, Schmidt, Hill, Lilly, Miller/Prior is a very good/great rotation. I'd take Schmidt over Jennings of course, but IMO the difference between the production of the two next year will be alot less then what some think.
  14. Says the guy with a pic of Bartolo Colon in his sig.... :?
  15. Jennings is overrated on this board. He is not that good of a pitcher in my book. You could probably get the same production out of Jason Marquis. Marquis is very similiar to Jennings in his style of pitching. 28 year old sinkerballer pitching in Coors with a 3.7 ERA last year. I think he's a legit 3 with a good chance of becoming a #2.
  16. Didn't really think this out that much but I wonder if Church could be used in a three way to get Jennings since Colorado wants a young CF.
  17. Something to take note is that in Rosenthals column from a little earlier today, he said the Yankees will meet with Lilly's agent, so there is still interest from there.
  18. While #1 is obviously most preferable, the 2nd rotation still isn't that bad, although I might be in the minority on that. Both are good enough improvements off of are previous staff for me. Having Lilly and Jennings/Westbrook (in the second staff) is alot better than Marmol and Mateo. Also, I'm not sure why Prior/Miller are penciled in as the number 3 starter and the number 2 starter. Let's just keep them at 5.
  19. I still don't think it's that bad. Your trading Jones for a pitcher we could desperately need. No, Jennings isn't the greatest in the world, but we could do alot worse than trading Jones, who just doesn't seem to fit in Wrigley, for a 28 year old that put up a 3.78 ERA last year.
