How is he different than the last couple of HS kids we drafted in the 1st round? *sigh* I really hope not. he supposedly has a polished approach at the plate. Anyway, if you don't pick him, who do you go with? I'd prefer Vitters over Brackman. Ditto. Vitters is good.
Price vs. Tenn 8 IP, 1 ER, 5 hits, 14 K's, 0 BB Wieters 2/3 today with a single, double, SO, and BB in a low scoring game, so i'm assuming he was up against good pitching. His stats are really getting up there again.
My new top 3 are now 1. Price 2. Wieters 3. Beavan And yes, I know that's a highschooler, but if Price and Weiters are gone i'll take my chances with the kid who has nasty stuff over my previous favorite, Brackman. Also, I remember someone here saying that they thought Beavan would have arm problems in the future due to delivery: 1.) Where'd you get his pitching clips? 2.) I've also read that the way he gets rid of the ball (more of a 3/4ths delivery) is likely to make him less of an injury risk, so i'm a little confused.
Here's a great recent article on the draft: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/2007/columnists/allansimpson/weeklycolumn/week9_4607.aspx Some tidbits: Even more at link.
Update from about a week ago on brewerfan.net: Another guy who interests me in Beaven from Texas (HS). It seems like most of the prep pitchers have solid fastballs and need to work on their secondary pitches, and while i'm sure Beaven does as well, he already has a pretty devastating slider to go along with a mid 90's heater.
If this newly revamped offense can return to Wrigley with a 4-2 record after a 6 game road trip I don't think the Astros would have a prayer. Opening day at Wrigley is going 2 be very exciting. It will definately be rockin'. It feels like we have standing ovations everytime sometihng good happens at Miller Park, so it's almost scary to think how loud Wrigley will be.
Last season they had Derosa change his swing to become alot more like Chris Young's (read it somewhere in the offseason). So ever since then, knowing there was a change in his swing that differred from previous years, i've been kind of cautiously optimistic that last year wasn't just a typical career year but one that he could sustain in the future.
Cubs and Bulls on, while I continue to urge the Knicks to lose on league pass. Going to be a busy night, but i'll definately watch mostly Cubs than the aforementioned.
Anyone else start laughing out loud when Hawk said Aardsma reminded him of Dennis Eckersley, only Eckersley usually pitched one inning and Aardsma can go for 1+? And same old JoBo, making every damn pitch interesting.
I'm hoping for the Don (Veal) to have another breakthrough year and continue his domination so we won't have to worry about getting a true #2 in the future. And the Sox sucking :D
Well, many of us are trying to kill some time before tommorrow is finally here, so we can always spend it rooting against the Cards. Just think, a Cards loss tonight and a Cubs win tommorrow means we are sitting on top of the division :D Too lazy to do lineups and crap, but the game is at 8:10 (7:10 our time) on ESPN2.
Youtube "Michael Burgess" if you want to see a nice low quality clip of an AB (behind home plate) against a very good pitcher (93 mph plus) where he gets an oppo single.
