  1. i hated none of these players. but dusty, yeah. where's neifi?
  2. it was against the giants. 2 R in 5 IP might be more of a negative than a positive, considering the 2 runs they'll be scoring per game all year.
  3. amii stewart - knock on wood
  4. bynum's the front-runner for the SS job, from what i've read. pagan likewise for the LF job in NY.
  5. so wait, Jose's wife is the tranny type?
  6. call your team "this leagues full of idiots"
  7. would Shane Victorino be well served to be traded and taken out of Citizen Bank, where he's performed much better over his career? road-away splits are fluky when extreme park factors aren't in play (pre-humidor Coors). the Petco dimensions don't generally punish RH pull hitters, it's CF and RF that are especially spacious. wrigley's more friendly to RH pull hitters? WF: Distances from plate: Left field - 355 feet Left-center - 368 feet Center field - 400 feet PP: Dimensions: Left-Field Line: 336 feet Left Field: 357 feet Center Field: 396 feet last years petco with wrigley overlay. looks like he'd have had 2 more HRs for sure and possibly another 1 or 2 playing in wrigley for the home games if those found their way into the basket. but he's also playing different teams for 72 of the road games. i'm just not sold. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e382/harryddunn/khalilinwrigley.jpg?t=1206411381
  8. last year in his best season, he was something like 16th among shortstops in WARP. and he was -3 defender whereas Theriot was +1. and i'm considerably skeptical he'll keep hitting 27 HRs rather than his usual 15. im not saying i completely agree with the methodology used to determine these numbers, but those are the only arguments people accept on this board, so i included them for reference. pie's a question mark, but khalil's road numbers translating perfectly is a certainty? im going to have to disagree.
  9. the consensus on the board all winter was to trade him for mediocre SS who's coming on FA soon. for as much complaining is done about the Soriano contract, wouldn't it stay consistent with their rationale that the bad contract for Soriano necessitates contribution from minimum salary players for the next several seasons? this is where felix, soto, e-patt and theriot/cedeno come in. there are probably few players more important than pie for assuring our window of opportunity isn't closing in a couple years. this is, unless we get a big spender owner.
  10. i could live with a 952 OPS from him this year
  11. Is this the same Steve Kline, who once wish that Mark Prior took a line drive off the head, and that he could no longer pitch in the majors? I mean no longer be a fan or Prior, but I'll never forgive Kline for wishing bodily harm on a fellow player. well you could make an argument the franchise would have been in much better shape the past couple years if this had happened. just sayin.
  12. get rid of willits for milledge. this instant. he'll probably even outsteal reggie.
  13. well he showed better plate discipline last year than alex gordon, chris young, lastings milledge, ryan braun, saltalamacchia, pence, crawford, kemp, soriano, khalil greene, phillips, delmon young, and kendrick, to name a few, and nobody seems to have similar trepidations that those players will have quality seasons this year and productive careers. maybe if he lucks into a .417 babip this season like kemp last year we'll all think he's a fantastic player.
  14. Bailey should be there for awhile, and it's not because of Dusty.
  15. In no way does Theriot have "very good range" if you'll read for another 4 words you might notice i qualified my statement. i guess i'll try to make allowances for this in the future and use as few words as possible to make it easier for people.
  16. chalk it up to the dodgers history of being able to develop hitters, and the cubs' inability to do so. oh, i was hoping for a better answer
  17. http://www.hotstovenewyork.com/images/gomez.jpg
  18. People are letting Theriot's struggles at the plate plague their opinion of his defense. He has very good range (made just above average by playing in a step or two) and is sure-handed, albeit he's not going to make any plays deep in the hole. Lopez is just an error producer with little else going for him at SS. He doesn't even make the impossible plays like Ordonez would or Furcal to compensate for the routine grounders botched.
  19. isn't this a Cubs board? are people not watching the game that need to rely on flawed statistics to make a judgment on a player? what's the point here?
  20. whats with Turco always blowing late leads against LA?
  21. Are we basing this on what the nats did with him? An organization that thinks christian guzman is a quality SS? He might be horrible but I'll take my chances. I'd love to take a flier on Lopez, but Theriot is no doubt a better fielder.
  22. GOD dag nabbit LOU. When will the love affair with Theriot end? I, for one, am actively rooting for Theriot to totally suck from the start. It might take a while, but eventually Theriot will get moved down in the line-up and we might even be shopping for a SS at the trade deadline or (GASP) give DeRosa a chance. It's almost as if Lou is more interested in sparing Theriot's feelings than DeRosa's and that's just ridiculous. We have to just hope the front office finds out what we already know before it really hurts our team. that's strange. i'm hoping he'll be good, along with the rest of our team. i thought that was the point of the whole thing.
