  1. wow what on earth is with Furcal lasting until the 175th pick?
  2. No, that will just be the Rays being the Rays (cheap as usual and making a financial decision over a baseball decision). It really is a very similar situation. History says Dusty will send down young players so he can start vets. And in this case he did it again. History says the Rays will send down young players that are good enough to make the team so they can delay starting their arbritration / FA clock and save money long term. And in this case they are going to do it again. Fans of neither team should be surprised by the decisions because it is consistent with the track record of Dusty and the Rays. There's a distinct difference between cheapness and being financially responsible. A team like the Rays can't be throwing away that much money, unless doing so greatly increases their chances for the playoffs this year, but that remains a longshot.
  3. they must not think he'll ever regain the velocity on his fastball. another Wade Miller it seems.
  4. The forecasts are puzzling, for the large part. In the 7 year forecast for Wieters, they have him topping out at 15 HRs and a .437 slugging. Similarly, they don't have clement slugging .450 until 5 years from now. I'm curious why JR House isn't on the list, seeing what they project for him. But if the upside definition is completely divorced from the forecast, then I guess I'm making a moot point, I haven't read all of it yet.
  5. If they wait til mid-May or so it'll save them about $10m in the long run. Why are we laughing so much about this? When Longoria gets sent down that's just Maddon being Maddon too?
  6. Gallardo will have the better W-L record and pitches in the much weaker division and league, but Liriano is the better pitcher. I usually go for upside but Gallardo is probably the choice. But if you think your team is mediocre as is, then swing for the fences.
  7. the full court press makes NCAA games unwatchable
  8. your first team is steals starved and I'm not too keen on your batting average either. Beltran went under the knife for both knees and scares me worse than Pujols. there's a better 2B than the O dog on somebody's bench or FA. i'd scour the waiver wire for better #5 starter. dustin mcgowan? derek lowe? verdict: middle of the pack team the second team- oh thats so much better. you've got too much power still, trade dunn for victorino and a closer and put pennys big ass on the bench or the FA pool. i don't trust him. verdict: solid 2nd place team, first place contender if you could trade dunn for SV and say, raffy soriano
  9. it's going to be funny when they trade for Brandon Inge.
  10. it's going to be funny when they trade for Brandon Inge.
  11. Wow, if I expected those numbers I'd add them immediately in the dynasty league I'm in.
  12. yes. Rickie Weeks too. and the Brewers should be worried about Gagne.
  13. Well everything Sabean does is unfathomable, it's just that signing is atop the list right now in my mind.
  14. I know it's off the topic, but it's unfathomable that the Giants gave Rowand a huge contract when they could have had Patterson for peanuts. And when Rowand predictably reverts to his old .320s OBP self, what's the difference? Or even Rajai Davis or Fred Lewis.
  15. just as an aside, what are your expectations for Butler and Garza?
  16. in fewer than 300 AB? Kemp also had the highest BABIP in all of baseball, whereas Pie's was nearly .150 worse despite putting up the higher LD%. it's so fluky I really don't know you can draw any reasonable conclusions from their brief MLB samples. looking at their production in the minors, Pie had the better BB/K rate but a slightly lower ISO. they should probably be fairly similar hitters, all things considered. it also bears mentioning Pie is the vastly superior defender in CF and is faster.
  17. alright I'll ask it. what makes Kemp great and Pie crap?
  18. I Love Strikeouts, Hate Hits and Extra Base Hits and Do Not Mind Walks.
  19. he won't even be the worst defensive LF in the division. or the 2nd worst.
  20. Another sleeper I really like is Carlos Gomez for the Twins. I know he's fighting with Span for the starting gig in CF but I have to think they'll play him to save face in the Santana trade this year. If he hits .275 he has an outside chance to finish runner up to Reyes in all of baseball for steals. And you can get him on the waiver wire and he'll have more upside than most of the other guys you'd store on your bench.
  21. matt millen is such a good GM
  22. i have a feeling that Barry Zito and his 3 losses, 17 runs given up, 6 BB, 0 K this spring is going to try to work himself on this list before long.
  23. Bill James projected him to slug .600 this season.
  24. Michael Young said ARod was the only player he's ever played with more talented than Hamilton.
