  2. may i suggest a calculator
  3. how exactly does Petco disable a player from hitting for average? if he's content hitting flyballs into fielders gloves every home game, he's an incredibly dumb baseball player. i'd like to ask why he hasn't changed his approach at home so that he's not a quintessential detriment to his team. We're not looking at his average. Look at his production. he doesn't have the power hit HRs in petco. we all realize this. it might be a good idea perhaps to try something different at home so you're not punishing your own ballclub. there's really no reasonable excuse for hitting .227 at your home park.
  4. You aren't really going to use this year's numbers to tell if a player's good or not, are you? I thought you were better than that. you did? good point, i committed the unforgivable sin in speaking an ill word about the NSBB messiah all credibility LOST

  6. You aren't really going to use this year's numbers to tell if a player's good or not, are you? I thought you were better than that. But I guess if you want to play that game, I have a question for you. There's another SS putting up these numbers: .152/.226/.238 Do you think it would be dumb to trade for him? Well if so, you just turned down a trade for Troy Tulowitzki, wtg dude. Tulowitzki as a rookie put up superior production to anything Greene's ever done. And he's not hitting FA next year asking for 8 figures per year. Tulowitzki plays in Coors 81 times, he hit .256/.327/.393/.719 away from home. home games don't count anymore? i guess i havent been keeping up with all these rule changes. damn that bud selig. Garrett Atkins also had a .254/.327/.446 road line too, which seems to indicate this guy blows as well. until you look at his road OPS in 2006 and notice it's virtually the same as his home OPS. but Tulowitzki only has one season of data which to look at and we can all think he's an inferior player to Khalil Greene because of a split which is really often fluky. everything I've seen when watching both players suggests differently.
  7. or had a fluke good season inconsistent with his true talent

  9. only 35? hell- why not 54? or 70? 27 in Petco last year. Go from playing in Petco, Dodger Stadium, Pac Bell, etc. to Wrigley, MMP, GABP, Miller. All great parks for RH pull hitters. He already OPS' .150 higher on the road, almost all in SLG. 25-30 is very realistic, and 35 is high end. Nothing unrealistic there. 15, 15, 15, 27. which one of these doesn't belong? but maybe he figured out how to be a good hitter last year and changed his swing somehow. indications this year thus far don't really support that notion. and by the way, he had 12 at petco last year as opposed to 15 on the road. his HR power wasn't really terribly thwarted.
  10. hmmm. sign a guy at age 16. spend 7 years turning him into a terrific prospect, and after giving him 4 starts to prove himself trade him for a .222/.277/.293 guy about to hit FA next year. i think every time i feel depressed about Hendry's performance as a GM i'll read this thread and breath a sigh of relief that it could be far, far worse. only 35? hell- why not 54? or 70?
  11. the real question is whether to use your keeper league waiver claim on this guy or wait for Kershaw
  12. how does Corey Patterson have more BBs than Ks?
  13. oh please do explain Theriot has been playing poorly lately. "But he has an .870 OPS." that was not my response. i referenced his past week's statistics and it was much better than a .870 OPS for that period. i made mention of Cedeno playing concurrently, making this mostly a moot argument. i dont see where i made this reply to that point. also curious is that nobody is tearing apart Dempster and Reed Johnson. it seems as everybody has been reactionary to their hot starts in spite of indications that they'd both be far less productive players. the determination to loathe those two players must not be so strong. riding the hot hand. a very atypical thing for managers to do. but this response is different from the rest rendering it irrelevant. actual response: lou's fault. your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired.
  14. NO THERIOT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD SO FAR IF HE STINKS IN THE FUTURE LOU CAN BENCH HIM IF HE DOESNT HE WILL BE THE ONE SCREWING THE TEAM i think i'll have to type in caps when expressing this simple point as plain text just isn't translating somehow. the cast of characters on here has shown all the nuance of a brick wall.
  15. give me a break. i made reference of the notion that a player could have an empty OPS and ARod was the classic example. i was clear with my statements. if you read it and took it as an ARod-Theriot comparison, then you should try improving your reading comprehension.
  16. ok, now we're getting somewhere. this is good. the fear is that Piniella is going to make the terrible decision of playing a sub-.650 ops SS everyday when there is another clearly superior option. and that surely would be a terrible decision. but what nobody realizes apparently, is that you're all really early with the criticisms as the kid is at .870 or whatever now and has been an asset for us this season. you're jumping the gun with the bashing, and it's directed at the wrong party. i've been thrilled that both ronny and theriot have been producing, but i realize that puts me in the minority. i guess i'm the twisted type of fan that enjoys it when players are performing well.
  17. people are inferring Ryan has been detrimental with his play thus far. it is absolutely analogous. and who makes that decision? if you don't know id be glad to give hints.
  18. i was really just highlighting the asinine logic (or lack thereof) of all the bashing for any of the team's struggles towards one particular player who has played stellar baseball so far this year. the tunnel vision is strong with a significant faction of the game threaders. "870 OPS? for a SS wow that's pretty goo-...oh **** it, i hate that little guy anyways" Funny you should mention tunnel vision, because thats what you're using to look at his OPS. so with his high OPS he is still detrimental to the team? thats funny as the notion of that pertaining to A-Rod has always been mocked and derided on here. kind of a double standard.

  20. i'm guessing 90% of them were theriot's. over/under at 31
  21. Ya think? We'd be on a 9 game winning streak right now if we could hit with RISP No I think we would be on that streak had Theriot not been playing. he has killed us with his glove, lack of hitting, and stealing. Wow your right: Thursday: GIDP with the bases loaded, botches a routine DP ball that results in the go ahead run scoring GIDP? Your are right. Bloops into a double play. Way better. so he's at fault for another guys baserunning wow tough crowd He is at fault for not being a very good baseball player. "not good at baseball" awesome, an original term that adds much to the argument if our worst player has been a 870 opsing SS then i look forward to a very, very, very prosperous season.
