  1. hes clearly not
  2. this is where Millen will take a no-talent hard worker that Marinelli loves despite a 5th round grade from the rest of the teams.
  3. i find it worrisome that Weeks is hitting .176, Braun and Prince are hitting .222, Gagne is blowing save after save, they haven't had Gallardo until today and they're still 11-7.
  4. are you saying that you think Lou will bench Reed for an extended period of time based on his one missed play? if so, you don't know Lou.
  5. well we need a defensive replacement and pinch runner. and a guy to use as a decoy tricking opposing managers into a pitching change
  6. it was pretty obvious a couple years ago that they if they added a #2 SP they would had the makings of a future NL West dynasty with Upton, Young, Gonzalez(s), Drew, Quentin, Jackson, Montero, Owings, Nippert in the system. Nippert flamed out and Quentin was dealt, but it shouldn't be a surprise that they're doing extremely well right now. and it won't stop for several years. because we didn't have Gonzalez, Eveland, Greg Smith, Anderson, Carter and Cunningham. hell, we didn't even have Carlos Gonzalez.
  7. his Cub career was over a couple weeks ago
  8. defensive substitution
  9. I don't like being Fukudomeless, but...MURTON!!!! I'm really confused how Murton goes from riding the bench behind DeRosa/Cedeno (more or less), and then a last minute injury comes up and Lou bats him in front of both of them. Not complaining, but still...I figure it's got to say something about how little Lou thinks of Murton's defense? that's still less confusing than Matt Kemp sitting for Juan Pierre half of the time and hitting 3rd in the lineup the other half.
  10. dude why dont you just watch the dodgers games so you can see all your favorite players all on one team?
  11. you still need talent, something they are short on.
  12. Plus defender dude who called him that? You said he provides plus defense, hence, making him a plus defender. no i said he has provided plus defense so far meaning he has provided plus defense so far
  13. Lou thinks the same thing and expresses as much in his quotes about Theriot. It doesn't preclude you from winning a championship to have one sub-par producer in your lineup. Management considers his intangibles a strong enough asset to offset these flaws, or believes he'll improve.
  14. Less-than-half season? Check his 2005. i drew my own conclusion that the Cedeno hate occurred in 2006. stop me if i'm mischaracterizing. 2005 - LOVE HIM 2006 - severe irrational cedeno hate 2007 - severe irrational cedeno hate continues...wallops the ball in the PCL...LOVE HIM no, upon further thought i dont see anything reactionary about that
  15. You obviously haven't read too many game threads this year. My favorite: the "BE HURT THERIOT" comment(s). :-s I mean whatever people want to give Cedeno a bit of a chance too The hysterical hate for Cedeno was a lot louder than this and a hot less-than-half season of hitting in the PCL has everybody sold on him and singing his praises and praying for severe injury of the incumbent? wow, if that isnt the definition of reactionary i do not know what is.
  16. there's been a substantial amount of complaining, a polite term, about his inclusion in the lineup and his good play has not quelled that one bit. exhibit A: quotes i cited in my initial post
  17. you're kidding me. it isn't? thats what he's been thus far this season. yet the despisal of him on here is so intense that we've still got non-stop complaining about his inclusion in the lineup. i really can't relate to the loathing of a player on your team who has produced well for you thus far and given full effort. if he's back to a .672 ops again soon then the complaints may become more valid. and a .364 slg. all hail the savior.
  18. he shouldn't even be given a chance to keep it up god i hate his white ass so badly if i see him start another game for this team i am going to start bleeding out of my eye sockets
  19. .288/.354/.424 coming into the game with plus defense at the SS position. GET THAT WORTHLESS TURD OFF THE BASEBALL FIELD BEFORE HE DOES ANYMORE DAMAGE TO THE CITY OF CHICAGO AND THE ENTIRE NATION
  20. i'm pretty glad they've gotten off to such a strong start. this will surely delude LaRussa into thinking they're a contender and further delay the rebuilding process they should have started last August. there is absolutely no plausible scenario where they're still challenging for the division come July.
  21. The next 3-4 years, who would you rather have: Conor Jackson or Billy Butler? R-HR-RBI-SB-K-BA-OBP-SLG My thinking is that Jackson is closer to his prime and will be better the next two seasons, does Butler have a high enough upside to warrant choosing him over Jackson?
  22. to increase your chances of winning the game. he's more likely than not going to get you out anyways. might as well make it a productive one. thankfully your hysterical wit remedied this one
  23. they were 16 games over .500 in one-run games too? you're being intentionally dense. if you have a team with a good run differential and good execution of fundamental play, you probably have a WS contender. i can't believe this is so controversial, but the groupthink evident in this thread is that the 2nd aspect is simply BS. it's really a bizarre bias. You are being intentionally illogical. There's no evidence whatsoever that strong fundamentals equals one-run wins, but you assert it as if it is unassailable fact. If they were so good fundamentally in those games, shouldn't they have won by more than one run? Or is it non-fundamental to manufacture a run when you are already winning 4-3? unassailable fact? i had said "probably". not sure what you're referring to. situations usually dictate what to do in different situations of the game, that's a big function of the manager.
  24. romantic? i dont even like the white sox. i'm not all that big a fan of small ball. i've just argued that it can be very beneficial in certain situations. the SB% and other stats you're mentioning you get a distorted picture of the truth when looking at the totality of the production. you have to take into account there are situations where the probabilities change. meaning, i don't see much problem with the KC Royals running at will with their speedy players. the negative effect of a CS is much less pronounced than having say, a guy getting caught with Ortiz and Manny coming up to the plate. the situation for the Royals is that they don't have enough power in the lineup to make the penalty for this as severe. i don't think all outs are created equally. if you're facing Joe Nathan with bad hitters, bunts or steals are probably going to be the smartest way of trying for the tying run.
